[Bug 1953343] [NEW] SSL Session cache performance regression between 11.0.4 and 11.0.12

2021-12-06 Thread Colin Leroy-Mira
Public bug reported:

The openjdk version 11.0.11 shipped in Focal (20.04) to Hirsute (21.04)
suffers from a regression in SSL session cache, causing a rather large
performance drop on very busy applications.

This bug is reported upstream as
https://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=JDK-8259886 and has
been fixed in 11.0.12.

The regression is apparently introduced by
https://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8210985 in 11.0.5.

Would it be possible to push 11.0.12 to the Focal (and Hirsute)
repositories ?

Thanks in advance,
Colin

[Bug 1715883] [NEW] Can not drag and drop from network shares to most apps

2017-09-08 Thread Colin Leroy
Public bug reported:

Dropping a file from a network share into most applications (Claws Mail,
Chromium, Thunderbird, ...) fails silently. This is because the URIs
sent by Nautilus are GFVS URIs with various schemes (smb://, davs://,
...) and most applications doing POSIX I/O can't do anything with them.

This is easy to check by dropping a file from a network share into the
Terminal.

[Bug 1714518] Re: GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser

2017-09-07 Thread Colin Leroy
Hello,

Here is a (different) patch to fix the problem on Artful's GTK 3.22.

The difference with the previous patch for GTK 3.18 is that there is now
an "Other Locations" entry in the sidebar, which displays mounts via
GtkPlacesView. This puts them in the correct place.

[Bug 1714518] Re: GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser

2017-09-07 Thread Colin Leroy
I would also add that even though asking for GTK3 applications like
Chromium, Firefox, Thunderbird to call
gtk_file_chooser_set_local_only(FALSE) seems like an easy fix, it is
not:

when such applications then call for gtk_file_chooser_get_filename()
(and _get_filenames), they could end up with NULL for remote files that
are not fuse-mounted.

Similarly, gtk_file_chooser_get_uri() (and _get_uris) behaves
differently when local-only is set or not. With local-only set,
_get_uri() returns a native file:/// path, without it returns a normal
uri (smb:// ...)

My understanding of the "show FUSE mounts in local-only mode" is that it
helps numerous applications easily handle I/O with remote volumes
without having to use GIO everywhere.

2017-09-07 Thread Colin Leroy
Hi,

No - I think the default is to show everything accessible via POSIX
paths.

There is some code in GTK+2 that specifically verifies if volumes are
accessible via POSIX paths in local only mode, and adds them if they
are. This includes FUSE-mounted network shares.

in gtk/gtkfilechooserdefault.c: shortcuts_add_volumes() for example.

[Bug 1714518] Re: GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser

2017-09-01 Thread Colin Leroy
** Description changed:

GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser - it used to do
so in GTK+2, and the GTK+3 documentation still mentions it should do it.

In the mean time, every user of every application switching to GTK+3 --
including Chromium, at some point between 58 and 60 -- (a change which
happened in 16.04 LTS!!), loses the functionality to open or save
  directly to a network share.

- I had chosen 16.04 LTS for deploying our workstations at work, and my
- users have been suddenly unable to do a simple operation they have to do
- dozens of times a day.
+ I had chosen 16.04 LTS for deploying our workstations at work, and my 50
users have been suddenly unable to do a simple operation they have to do dozens
of times a day.
+ They now have to "buffer" these files to their local filesystem when saving
them and before uploading them, and then copy them to the company's network
shares.
+ They were already a little bit grumpy when it stopped working with Firefox,
and are now really side-eyeing me when they apply updates and find Chromium
broken.

I have reported the bug upstream and provided a patch to fix this. I
hope you'll be able and willing to include it to Ubuntu's GTK+3 package.

  Thanks in advance.

I had chosen 16.04 LTS for deploying our workstations at work, and my
users have been suddenly unable to do a simple operation they have to do
dozens of times a day.

I have reported the bug upstream and provided a patch to fix this. I
hope you'll be able and willing to include it to Ubuntu's GTK+3 package.

Thanks in advance.

Colin

[Bug 1579543] Re: Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector

2017-09-01 Thread Colin Leroy
I have given a look at that bug and made a fix - the bug is in GTK+3 (or
maybe it's done on purpose, I hope not.)

The documentation on gtk_file_chooser_set_local_only() still says

"On some systems non-native files may still be available using the
native filesystem via a userspace filesystem (FUSE)."

But the code stopped doing that.

The patch I sent to upstream
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=787128) fixes it.

[Bug 1579543] Re: Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector

2017-08-10 Thread Colin Leroy
This bug is so old (and it's an upstream bug).
At work I'm getting really tired of telling my 50 users that I can't help them
and that they should copy their files from the company's shares to a temporary
local directory before uploading them to the backoffice.
They're getting really tired of working around that, too.

Is there a chance the patch on the upstream bug (filepicker-fix.patch
v2) would be added to Ubuntu's Firefox if I test and adapt it ?

Hi Edza,

I don't know, maybe you face another bug. I would need a gdb backtrace
to know what your crash is with Raleigh. You need to install the
libgtk2.0-0-dbg package, then run the following :

$ gdb claws-mail
(gdb) break gdk_x_error
(gdb) run --sync
[...] make it crash
(gdb) backtrace full

2011-09-28 Thread Colin Leroy
Gnome bug #551339 has been marked RESOLVED FIXED in may, there is a
patch available which has been commited as
d3fcf41ef3676139b5a035757c6d67c6fef073c9 on git.gnome.org.

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/patch/?id=d3fcf41ef3676139b5a035757c6d67c6fef073c9

Attached is a debdiff that adds this patch. I've been successful copying
folders recursively using WebDAV with this patch.

It would be nice for the rest of the world if a maintainer could update
the gvfs package in Ubuntu Natty with this fix.

[Bug 531934] [NEW] thunar-volman should depend on cryptsetup

2010-03-04 Thread Colin Leroy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunar-volman

Thunar-volman 0.3.80-2ubuntu1
On a brand new Xubuntu 9.10 with xubuntu-desktop installed : plugging in an
encrypted filesystem (USB key for example) shows the passphrase prompt from
Thunar-volman. After entering the passphrase, an error dialog is displayed
stating that cryptsetup can not be found.

The thunar-volman package should depend on cryptsetup.

Hammer89, the correct solution would have been to upgrade Claws Mail
using our Intrepid PPA (deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/claws-mail/ubuntu
intrepid main), or to rebuild it if you use tarballs.

It should now be fixed, I removed the faulty libetpan11 from our PPA, so that
the official one gets used instead if you have hardy-backports enabled. Follow
this procedure:

$ sudo apt-get remove libetpan11 claws-mail
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install claws-mail

[Bug 241587] [NEW] bugfix batch for Hardy's Claws Mail

2008-06-20 Thread Colin Leroy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: claws-mail

Hello,

As for (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208230), I've prepared a new batch of
patches coming from CVS since last time.
It contains fixes since 3.3.1cvs48 (which is where we were for bug 208230)
until 3.4.0cvs99. Most of these fixes are important (crashers), a few are
convenient.

Hope this helps,
Colin

[Bug 241587] Re: bugfix batch for Hardy's Claws Mail

2008-06-20 Thread Colin Leroy
Here's a more in-depth explanation of the fixed bugs:
- bug 1553: Select an email, choose Message/Mark/Lock - it should prevent
deleting of this mail. Now select three emails including the locked one and
choose Message/Move to trash. The locked email is deleted although it shouldn't.
- bug 1589: Leaves a file describing tags applied to messages when removing a
folder. If recreating a folder with the same name, messages in it can get
phantom tags applied to them.
- bug 1599: If an email contains more than one attachment with the same name
(photo.jpg for example), dragging them one by one to the attachments part of
a Compose window will make the sent mail contain N times the same file instead
of N different files with the same name.
- bug 1602: If the user accepts to send a return receipt for a mail with an
empty subject, Claws crashes
- bug 1610: Opening the Themes page of Preferences can cause a crash when
closing the preferences window due to a dangling pointer.
- bug 1615: if using as signature file a FIFO like signify --kill
--fifo=$HOME/.signature and signify isn't started, Claws will hang
undefinitely waiting for an available read on the FIFO
- bug 1635: if switching from one account to another, and both have an
automatic signature set, the very last character before the signature delimiter
(-- ) gets eaten.
- bug 1636: IMAP NoSelect folders, which can only contain folders, have the
Properties item of their contextual menu greyed out, preventing to change a
property and apply it to subfolders.
- Debian bug 481556: Lack of verification of a gpgme function return code can
cause a crash when verifying a signature with Ambiguous name status.
- fix SIGXFSZ: Claws Mail can crash getting a SIGXFSZ signal after a long
uptime when the network protocol log file reaches the filesystem's maximum.
- IMAP fixes: There were bugs related to error handling in IMAP code, that
caused double-frees when a session got disconnected (by peer or network
problems).

[Bug 223840] Re: Claws Mail - Shortcut keys are non-functional

2008-06-04 Thread Colin Leroy
You actually plan on disabling this feature by default in all Claws Mail builds?
That will very probably be greeted by a few bug reports about how the feature
doesn't work anymore, by people who actually use it.

I don't recommend applying this patch. Closing this bug as invalid and
pointing the submitter to Preferences/Other/Enable customizable
keyboard shortcuts seems more sane.

The Steps to reproduce described above don't even work, in when
gtk-can-change-accel is set to off. Tested with Firefox, tapping on Edit and
hitting Ctrl-Z does not undo. The correct sequence is:
1. Hit Alt-E (opens the Edit menu)
2. Hit S (runs Folder search)
