[Bug 1760934] Re: Sound not working on HP x2 10-p030nl - Realtek rt5640

2018-04-08 Thread Daniele Laudani
I managed to get it to work.
Here is how:

copy these files as instructed in the README:
https://github.com/plbossart/UCM/tree/master/bytcr-rt5640

Then, from the terminal:
pacmd set-source-port
alsa_input.platform-bytcr_rt5640.HiFi__hw_bytcrrt5640__source
pacmd set-default-sink
alsa_output.platform-bytcr_rt5640.HiFi__hw_bytcrrt5640__sink

[Bug 1754792] Re: synaptics driver wont load for touchpad, only evdev

2018-04-08 Thread Daniele Laudani
This will be solved in linux 4.17. There was a patch in January to
enable this device: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10162493

It was merged in the future 4.17:
http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1804.0/02942.html

So now either we wait for the next kernel or someone at Canonical
decides to backport this patch to supported kernels (it is quite a
simple driver actually, should not be a problem)

[Bug 1762122] [NEW] drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware not working anymore on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-04-07 Thread Daniele Laudani
Public bug reported:

I installed today Ubuntu 18.04. I have a secondary monitor (Acer
AL1914), which does not provide a EDID, so I created one and usually
loaded directly from the kernel at startup.

The EDID is located here:
/lib/firmware/edid/al1914.bin

The kernel command line is this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash
drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/al1914.bin"

On Ubuntu 16.04, this worked perfectly. Now, the additional mode from
the edid is not present among the resolutions available (I have to
create a new one and add it with cvt and xrandr once the system is
loaded).

[Bug 1760934] Re: Sound not working on HP x2 10-p030nl - Realtek rt5640

2018-04-04 Thread Daniele Laudani
Interestingly, even though pulseaudio doesn't start and no sound
indicator appears on the system, if I start something using VLC, the
audio works. No sound in the browser or system, only in VLC. I guess
this is due to some bugs in pulseaudio, isn't it?

[Bug 1754792] Re: synaptics driver wont load for touchpad, only evdev

2018-03-30 Thread Daniele Laudani
>From what I understand, the touchpad has a secondary i2c interface used
for advanced multitouch recognition. Using the aforementioned program, I
collected some i2c packets and analyzed them.

here is a screenshot of the app, for reference:
https://imgur.com/a/ZisG5

The packets are 32byte long, like this one:

5D 08 52 B7 99 34 16 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

the first byte is always 5D.

the second byte represents the number of fingers recognized (max. 5) and
eventual clicks in this format:
[x][x][x][x][x][][][c]
the bits marked x are the number of fingers; the c bit indicates if the left
button is pressed. In the example, we have 1000 (0x08), meaning only one
finger and no left clicks.

the next bytes are in sequences of 5 bytes, each sequence representing one
finger (the rest is zero). In the example, only one finger is recognized, so we
only have one sequence of 5 bytes.
This sequence gives us the following information:
[Position] : the position of the finger on the trackpad in x,y coordinates
[H]: this indicates the pressure of the finger
[MK]: I don't know what this means, if you figure out please tell me

The first three bytes of the sequence are the position, but in a strange
format: let's say we have ABCDEF, the x is given by the exadecimal ACD, and the
y by BEF.
In the example: (x, y) = (0x5B7, 0x299) = (1463, 665)

The fourth byte is the MK value (I don't know what this is) in reverse:
we have 34 in the example, so MK = (4,3)

The fifth byte is the pressure H, nothing strange here, just the hex
value

The only problem here is that I don't find the right bus to communicate on
linux, does anyone know if there is any way to get this information from
Windows (e.g. the i2c bus number)? After this is worked out, a driver must be
written, or maybe modify the existing one for elan i2c touchpads.

[Bug 1332520] Re: backlight bug

2015-06-12 Thread Daniele Laudani
To solve your problem just do as following:

sudo gedit /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb

Add below the line Series 7 / 9 this one:

keyboard:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svn[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*:pn*670Z*:pvr*

Save and close, now on the terminal:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure udev

Reboot.
The patch for this was merged in systemd some days ago (see
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/136).

[Bug 1398843] [NEW] scope API - department does not reset on filters' change

2014-12-03 Thread Daniele Laudani
Public bug reported:

Let's assume one decides to have a different tree of departments depending on
which filter is selected.
If i select a department(e.g. with id="80" and not present in the filter2), and
then i select filter2, the following exception is thrown:

ScopeBase::run(): unity::LogicException:
SearchReplyImpl::register_departments(): Failed to validate departments:
unity::LogicException: DepartmentImpl::validate_departments(): current
department '80' doesn't match any of the subdepartments of parent ''

However, if i select again filter2, the department resets correctly to the root.
It seems like the new query on the filter selection does not update the
departments.
