[Bug 1577197] Re: Pulseaudio bluez5-util.c: TryAcquire() failed - Operation Not Authorized

2017-02-23 Thread Czikus
The problem was solved for me by installing pulseaudio 8.0 from sources,
without Ubuntu patches. No need to re-connect the headphones or use the
workaround script anymore.

2017-02-20 Thread Czikus
Same problem with Ubuntu 16.04 and Jaybird X3. The workaround in a2dp.py
works, but it's an annoying problem. I tried bluez 5.43, and the problem
still exists. Are there any ideas on how to fix this problem
permanently?

[Bug 1663926] Re: Dell XPS 15 9560 (Nvidia 1050) black screen, Feb 11, 2017

2017-02-15 Thread Czikus
In my case, it is most likely this bug:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156341

When the nvidia card is disabled with bbswitch, running lspci causes an
immediate freeze. Of curse, if I'm not running lspci, the freeze will
occur sooner or later anyway.

2017-02-14 Thread Czikus
I would like to add that another symptom of probably the same problem is
constant freezes when on prime with intel selected. My system (XPS 15
9560, GTX1050M) boots fine, but freezes basically within 1 minute of the
start of X.

[Bug 1600413] [NEW] Unclaimed register detected after reading register 0x65f10

2016-07-08 Thread Czikus
Public bug reported:

On Dell Precision 5510, the following appears in dmesg when booting on
battery (no AC plugged in) and then plugging in the AC (TLP is used).
This problem has been reported upstream
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96214), and even a patch
has been suggested (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95646)
which does not work however.

There is a related launchpad bug against mainline kernel
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1586046).

This problem occurs on:
- 4.4.0-28-generic
- 4.6.3 (mainline PPA)
- 4.7rc6 (compiled from Linus' tree)

[Bug 1490229] Re: Brightness set to maximum after DPMS standby

2015-09-19 Thread Czikus
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected has-fix has-workaround kubuntu
reproducible single-occurrence

** Description changed:

After configuring screen energy saving in KDE, I noticed that after DPMS
standby, my screen brightness is set to maximum. This is confirmed by
  `cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness`. The problem can
be easily reproduce by switching to standby manually using `xset dpms
  force standby`.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) echo "300" | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  2) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  This will report: 300
  3) xset dpms force standby
  4) Move mouse/press key
  5) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  This will report 937

[Bug 1490229] [NEW] Brightness set to maximum after DPMS standby

2015-08-29 Thread Czikus
Public bug reported:

After configuring screen energy saving in KDE, I noticed that after DPMS
standby, my screen brightness is set to maximum. This is confirmed by
`cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness`. The problem can
be easily reproduce by switching to standby manually using `xset dpms
force standby`.

Steps to reproduce:
1) echo 300 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
2) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
This will report: 300
3) xset dpms force standby
4) Move mouse/press key
5) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
This will report 937

[Bug 1484221] [NEW] Kernel panic on HID bluetooth device disconnect

2015-08-12 Thread Czikus
Public bug reported:

With 4.1.0-3-generic on Ubuntu Wily/15.10 x86_64, I get a kernel panic
every time my bluetooth mouse disconnects.

This bug has been reported previously for Redhat and Arch:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1250279
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/45787?string=%5Blinux%5D
The details of the trace are attached to those reports. My trace is pretty much
identical.

A patch has been released that is going to appear in kernel 4.2:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg40330.html

Would it be possible to add it as Ubuntu patch?

[Bug 1479932] Re: gstconfig.h file is missing

2015-08-06 Thread Czikus
I had the same problem in a large project compiled from source. But,
removing all compilation cache and recompiling worked. Probably
something must have changed in the ubuntu package between my previous
compilation and now.

[Bug 1371783] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 (utopic) fails to install/upgrade

2015-07-24 Thread Czikus
The workaround is to go to:
/var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial
delete all files and try installing the fonts again. If you're luck and you get
all of them downloaded right, they will install. If not, delete the partial
files again and try installing the fonts until you succeed.

[Bug 899877] [NEW] Bluetooth headphones do not connect with A2DP starting from 3.2.0-2 kernel

2011-12-04 Thread Czikus
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10, with the xorg edgers repository enabled, after
updating to kernel 3.2.0-2, the A2DP profile/connection to bluetooth
headphones stopped working. Previously in 3.2.0-1 everything worked
correctly. In 3.2.0-3-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux 3.2.0-rc4 the problem still exists.

More details:
- the HSP/HFP profile connects properly, only A2DP does not work
- reverting to 3.2.0-1 fixes the problem
- the problem exists on 4 different bluetooth stereo headphones

[Bug 661910] Re: Kwin compositing problem on maverick

2010-11-14 Thread Czikus
I would like to confirm this as well. Over the last couple of days, I've
seen artifacts only once or twice and they are likely to be caused by
something else.

[Bug 661910] Re: Kwin compositing problem on maverick

2010-11-04 Thread Czikus
Exactly the same behavior as in Ihor Hayvuk's post but using Intel Corporation
Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03):
- compositing off on startup (can be enabled and starts normally if checks
disabled in the configuration)
- artifacts and refreshing problems in yakuake, chrome and various other apps
- blank screen on logout

Same behavior on a recently updated KDE (to 4.5) in Lucid. Opening the

[Bug 126825] Re: external Seagate FreeAgent disk doesn't auto mount

2008-03-07 Thread Czikus
Another workaround, which allows to automount the HDD and make it appear in
media managers like the one in KDE. It seems that the main problem with the
drive is caused by the fact that the storage and volume devices do not
appear in HAL when the disk is remounted without disconnecting the power. So,
the workaround is to add the devices manually using hal-device --add. The best
solution is to first mount the disk properly for the first time after
reconnecting the power and look into the output of hal-device for
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_here_uuid_of_the_volume and its
parent e.g.
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_serial_Seagate_FreeAgentDesktop_6QG220EL_0_0.
Copy the parameter list into files e.g. volume.txt and storage.txt and then,
when the device is reconnected, use:
cat storage.txt | hal-device --add
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_serial_Seagate_FreeAgentDesktop_6QG220EL_0_0

cat volume.txt | hal-device --add
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_here_uuid_of_the_volume
This will make the drive appear in the media managers.

I wrote a script, which is run by udev and does that automatically. In udev
rules I added a file 99-usb-hd-fix.rules (most of the Freeagent users have
that file anyway to solve the spin-down problem), which contains:
BUS==scsi, ATTRS{vendor}==Seagate*, ATTRS{model}==FreeAgent*,
PROGRAM=vol_id --uuid %N, RUN+=/bin/usbhdfix %k %P

Then, I created a script /bin/usbhdfix (attached), which solves the
spin-down problem as suggested in several places, and then creates the
hal devices. As I said, the property list is copied from hal-device, it
just needs to be checked that the property volume.is_mounted = false,
otherwise the mount managers will think that the disk is already mounted
and will not try to mount it themselves.

Hope this helps someone.
