[Bug 741190] Re: libfbclient.so not in libfbclient2 package
The libfbclient.so symlink is used only when linking binaries (like flamerobin) that use the firebird client library. When linked, any binary embeds in itself the SONAME of the linked library, and looks for that name when loaded later. In current SONAME of the firebird client library is libfbclient.so.2. The whole dance helps linked binaries not care about library versions too much. They are linked with whatever is available at build time, and later require a library version with the same SONAME to preserve compatibility. If you don't use dynamic linking, but prefer to load the shared library at runtime via dl_open(), then you should look for 'libfbclient.so.2' too, since this is what guarantees that there are no incompatible changes in the library. The '2' is not related to the project version, for example it is kept in Firebird 3.0, since client library from there is still compatible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741190 Title: libfbclient.so not in libfbclient2 package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firebird2.1/+bug/741190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

-=| Alex Peshkoff, Fri, Apr 04, 2008 at 11:47:53AM - |=- Lock manager process tries to exit, which should not happen on FB 2.0, except when using gds_drop. In theory this may happen due to setting lock manager exit flag in shared memory (normally done by gds_drop), but to test for it, I need a reproducible test case. Well, Debian (and Ubuntu) builds Firebird with -DTERMINALTE_IDLE_LOCK_MANAGER. This may be another cause possible for fb_lock_mgr to try to exit. Re: [Bug 206469] Re: merge firebird2.0 from debian
-=| Daniel Holbach, Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 07:04:04AM - |=- To me it seems that this would revert the changes made in 5ubuntu1, namely: - debian/patches/ubuntu-port-ia64.patch - debian/patches/ubuntu-port-hppa.patch For the record, new ports are disabled in Debian to avoid clashes with implementation IDs with upstream. Background: in firebird, each combination of hardware architecture and operating system that is supported is given an unique number, called implementation ID. Databases that are created on a given system have the implementation id of the OS/arch in them to avoid opening the same database on another arch/OS, which could possibly lead to corruption (the binary file format differs between architectures/OSes). Adding new implementation IDs as patches is bad, as there is no guarantee that upstream will not use the same implementation ID for some other OS/arch, or, if upstream will use the same implementation ID for the new port as the patch. In the former case databases will be wrongly identified, in the later, there will be incompatibility between upstream and the distribution. For example, if patch adds ID 80 to be linux/ia64, and later upstream adds support to linux/ia64 using implementation ID 85, when the upstream change propagates to the distribution, the new version of the package (identifying linux/ia64 as 85) will be unable to work woth the databases created with the patched version (as they use ID 80). So if you ask me, drop the patches and ask upstream to add them in their CVS[1]. This way the IDs will be reserved and can be safely added to the package even if upstream didn't make a release that supports them yet. [1] I'fe done this before, and the usual reaction is Did you run the TCS test suite? so it would be good if you can confirm that Firebird really works on the new architecture. Also, as always, sending the patches to Debian BTS is warmly encouraged and will help keep differences between Debian and Ubunti to a minimum. [Bug 198383] Re: Turn on COBOL language in Firebird SQL Pre-processor
Please someone report this on the Debian BTS to remind me to add it in the packages for Debian too. -- Turn on COBOL language in Firebird SQL Pre-processor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
