[Bug 599174] Re: Frequent kernel panics after switching to Lucid (netbook)
Confirmed an issue only from 2.6.31 onward (tested on 2.6.31/32/34). Confirmed working on 2.6.29/30. Memtest came back fine after 13 passes, so it's not a hardware issue, however if I run the same command from a VM of Lucid (running on the same hardware), the problem goes away. I believe this is an issue of the kernel interacting with my specific hardware. -- Frequent kernel panics after switching to Lucid (netbook) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 599174] [NEW] Frequent kernel panics after switching to Lucid (netbook)
Public bug reported: I'm running on an Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook, with an Intel Atom processor (1.66GHz) with 1GB of RAM. After running on Jaunty for a year, I decided it's time to switch to Lucid. I did a clean install, erasing my old partitions. During the install, the installer froze twice (keyboard/mouse unresponsive, display not changing). After getting through the installer, everything worked fine for a week, then I attempted to install a few Perl modules (through CPAN). Suddenly, my computer would start hard-locking at random intervals. Sometimes during module installation, other times during simple browsing. It happens completely randomly, many times a day, but I have no way to induce it purposefully. I asked on IRC, and was told about the Magic SysRQ. During the last lock, I tried the reboot sequence (Alt+SysRQ+REISUB), but to no avail, it was hopelessly locked, which I'm assuming means a kernel panic has occured (I have no NumLock/ScrollLock lights to confirm that). I don't know what other debugging info I can provide, because I don't have a serial console to see what the kernel is panicking with (if it is). I've tried reinstalling Lucid, but the problem remains. What can I do? [Bug 599174] Re: Frequent kernel panics after switching to Lucid (netbook)
I'm able to induce the situation if I run 'cpan' on a complex module (this is only one way to induce it, it's not the only time this happens). I did it from a tty, and soon after running the command, I suddenly got a huge barrage of messages scrolling quickly on my screen. It was obvious that the messages were looping, nothing new was being added. I was able to take some photos of what was scrolling by with my camera at a high exposure setting. I've attached one. ** Attachment added: 100_0290.JPG http://launchpadlibrarian.net/51010690/100_0290.JPG -- Frequent kernel panics after switching to Lucid (netbook) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
