[Bug 244907] Re: Please sync lyx 1.5.5-1 from Debian(Unstable)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 228067 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067 There are already two (non-duplicate) bugs reported. Bug 228067 is a bug with LyX that is fixed in version 1.5.5-1. As a result of incompatibility with the latest version of Qt4 (present in Hardy Backports and Intrepid), LyX fails to start. This bug is currently open because the source package of LyX 1.5.5-1 in Intrepid failed to build (apparently because of a problem with a boost dependency). Note that LyX 1.5.5-1 is present in Intrepid as a source package, but the binary packages failed to build (even though LyX was successfully backported without source changes). Bug 242648 is a backport request. This bug was fixed when LyX 1.5.5-1 (with no changes) was uploaded to Hardy Backports and binary packages were successfully built. I will mark this bug report as a duplicate of Bug 228067, since that bug report is still open. -- Please sync lyx 1.5.5-1 from Debian(Unstable) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts
The bug still exists in Intrepid as the source package of LyX 1.5.5-1 in Intrepid failed to build (apparently because of a problem with the boost dependency). However, a related bug, Bug #242648, was fixed since LyX 1.5.5-1 (with no changes) was uploaded to Hardy Backports and binary packages were successfully built. [Bug 242648] Re: backport lyx 1.5.5 to hardy
Actually, this should be specifically a request for 1.5.5-1, as that is the latest Debian/Ubuntu package. Ubuntu Intrepid never had the source package LyX 1.5.5 in the first place (LyX 1.5.5-1 was auto-synced from Debian unstable). Normally, since LyX 1.5.5 is a bugfix, this would not be eligible for backporting. However, please note that the bug only occurs when hardy- backports is enabled, therefore the fix should appear in hardy-backports as well. There is need to fix a bug when hardy-backports is not enabled as no bug would exist. The LyX 1.5.5-1 source package is included in Ubuntu Intrepid, but the build fails for all architectures. To get this bug fixed in Ubuntu, the build of LyX in Intrepid should be fixed first (currently it fails to build because of a problem with boost), then LyX 1.5.5-1 can be backported to hardy. However, I was successful when creating a package using Prevu. No source changes were necessary. As a result, this backport request is marked as confirmed. I have been using the Prevu-built package without problems for over a month now. ** Summary changed: - backport lyx 1.5.5 to hardy + backport lyx 1.5.5-1 to hardy ** Description changed: Binary package hint: lyx - We are still suffering from this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyx/+bug/228067 - so pleas backport the lyx 1.5.5 to hardy + Please backport LyX 1.5.5-1 to Ubuntu Hardy. + + This backport will fix Bug 228067. [Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts
A lot of people have been saying to run make install, but that is not a good solution IMHO. This would cause problems later on when the LyX package is updated and one wishes to install that package. If LyX is not removed via apt, conflicts will emerge. There are really only two reasonable temporary solutions. 1) ./configure and make (no sudo make install) and run LyX from the directory that has been created 2) build/install an updated package Solution 2 is the better one, as it uses the excellent Ubuntu/Debian package management in place, but it does take a bit more effort. It is not possible to directly install the Debian unstable (Sid) binary package for LyX without modification, because of a missing dependency: libboost-filesystem1.34.1. The way to do this is to use an automatic backporting utility called Prevu, which will modify the package's dependencies for Ubuntu. Run the following commands in Terminal (Applications-Terminal) one at a time. sudo -s apt-get install prevu prevu-init echo deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid main /etc/apt/sources.list apt-get update prevu-update exit prevu lyx The last step will take a while depending on the speed of your computer as LyX is compiled. When it is done, run Update Manager (System - Administration - Update Manager) and update LyX. Alternatively I can give you the LyX packages I built with Prevu, but I have a 64-bit system and consequently have only 64-bit packages (I do not know how to build 32-bit packages with Prevu on a 64-bit system if that is possible). -- lyx 1.5.3-1 crashes as soon as it starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is subscribed to qt4-x11 in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

The Debian LyX maintainers strongly advise against using checkinstall for LyX, and they state that using checkinstall for LyX could have bad consequences. [Bug 228067] Re: lyx 1.5.3.1 crashes as soon as it starts
Finally, success. Using the source packages from Debian unstable (LyX 1.5.5-1), I was able to build an 8.04 package for 64-bit with Prevu, an automated backporting utility: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Prevu A side note, LyX 1.5.5-1 in Debian unstable was released yesterday (May 14), so it has not yet been synced with Intrepid (the previous version of LyX failed to build in Intrepid, but 1.5.5-1 should build successfully). As far as I have seen, the problems have gone. I have qt4.4 from hardy backports (it's not disabled), and no problems. I have built 64-bit packages which I can send to anyone who wants them (send me a private message to daradib on Ubuntu Forums). I don't know how to build 32-bit packages using Prevu on a 64-bit system, so you can make the package yourself by installing prevu (package in repositories), adding deb-src line for Debian Unstable, sudo apt-get update, and running the command prevu lyx. You could also probably just install the Debian unstable (Sid) binary package for LyX (without modification), but I have not tried that. -- lyx 1.5.3.1 crashes as soon as it starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am not sure I quite understand you. I apologize. This is a bugfix release for the wesnoth package that is included in Ubuntu at version 1:1.4-1 (same 1.4 branch). It is not a binary-only package, a source package is available from Debian. [Bug 220723] Re: Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Not uploading wesnoth-tools is a relatively simple fix, as it is not a required dependency. And yes, there are a number of packaging changes. But the upstream release (not Debian) is a simple bugfix release, so it would be good if 1.4.1 could be used. Using the current debian directory is a possibility, but not good when it comes to compatibility with Debian (will make syncing with Debian more difficult). If this bug won't be fixed due to these changes in packaging, I think Won't Fix status would be a better choice for this bug report (rather than Invalid). Otherwise, it should be marked as New if the new package has some chance of succeeding in hardy-updates or possibly hardy- backports (then this bug report would need to be changed). -- Please sync wesnoth 1:1.4.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 177856] Re: Gutsy 64: nspluginwrapper errors with flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.115
I think this bug is related to bug 212877. Just like this bug, the people there report having 64-bit SMP (multicore/multiprocessor) systems and it was brought by Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Beta 5. The difference, however, is that bug 212877 relates to Mozilla Firefox crashing, not just Flash alone. On April 6th, I decided to test if the Firefox 3 Beta 5 update was causing the problem. I had not upgraded to Firefox Beta 5 (didn't check for updates), but found the update to Beta 5. I updated all other (irrelevant) packages, except firefox, firefox-3.0, firefox-3.0-gnome- support, and firefox-gnome-support. I then opened Firefox from the console (to see any error messages) and proceeded to test extensively and try to make nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash. This including opening many Youtube videos as tabs, and refreshing random Youtube tabs. Firefox did slow down dramatically, and it did freeze for a few moments, but Firefox/flashplugin/nspluginwrapper did not crash. The Youtube videos continued to play. No error messages relevant to nspluginwrapper/flashplugin were on the console. I then upgraded the specified packages. Once again, I opened Firefox from the console (to see any error messages) and proceeded to test extensively and try to make nspluginwrapper and/or flashplugin crash. Nearly immediately, without opening more than one or two Youtube video tabs, the flashplugin crashed and nspluginwrapper outputed errors on the console. I think, unless someone knows the solution, we should narrow done what difference in Firefox 3.0 from Beta 4 to Beta 5 caused the problem. I think I should look at Swiftweasel as well. -- Gutsy 64: nspluginwrapper errors with flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.115 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I apologize, I was not clear at all. Does 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2 (in gutsy-updates) fix your problem? I say this because this version was published on 2008-02-07, and probably built later, after any references to the existence of the bug. If it was not fixed with that package, could you provide the output of the Terminal, if upgraded through apt-get. Using installed version 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12, run sudo apt-get update, and then sudo apt- get upgrade. Paste the output as a comment/ sideshownick refers to the old version of the package. Could you please specify? I would assume you mean 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12. If so, then I believe this should have been fixed by 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2 as this would be the install error when the old tar is still on the hard disk. -- Youtube stopped working, after 12.1 update was installed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189870 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 104470] Re: [Feisty] Firefox crashed -- libflashplayer.so
Okay, good news regarding finding the problem that causes this bug. The problem is indeed the update to Mozilla Firefox 3.0 After reading Jeremy LaCroix's comment: Also I forgot to mention, my problem seems to have started with Firefox 3 B5. I don't remember having trouble before that. I decided to test if Firefox 3 Beta 5 was causing the problem.
