[Bug 528432] Re: [gm45] X crashes and restarts with *ERROR* Failed to pin buffer 4 of 17

2010-08-20 Thread Dana Olson
My X has crashed and brought me back to the GDM login screen several
times in the past 24 hours. This is a brand new PC from Acer (work
bought it for me, shipped to my door), with a fresh install using the
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS ISO that just released. I did update it since the
install, but it was only one file, IIRC.

[90236.955921] [drm:i915_gem_do_execbuffer] *ERROR* Failed to pin buffer 2 of
3, total 67125248 bytes: -28
[90236.955925] [drm:i915_gem_do_execbuffer] *ERROR* 1691 objects [6 pinned],
280305664 object bytes [47337472 pinned], 47337472/134217728 gtt bytes

I had read that turning off Compiz may help, so I disabled the desktop
effects, but this has only been within the past 10 minutes so it's too
early to tell if it helps.

[Bug 432353] Re: ath5k: phy0: failed to wakeup the MAC Chip

2010-05-03 Thread Dana Olson
I realize the bug is upstream, but just adding another report here - I
also have an Acer Aspire One with Ubuntu 10.04 final, receiving this
bug. It seems to be much more frequent in 10.04 than it was in 9.10 or
9.04.

Can't install Ubuntu 10.04 final due to X crashing due to this bug.

A workaround is found in this thread:

I was able to install, but now am stuck in 640x480 resolution.

[Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-04-30 Thread Dana Olson
Sorry, I posted my comment #114 before seeing the rest of the comments
in the thread. I thought I had seen them all, but apparently not.

I followed some advice (re-enable kms, disable dri and change driver to
intel in xorg.conf) from Chris' link in his comment #113, and *so far* I
am not having any lockups, and my screen res is back to 1280x1024.

[Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-04-30 Thread Dana Olson
As a follow-up, my system ran fine for a little bit with the fixes I
mentioned in post #115, but then after a while the screen went black and
I couldn't do anything but hold the power button in to power off.

The system wouldn't even reboot with Alt+SysRq - K, S, U, B...

This is not very fun - I am trying to set up Ubuntu for a Windows user,
trying to convert her, but if the system randomly crashes like this, the
conversion is bound to fail.

[Bug 85424] Re: Unmount fails every time

2007-06-08 Thread Dana Olson
The fix does not solve the issue for me. This is still occuring. I
didn't even see this bug until after I tried deleting the hal files in
my rc.local file at every bootup.

There is a tiny patch that might be worth looking at to fix this
problem:

It was posted in bug #95368.

[Bug 62691] enable MPU on CMI cards (snd-cmipci)

2006-09-27 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

For Edgy+1 - CMI sound cards have MPU support but it isn't enabled by
default, per ALSA's documentation. This fix comes out of said
documentation.

Adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base:
 options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388

I encountered this today on IRC while helping someone troubleshoot why
their CMI card's MIDI wouldn't work, and this solution did work for him.

This is the link I am referring to..
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=cmipci
(Sorry, I thought it was official documentation, but maybe it isn't, I'm not
real sure. It's a wiki from the looks of it.)

[Bug 61007] moving panel launcher erases details

2006-09-18 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I right-clicked on my panel, added a launcher to launch vncviewer, set
and icon and a name.

Then I clicked it and dragged it to reposition it on my panel. After
letting go of the mouse button, the icon turns into the default question
mark icon.

Right clicking on it and going to the properties of the launcher reveal
that the command, comment, icon, and name have all been wiped.

To make sure I was not imagining this, I tried again with a launcher for
Azureus, and it happened again.

[Bug 56478] gnome-panel dies when screenreader is enabled and...

2006-08-15 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

OK, in Dapper, if I enable the Screenreader option in the Assistive
Technology Preferences, gnome-panel (and epiphany) die unexpectedly at
certain times.

I can reproduce this by doing the following:
- Log on to GNOME desktop.
- Close Gnoppernicus (optional, doesn't change anything).
- Hit ALT+F2, type in xcalc or vncviewer and hit Enter.
- gnome-panel crashes.

Disabling the Screenreader and restarting GNOME shows this issue
disappears.

The desired behavior is that gnome-panel does not crash.

The other issue is that sometimes Epiphany just crashes too, but doesn't
if Screenreader is disabled.

[Bug 54534] Does not list applications in ~/.local/ or in alternate locations

2006-07-30 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntustudiolauncher

The Ubuntu Studio Launcher application has a shortcoming that has been a
cause of a number of support requests in our IRC channel, and on the
forum. It is that certain applications do not store their .desktop files
in the [correct] location. Currently, the only location this program
searches is /usr/share/applications, but it should also search through
/usr/share/gnome/apps/ and ~/.local/share/applications

Since I am the upstream, and I am the first to report this as a bug, I
will fix it also with a new release.

[Bug 51837] renaming file losing focus while video thumbnails appear

2006-07-04 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I go into a folder with several images or videos, the thumbnailer
is doing its job generating thumbnails to preview the files. But when
I try to rename a file, the focus is shifted away from the filename
field to nothing. This often results in files with no meaningful name,
and is very frustrating to try and rename a file under GNOME.

The only solution is to sit there and wait for every thumbnail to finish
being generated or to turn off file previews, but this is not a solution
that fixes the focus automatically shifting away from the renaming of
the file.
