[Bug 244907] Re: Please sync lyx 1.5.5-1 from Debian(Unstable)

2008-07-05 Thread Cyrus Jones
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 228067 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067

There are already two (non-duplicate) bugs reported.

Bug 228067 is a bug with LyX that is fixed in version 1.5.5-1. As a
result of incompatibility with the latest version of Qt4 (present in
Hardy Backports and Intrepid), LyX fails to start. This bug is currently
open because the source package of LyX 1.5.5-1 in Intrepid failed to
build (apparently because of a problem with a boost dependency). Note
that LyX 1.5.5-1 is present in Intrepid as a source package, but the
binary packages failed to build (even though LyX was successfully
backported without source changes).

Bug 242648 is a backport request. This bug was fixed when LyX 1.5.5-1
(with no changes) was uploaded to Hardy Backports and binary packages
were successfully built.

I will mark this bug report as a duplicate of Bug 228067, since that bug
report is still open.

[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts

2008-07-05 Thread Cyrus Jones
The bug still exists in Intrepid as the source package of LyX 1.5.5-1 in
Intrepid failed to build (apparently because of a problem with the boost
dependency). However, a related bug, Bug #242648, was fixed since LyX
1.5.5-1 (with no changes) was uploaded to Hardy Backports and binary
packages were successfully built.

Please fix this bug in Intrepid by successfully building the source
package.

[Bug 216322] Re: SDL applications auto-leave fullscreen if set to native 1280x1024 or higher resolution and Compiz is enabled.

2008-06-27 Thread Cyrus Jones
** Summary changed:

- SDL applications auto-leave fullscreen if set to native 1280x1024 resolution
and Compiz is enabled.
+ SDL applications auto-leave fullscreen if set to native 1280x1024 or higher
resolution and Compiz is enabled.

** Description changed:

- After recent updates, a few of them are to Compiz-related packages, it seems
like SDL applications can't work probably with fullscreen mode in the native
resolution of 1280x1024.
+ After recent updates, a few of them are to Compiz-related packages, it seems
like SDL applications can't work probably with fullscreen mode in the native
resolution of 1280x1024 or higher.
What happens is that they simply switch to windowed mode. That doesn't happen
with lower resolutions if they're set from the beginning, nor when Compiz is
disabled.
Tested applications: DOSBox, EDuke32, JFShadowWarrior, my own (sort of) Snake
game.
I guess it would occur with (almost) all of the SDL applications, but tell if
someone wants a link to one of the above specific games, tell me.
DOSBox - No problem, apt-get install dosbox

[Bug 242648] Re: backport lyx 1.5.5 to hardy

2008-06-24 Thread Cyrus Jones
Actually, this should be specifically a request for 1.5.5-1, as that is
the latest Debian/Ubuntu package. Ubuntu Intrepid never had the source
package LyX 1.5.5 in the first place (LyX 1.5.5-1 was auto-synced from
Debian unstable).

Normally, since LyX 1.5.5 is a bugfix, this would not be eligible for
backporting. However, please note that the bug only occurs when hardy-
backports is enabled, therefore the fix should appear in hardy-backports
as well. There is need to fix a bug when hardy-backports is not enabled
as no bug would exist.

The LyX 1.5.5-1 source package is included in Ubuntu Intrepid, but the
build fails for all architectures. To get this bug fixed in Ubuntu, the
build of LyX in Intrepid should be fixed first (currently it fails to
build because of a problem with boost), then LyX 1.5.5-1 can be
backported to hardy.

However, I was successful when creating a package using Prevu. No source
changes were necessary. As a result, this backport request is marked as
confirmed. I have been using the Prevu-built package without problems
for over a month now.

** Summary changed:

- backport lyx 1.5.5 to hardy
+ backport lyx 1.5.5-1 to hardy

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: lyx

- We are still suffering from this bug

+ bugfix, this would not be eligible for backporting. However, please note
+ that the bug only occurs when hardy-backports is enabled, therefore the

[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts

2008-05-30 Thread Cyrus Jones
Emmanuel: To reverse the package preparation steps, you can uninstall
the Prevu package, remove the Prevu directory, and remove Prevu's apt
cache by following these steps:

1. Uninstall the Prevu package: sudo apt-get remove --purge prevu
2. Remove the Prevu directory: sudo rm -rf /var/cache/prevu
3. Remove Prevu's apt cache: sudo rm /var/cache/pbuilder/aptcache/*

Run the above commands in Terminal (Applications - Terminal).

[Bug 112259] Re: [apport] lyx-qt crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-05-29 Thread Cyrus Jones
Alex La Hurreau, the bug you are experiencing is Bug 228067, which is a
newer bug. This bug occurred starting in May 2008, as a result of LyX's
troubles with the new qt4.4 that has been uploaded to Ubuntu 8.04
(Hardy) backports. I will subscribe you to that bug. If you wish to
fix this bug as early as possible for yourself, you may wish to read all
of the bug comments on that bug report and then decide on a solution.

[Bug 235249] Re: lyx crashes when opening documentation

2008-05-27 Thread Cyrus Jones
Is hardy-backports enabled? You can check at System - Administration -
Software Sources. Under the Updates tab, is Unsupported updates
(hardy-backports) checked?

What is the output of the following command: apt-cache policy
libqt4-core

This is most likely a duplicate of Bug 228067. If hardy-backports is NOT
enabled and/or the version of libqt4-core is NOT 4.4.0-1ubuntu3~hardy1,
then this bug report is NOT a duplicate of Bug 228067. Note that with
Bug 228067, LyX will crash when opening any LyX document, including the
help files.

If you have already created a .crash file, please specify the bug
number of the new bug report.

Thank you.

[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts

2008-05-27 Thread Cyrus Jones
A lot of people have been saying to run make install, but that is not a
good solution IMHO. This would cause problems later on when the LyX
package is updated and one wishes to install that package. If LyX is not
removed via apt, conflicts will emerge. There are really only two
reasonable temporary solutions.

1) ./configure and make (no sudo make install) and run LyX from the directory
that has been created
2) build/install an updated package

Solution 2 is the better one, as it uses the excellent Ubuntu/Debian package
management in place, but it does take a bit more effort.
It is not possible to directly install the Debian unstable (Sid) binary package
for LyX without modification, because of a missing dependency:
libboost-filesystem1.34.1. The way to do this is to use an automatic
backporting utility called Prevu, which will modify the package's dependencies
for Ubuntu.

Run the following commands in Terminal (Applications-Terminal) one at a
time.

sudo -s
apt-get install prevu
prevu-init
echo deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid main /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
prevu-update
exit
prevu lyx

The last step will take a while depending on the speed of your computer
as LyX is compiled. When it is done, run Update Manager (System -
Administration - Update Manager) and update LyX.

Alternatively I can give you the LyX packages I built with Prevu, but I
have a 64-bit system and consequently have only 64-bit packages (I do
not know how to build 32-bit packages with Prevu on a 64-bit system if
that is possible).

2008-05-24 Thread Cyrus Jones
The Debian LyX maintainers strongly advise against using checkinstall
for LyX, and they state that using checkinstall for LyX could have bad
consequences. The best way it seems to fix LyX while keeping the
packaging system intact (no make install) is to use the Prevu tool I
mentioned in my comment above:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyx/+bug/228067/comments/32.

[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3.1 crashes as soon as it starts

2008-05-15 Thread Cyrus Jones
Finally, success. Using the source packages from Debian unstable (LyX
1.5.5-1), I was able to build an 8.04 package for 64-bit with Prevu, an
automated backporting utility: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Prevu

A side note, LyX 1.5.5-1 in Debian unstable was released yesterday (May
14), so it has not yet been synced with Intrepid (the previous version
of LyX failed to build in Intrepid, but 1.5.5-1 should build
successfully).

As far as I have seen, the problems have gone. I have qt4.4 from hardy
backports (it's not disabled), and no problems.

I have built 64-bit packages which I can send to anyone who wants them
(send me a private message to daradib on Ubuntu Forums). I don't know
how to build 32-bit packages using Prevu on a 64-bit system, so you can
make the package yourself by installing prevu (package in repositories),
adding deb-src line for Debian Unstable, sudo apt-get update, and
running the command prevu lyx.

You could also probably just install the Debian unstable (Sid) binary
package for LyX (without modification), but I have not tried that.

I just checked, and it is not possible to install the Debian unstable
(Sid) binary package for LyX without modification, because of a
dependency-- libboost-filesystem1.34.1. So the prevu way is the
solution, as it will modify the package's dependencies for Ubuntu.

LyX 1.5.5-1 should be synched into Intrepid and it should be officially
backported in hardy-backports. If need be, I will open new bug reports.

[Bug 220723] Re: Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-04-23 Thread Cyrus Jones
I am not sure I quite understand you. I apologize. This is a bugfix
release for the wesnoth package that is included in Ubuntu at version
1:1.4-1 (same 1.4 branch). It is not a binary-only package, a source
package is available from Debian. See
http://packages.debian.org/sid/wesnoth

According to the Wesnoth 1.4.1 release announcement, It mainly fixes
smaller problems and features a rewritten multiplayer server to improve
the servers speed while using less resources. Beside this the
multiplayer lobby was sped up, spelling mistakes were fixed and many
translations were updated.

Upstream changelog:

Version 1.4.1:
 * campaigns:
   * Fixed/enforced internal gender id of various female heroes/foes
 (bug #11197)
   * Under the Burning Suns:

[Bug 220723] Re: Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-04-23 Thread Cyrus Jones
Not uploading wesnoth-tools is a relatively simple fix, as it is not a
required dependency.

And yes, there are a number of packaging changes. But the upstream
release (not Debian) is a simple bugfix release, so it would be good if
1.4.1 could be used. Using the current debian directory is a
possibility, but not good when it comes to compatibility with Debian
(will make syncing with Debian more difficult).

If this bug won't be fixed due to these changes in packaging, I think
Won't Fix status would be a better choice for this bug report (rather
than Invalid). Otherwise, it should be marked as New if the new package
has some chance of succeeding in hardy-updates or possibly hardy-
backports (then this bug report would need to be changed).

[Bug 220723] [NEW] Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-04-22 Thread Cyrus Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wesnoth

Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Changelogs since current hardy version 1:1.4-1:

wesnoth (1:1.4.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Create postinst hooks to change the (hopefully) empty doc dirs of wesnoth,
 wesnoth-editor and wesnoth-all to symlinks to wesnoth-data.

 -- Gerfried Fuchs [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri, 18 Apr 2008 11:53:02 +0200

wesnoth (1:1.4.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release:
 - sample.py-fix made it into the 1.4 branch, removed.
 - disable-rpath patch not needed anymore, configure fixed upstream.
   * New patch: address-align-for-sparc which fixes an alignment issue which
caused a SIGBUGS on sparc (closes: #426318)
   * Update debian/copyright with respect to that wesnoth is GPLv2 or later,
 not GPLv2 only.
   * Also symlink the english manpage for wesnoth-smallgui properly.
   * Call dh_pysupport for the python parts in the wesnoth-tools package and
make it Depend on ${python:Depends}. Build-Depend on python-support.
   * Switch wesnoth-tools package to Arch: all what it actually is.
   * Only do the doc symlink in wesnoth, wesnoth-editor and wesnoth-all
packages which directly versioned depend on wesnoth-data, not from the
 campaign packages.
   * Fix a typo in wesnoth-tools package description.
   * Make the included scripts in the tools package executable.

 -- Gerfried Fuchs [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu, 17 Apr 2008 13:52:03 +0200

wesnoth (1:1.4-2) experimental; urgency=low

   * Upload to experimental due to new wesnoth-tools package which isn't
fully tested yet and may work against python policy.
   * Add wesnoth-tools package including the most useful tools for campaign
 developers.
   * Build a wesnoth-smallgui binary (closes: #469234)
   * Patch wesnoth-nolog-desktop-file for calling wesnoth-nolog instead of
wesnoth from desktop file (triggered by #469800)
   * Switch from ttf-arphic-gkai00mp (gkai00mp.ttf) to ttf-wqy-zenhei
(wqy-zenhei.ttf) package (font) which the game really uses. Thanks to
Ying-Chun Liu for noticing it (closes: #470292)
   * Made it more clear in the wesnoth-all package description where to get the
 server from.
   * Update README.Debian with informations about the (planned) setup and
server support through wesnoth.debian.net (closes: #470224)
   * Added the short description from the campaigns to the package description
of the according package (closes: #469467).
Package description translators, pretty please fetch the already translated
descriptions from the package instead of redoing them from scratch, thanks.
   * Remove ttf-dejavu dependency from editor, it's in dependent package
 wesnoth-data anyway.
   * Install documentation only into wesnoth-data package and make the
depending packages have symlinks to the doc dir.
   * Make use of the http://sf.net/$project/ hack in debian/watch instead of
chosing a mirror on our own.
   * Recommend the three introduction campaigns from the wesnoth package and
add informations about it to the package description (closes: #471912)
   * Improve other package descriptions a little, too.
   * Pull sample.py-fix patch from upstream svn r25432 (closes: #472416)
   * Pull no-campaign-fix from upstream svn r25532 (closes: #471851)
   * Add NEWS.Debian file explaining the save game incompatibility to the
 former stable release.

[Bug 177856] Re: Gutsy 64: nspluginwrapper errors with flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.115

2008-04-09 Thread Cyrus Jones
I think this bug is related to bug 212877. Just like this bug, the
people there report having 64-bit SMP (multicore/multiprocessor) systems
and it was brought by Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Beta 5. The difference,
however, is that bug 212877 relates to Mozilla Firefox crashing, not
just Flash alone.

On April 6th, I decided to test if the Firefox 3 Beta 5 update was
causing the problem. I had not upgraded to Firefox Beta 5 (didn't check
for updates), but found the update to Beta 5. I updated all other
(irrelevant) packages, except firefox, firefox-3.0, firefox-3.0-gnome-
support, and firefox-gnome-support. I then opened Firefox from the
console (to see any error messages) and proceeded to test extensively
and try to make nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash. This including
opening many Youtube videos as tabs, and refreshing random Youtube tabs.
Firefox did slow down dramatically, and it did freeze for a few
moments, but Firefox/flashplugin/nspluginwrapper did not crash. The
Youtube videos continued to play. No error messages relevant to
nspluginwrapper/flashplugin were on the console.

I then upgraded the specified packages. Once again, I opened Firefox
from the console (to see any error messages) and proceeded to test
extensively and try to make nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash.
Nearly immediately, without opening more than one or two Youtube video
tabs, the flashplugin crashed and nspluginwrapper outputed errors on the
console.

I think, unless someone knows the solution, we should narrow done what
difference in Firefox 3.0 from Beta 4 to Beta 5 caused the problem. I
think I should look at Swiftweasel as well.

[Bug 189870] Re: Youtube stopped working, after 12.1 update was installed.

2008-04-06 Thread Cyrus Jones
I apologize, I was not clear at all. Does 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2
(in gutsy-updates) fix your problem? I say this because this version was
published on 2008-02-07, and probably built later, after any references
to the existence of the bug.

If it was not fixed with that package, could you provide the output of
the Terminal, if upgraded through apt-get. Using installed version
9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12, run sudo apt-get update, and then sudo apt-
get upgrade. Paste the output as a comment/

sideshownick refers to the old version of the package. Could you please
specify? I would assume you mean 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12. If so, then
I believe this should have been fixed by 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2 as
this would be the install error when the old tar is still on the hard
disk.

[Bug 205344] Re: [Hardy] Menu bar has a color problem - selected item unreadable

2008-04-06 Thread Cyrus Jones
Ludwig: I know there is a bug filed in Launchpad for the disappearance
(or something like that) of the applications menu. Unfortunately, I
can't find it right now.

But there is an Ubuntu Forums thread at:

[Bug 104470] Re: [Feisty] Firefox crashed -- libflashplayer.so

2008-04-06 Thread Cyrus Jones
Bug 177856 refers to flash crashing, leaving a gray or (invisible) white
rectangle where the flash content (i.e. movie) should be. Firefox does
not crash in that bug. It also only exists on 64-bit SMP
(multiprocessor/multicore) systems. This bug (bug 104470) is not the
correct bug report for your issue.

Are there any specific symptoms which are different in your case?

As a side note, I myself have not yet upgraded to Firefox Beta 5, so I
will wait upgrade other packages first, and see if the problem
reappears. Thanks for the heads up.

[Bug 104470] Re: [Feisty] Firefox crashed -- libflashplayer.so

2008-04-06 Thread Cyrus Jones
Okay, good news regarding finding the problem that causes this bug. The
problem is indeed the update to Mozilla Firefox 3.0

After reading Jeremy LaCroix's comment:

Also I forgot to mention, my problem seems to have started with Firefox
3 B5. I don't remember having trouble before that.

I decided to test if Firefox 3 Beta 5 was causing the problem. I had not
upgraded to Firefox Beta 5 (didn't check for updates), but found the
update to Beta 5. I updated all other (irrelevant) packages, except
firefox, firefox-3.0, firefox-3.0-gnome-support, and firefox-gnome-
support. I then opened Firefox from the console (to see any error
messages) and proceeded to test extensively and try to make
nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash. This including opening many
Youtube videos as tabs, and refreshing random Youtube tabs. Firefox did
slow down dramatically, and it did freeze for a few moments, but
Firefox/flashplugin/nspluginwrapper did not crash. The Youtube videos
continued to play. No error messages relevant to
nspluginwrapper/flashplugin were on the console.

I then upgraded the specified packages. Once again, I opened Firefox
from the console (to see any error messages) and proceeded to test
extensively and try to make nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash.
Nearly immediately, without opening more than one or two Youtube video
tabs, the flashplugin crashed and nspluginwrapper outputed errors on the
console (same errors as those in Bug .

I am convinced this is evidence that an update from Firefox Beta 4 to
Beta 5 caused the bug. I will look for any relevant bug reports that
document this issue, which should be after 2008-04-05 (April 5th), when
Firefox Beta 5 was added to the hardy as an update. Please specify if
you know of any such bug reports. Otherwise, I will open a bug report if
necessary.
