2021-05-14 Thread Compiler
@kaihengfeng

How do I do this? What is the command where I use this kernel parameter?
And do I have to restart the distro after applying that command for the
new dmesg log?

A noob-friendly explanation would have been nice.

[Bug 1928198] Re: Failed to start Suspend: A start job for unit systemd-suspend.service has failed.

2021-05-13 Thread Compiler
I have 3 USB ports out of which one of the ports doesn't work anymore.
Other 2 USB port works fine through which I use external devices like pendrive
and hard disk sometimes when needed.

About the touchscreen, it works/responds fine. Is there something wrong
with my touchscreen?

I think the real culprit is, kernel trying to giving too much attention
to usb2 port and this is causing the laptop to not suspend properly.

Is there something we can do about this? @ddstreet

'caffe...@patapon.info'.

I don't have the other extensions installed as you mentioned.

Currently, at the very moment, I don't see it happening. Should I not

[Bug 1926117] [NEW] Please update the old MPV package which has Wayland fixes for Ubuntu 21.04.

2021-04-25 Thread Compiler
Public bug reported:

VLC was updated but MPV was not in this new release.

MPV v0.33.0 was a major release that contained a lot of features and
fixes that appears on GNOME Wayland.

I thought Ubuntu 21.04 release would include a new updated package but
sadly it was not the case for MPV. Now that Wayland is enabled by
default, updating the MPV package is really important.

All the changelogs are mentioned here: https://github.com/mpv-
player/mpv/releases

Out of many other fixes, these two are important for Ubuntu 21.04 users:

- X11: add an option to make the window appear on a specific workspace
- Wayland: expose Wayland-app-id as a user option

One of the annoying issues I currently face with the old v0.32.0 release
is that, the screen locked according to the display timeout setting when
trying to watch the video. This problem might have solved in the new
release, who knows.

Please update the MPV release, at least for Ubuntu 21.04. This is not even the
new fresh release of MPV. It has become "old stable".

[Bug 1906096] [NEW] Pressing Shift + 9 should give opening parentheses and Pressing Shift + 0 should give closing parentheses.

2020-11-27 Thread Compiler
Public bug reported:

That's how it should respond. That's how it respond in Windows and other
OS.

Pressing Shift + 1 gives !
Pressing Shift + 2 gives @
... and so on. Everything works fine until when we reach the 9
and 0 key.

Pressing Shift + 9, it gives 9 instead of (
and
Pressing Shift + 0, it gives 0 instead of )

This is a globally recognized "keyboard pattern". This fails if u select Nepali
Keyboard.
I don't know why. It makes things harder for us to write opening and closing
parenthesis unless we use Windows OS.

Please fix this.

2020-11-10 Thread Compiler
"For Firefox, this is a duplicate of bug 1312376. The fix/workaround is
to use environment MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 or MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 in your
/etc/environment."

Currently I'm using Firefox 82.0.2, the workaround doesn't make any differnce.
I tried putting MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 and/or MOZ_ENEABLE WAYLAND=1 in my
/etc/enviroment. But it doesn't make any differnce. I am using Wayland.

"It sounds to me like the problem is with legacy apps using Xwayland."
ans: So if developers of LibreOffice, Firefox, etc use Wayland instead of
Xwayland, this problem get solved? If that's the reason I have having this
issue, than I'm sorry for saying "Are all Wayland issue/problem ignored by
Ubuntu-devs?! And for how long?". Don't get me wrong but I usually get that
kind vibe from past bug reports.

Q. Are you using Xorg or Wayland?
ans: I am using Wayland.

Q. The bug report tag says Wayland, but you filed it under Xorg?
ans: Because typing "ubuntu-bug" in terminal will launch Apport which default
shows an option "Display(X.org)", not "Display(Wayland.org)" regradless of what
actually user is using. This create a confusion and probably select xorg
package Xorg on this website. We need to fix Apport to recognize what user is
actually using while showing its option.

Q. Please try both 'Ubuntu' and 'Ubuntu on Wayland'. You can select the session
type on the login screen just before entering your password.
ans: I have restart my laptop. Choosed pure "ubuntu" and log in. Opened Firefox
and LibreOffice, and tried to scroll. The result is same. It only select all
words.

Q. But maybe you can avoid it by using a pure Xorg session.
ans: Are all Wayland issue/problem ignored by Ubuntu-devs?! And for how long?

I don't want to try "probably not will be maintained" personl project
PPA as it says, "Purely for testing, will probably not maintain. Only
lightly tested for unintended consequences..".

But hope there will a fix from big players instead.

When problem happens, I have to select the one of the audio option and log in.
And then only I can take the log by using terminal.

Does this type log record what I have expirenced a moment ago!?

[Bug 1896333] [NEW] "Select an audio" menu when user have not even inserted headphone jack.

2020-09-19 Thread Compiler
Public bug reported:

GNOME 3.36.3 | Ubuntu 20.04.1

It has been a month and I have been experiencing this weird behavior.

Earphone option like this 3 while unlocking the laptop as if I have
inserted earphones.

Some details this issue:
I have to wait like 10 min or so after the lock of the screen. This will
trigger something and when I open the lid or touch mouse pad to unlock, I get
earphone options to chooose in the screen as if I have inserted headphone jack.

Something is wrong. I want to know why. This didn't used to happen a
month ago. I waited a month to report this issue thinking it will get
resolved in upcoming updates but sadly no changes so far. I think some
Ubuntu's GNOME update might have something to do this. This is my wild
guess. But very certain about it. Let me know.

Although the issue might seems really small issue but very annoying to
go throw this EVERYDAY.

I would love to know what is causing this? When its fixed? Is there
something wrong on my side?

Note: This happens ONLY when I try to unlock the screen after like >10
min or so.

I have to wait like 10 min or so after the lock of the screen. This will
trigger something and I will see earphone options. Or I have to close the lid
and wait like 10 min or so and open the lid and **BOOM** I will see annoying
unwanted earphone option. *I can upload a video showing this in action IF u
don't believe me.*

Some details on 2nd issue:
Why I have to press **Fn** + **Esc**? This didn't use to happen before. Neither
the 1st issue. To use the button which is used to increase/decrease/mute
volume, brightness, etc I have to unlock those key by pressing Fn + Esc.

Something is wrong. I want to know why? Is it a new Ubuntu's gnome
update? All of a sudden I have been experiencing this! It's a small
issue but very painful to go throw this EVERYDAY.

Sincerely,
Annoyed user.

Still rarely seems to happen to me, not using any virtualisation.

Also, it seems to always happen after I do sudo service gdm restart in
a tty.

2011-04-06 Thread The Compiler
@Rodrigo: Nope, didn't help. Still having the issue. To me, it seems
gdm's gnome-settings-daemon is still there after the login, and is there
for a minute or so. Because sometimes (or maybe even always, have to
check) when this issue happens, I seem to have a orange-like theme, and
after some seconds it switches to the boxy ugly theme.

If I can do anything else to help, please let me know!

Also, I'm still wondering why I can't kill gdm's gnome-settings-daemon

issue?

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-01 Thread The Compiler
Still not fixed for me either.

Latest beta, i7 640-LM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

My session is a bit special, I don't start a normal gnome. It looks like
this:

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/xsessions/compiler.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Compiler
Comment=AWN and compiz
Exec=gnome-session --session=compiler
TryExec=gnome-session
Icon=
Type=Application
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-session-2.0

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/compiler.session
[GNOME Session]
Name=Ubuntu
Required=windowmanager;panel;
Required-windowmanager=compiz
Required-panel=avant-window-navigator
DefaultApps=gnome-settings-daemon;

mb21, anything like this applies to you as well?

Also, when I'm in the session, I cannot kill the original gnome-settings-daemon
with a SIGTERM, only a SIGKILL seems to do something...
Also, for some reason, it does not happen when I use a self-baked zen kernel.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-01 Thread The Compiler
Rodrigo, for me, the sleep-workaround didn't help in any way, either
(even with sleep 5 or sleep 10). And I'm on the fast end :)

As said, for me, gdm's gnome-settings-daemon seems to actually hang
after I'm logging in. Still seems to be some kind of a race condition,
as this only happens maybe 1 in 15 times or so.

Just happened to me as well, with Ubuntu 11.04 with a custom kernel based on
the Zen kernel (2.6.37-zen).
seems randomly, hasn't happened before (well, okay, I'm using easystroke since
yesterday). For some reason, an applet in my awn-panel and Pidgin crashed as
well.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-02-02 Thread The Compiler
I also have the same problem.

Intel i7-620LM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (in the i7). So this doesn't seem to be a
NVidia issue. The sleeping workaround didn't work for me (starting a
gnome-session without a gnome-panel nor metacity, but with compiz and
avant-window-navigator). I ended up replacing gdm by kdm, which worked
perfectly.

[Bug 702701] Re: awn-settings won't launch on Natty

2011-01-29 Thread The Compiler
As a workaround until this is fixed:

- Open /usr/bin/awn-settings in a text editor, e.g.:
gksu gedit /usr/bin/awn-settings

- On line 1255, change
store = gtk.ListStore(str, gtk.gdk.Pixbuf, str)
 to
store = gtk.ListStore(str, gtk.gdk.Pixbuf, int)

Works like a charm afterwards for me.

[Bug 674791] Re: natty guest session has many panel applets crash

2010-11-26 Thread The Compiler
The same happens to me with the normal account, I think it might have
started happening after I first used the guest account. Using gnome-
panel 2.32.1 as well as compiz 0.9.2.1 with some custom settings.

After everything crashes I only see the menu (cardapio, 3rd party menu),
the clock, and a launcher. Everything else doesn't seem to run, even if
I click restart.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-09-09 Thread The Compiler
What's the * for? You don't really want to remove every file starting
with .xsession-errors, you ONLY want to remove the file .xsession-
errors. I'd suggest doing:

sh -c 'rm -f ~/.xsession-errors'

[Bug 565810] Re: packages.medibuntu.org not available

2010-04-21 Thread The Compiler
- Using mirrors won't help anything, as the main server is down, so
there are no packages updates at all anyway. So there is no point in
using a mirror at all.

- As pointed out several times before, this is NOT a forum. PLEASE move
discussions to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9150507
I'm subscribed to this bug, and it is fairly annoying to get disturbed by an
email all 10 minutes just to see someone else has posted a comment to this bug,
which doesn't really belong to this bug anyway.

Thanks.

[Bug 565810] Re: packages.medibuntu.org not available

2010-04-19 Thread The Compiler
@Ignacio Larrain, I'd add a -F to that grep (i.e. grep -vF), because
without that, . would be taken as a placeholder for any character.
Wouldn't be too important in that case, though ;). Also are you sure his
isn't a race condition or something? It looks quite dangerous as it's
reading from and writing to the same file. Maybe the safer thing to do
would be:

sed -i '/packages\.medibuntu\.org/d' /etc/hosts
