[Bug 1723835] Re: Dock - Clicking icon doesn't minimize

2018-11-01 Thread Csaba Nemethi
Dash to Dock v63 (released on Apr 02 2018) added the new click action
“minimize-or-previews”. IMHO, this is by far the most user-friendly
click action of all supported ones. Unfortunately, this didn't become
the default in Ubuntu 18.10. Currently, the file

/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/10_ubuntu-dock.gschema.override

contains the setting

click-action='previews'

(The click action 'previews' was introduced in Dash to Dock v60.)

I propose to replace the above line with

click-action='minimize-or-previews'

I am convinced that this change would satisfy the great majority of
Ubuntu users.

[Bug 1713488] [NEW] Change click-action from "cycle-windows" to "previews"

2017-08-28 Thread Csaba Nemethi
Public bug reported:

Version 60 of Dash to Dock added "previews" to the supported click-
action values. IMHO, this new value is far more user-friendly than all
the others, for the following reasons:

1. If an application has at least 2 open windows then a single left-
click enables the user to choose the window to be brought on top.

2. For users with Windows background this is much more intuitive than
the "cycle-windows" behaviour, which doesn't offer any choice.

3. The "previews" mode behaves just like Alt-Tab: The user can see
previews of all open windows of the application if there are more than
one, and thus he can choose the desired window.

Change request: Set click-action to "previews" rather than "cycle-
windows".

Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch), release 17.10.

** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1606369] Re: Compiz ‘Thumbnail Window Previews’ artefacts (further fix +)

2016-12-30 Thread Csaba Nemethi
After some more testing I came to the conclusion that proportionally
balanced shadows (as proposed by David Black) will result in improved
appearance when using a light theme (and will be OK for dark themes,
too). Also, with that fix in effect, it is sufficient to change the
value of org.compiz.profiles.mate.plugins.thumbnail.border from 12 to 15
(instead of 19) in order to completely eliminate the reported artefact.
Consequently:

Alternative solution revisited: Apply the fix proposed by David Black
AND change the value of
org.compiz.profiles.mate.plugins.thumbnail.border from 12 to 15.

[Bug 1606369] Re: Compiz ‘Thumbnail Window Previews’ artefacts (further fix +)

2016-12-29 Thread Csaba Nemethi
The solution proposed by David Black won't eliminate all artefacts
related to the thumbnail window previews. To see this, apply the
proposed solution and then just type "wish" in a MATE-Terminal. The
resulting window has a geometry of 200x200, and the corresponding
thumbnail still gives rise to the reported artefact. Same problem with
any other top-level window having a sufficiently small size.

Alternative solution: Change
org.compiz.profiles.mate.plugins.thumbnail.border from the value 12 to
19 (or higher).

With this patch, I could no longer reproduce that annoying thumbnail
artefact, regardless of whether the change proposed by David Black was
in effect or not.

BTW: IMHO, the shadow effect generated by the original offset value of 6
(for active-shadow-x-offset, active-shadow-y-offset, inactive-
shadow-x-offset and inactive-shadow-y-offset) looks better than the one
corresponding to the proposed offset value of 2). Of course, this is
just matter of taste.
