[Bug 908560] Re: Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2012-06-02 Thread Danny Staple
As Xavier stated - an upgrade, that is not required for other systems is
not really a solution. It is also not the solution. However, I would
like to state that in precise, this seems to have stopped occurring,
along with the extremely frustrating new problem of no hibernate
functionality at all - rendering precise rather precisely useless on all
mobile devices. Ubuntu is clearly not a suitable linux distro for the
Dell Duo tablet device.

If it helps - I popped mine screen out on the scanner for the

[Bug 908560] Re: Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2012-01-05 Thread Danny Staple
@teh603 - I've had similar issues too, however, I'm not always able to
get to the stack trace to prove it. It crashed a fair few times on me
plugging that in. I've now taken the most recent updates, so I'll see if
it happens then. It is not 100% reproducible though - it happens often
enough to be annoying, roughly once every couple of days at the moment.

2011-12-27 Thread Danny Staple
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

With a Dell Duo laptop when docking while turned on, I get a kernel oops.
This is Oneiric, upgraded from 11.04 NBR to Xubuntu desktop (I tried KDE
desktop between).

Often (but not always) I get a kernel oops, related to ac notify.
Stack trace based on scanned screen - grepping for the trace in the var/log
directory got me no joy after the reboot.

Note the odd intrusion of a mouse pointer - this there when it blows up.

  Uname -a is:

lspci output for with and without dock to be attached.

Hmm okay - lspci when docked/not docked is the same. Trying lsusb.

Diff is:

$ diff lsusb_*

< Bus 001 Device 012: ID 0572:1412 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc.

Probably a red herring - given the stack trace indicates ac notification.

[Bug 908560] [NEW] Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2011-12-25 Thread Danny Staple
Public bug reported:

With a Dell Duo laptop when docking while turned on, I get a kernel oops.
This is Oneiric, upgraded from 11.04 NBR to Xubuntu desktop (I tried KDE
desktop between).

Often (but not always) I get a kernel oops, related to ac notify.
Stack trace based on scanned screen - grepping for the trace in the var/log
directory got me no joy after the reboot.

Note the odd intrusion of a mouse pointer - this there when it blows up.

Uname -a is:
"Linux danny-dell-duo 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:50:42 UTC
2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux"

lspci output for with and without dock to be attached.

Full model info on laptop:

[Bug 872769] [NEW] Mousepad find/replace inserting replace text

2011-10-12 Thread Danny Staple
Public bug reported:

Mousepad can get itself into a state where using the find and replace
(CTRL-H) functionality will cause it to insert the replacement text
*after* the original text instead of replacing the original text.

For example:
* original content: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy red dog
* Search for: quick, replace with: rapid
* Expected result: The rapid brown fox jumps over the lazy red dog
* Actual result: The quickrapid rown fox jumps over the lazy red dog

I've not consistently found out how to reproduce this. Using the new
button to open a new document (or is this another app?) means the new
document does not exhibit this behaviour.

When in this state - both finding/replacing all, or case-by-case will do
this.

[Bug 387068] Re: psc1310 Communication Errors on Printing

2009-06-16 Thread Danny Staple
Turning on Cups debug was display errors with the entropy device, and other
things on the machine were crashing. I think this may have been down to a more
low level issue with an installation that was dual VBox and native boot. A
reinstallation without this quirk, on the same box, shows none of these
symptoms.
Therefore - this looks more to be down to a hosed installation.

[Bug 387068] Re: psc1310 Communication Errors on Printing

2009-06-14 Thread Danny Staple
I managed to get the correct ppd, the cfoomatic-db-hpijs package was
still missing. It is now using the 1310 ppd. The dist-upgrade did
nothing.

As well as these communication errors, I have now spotted this in the cups
error log:
"cupsdAuthorize: Local authentication certificate not found!"

When trying port 631, all seems fine until I click one of the tabs -
"PID 15339 (/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/admin.cgi) crashed on signal 6!"

I have attached the new data.

[Bug 387068] [NEW] psc1310 Communication Errors on Printing

2009-06-14 Thread Danny Staple
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

The printer will report its status as fine, idle, but will return a
Communication error when trying to print any document, including a test
page. The printer worked fine before Jaunty and still works fine in Win
- confirming that this must be a SW problem.

HPLIP shows an error number 5012.

If I manually run a test page I get this error:

/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/dbus/connection.py:242: DeprecationWarning:
object.__init__() takes no parameters
  super(Connection, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

Has the current python API gone out of sync with HPLIP or DBUS?

[Bug 184569] Re: Copy and paste to a new document causes a segmentation fault

2009-05-30 Thread Danny Staple
I have tried this again in Ubuntu 9.04 - it still occurs.
Steps to try this:
* Start TCM
* Open TERD
* Create a few entities
* Drag a rectangle across them to select them.
* Copy them using either CTRL-C or the menu.
* Still inside TERD, hit file, then new, and say no to the save first dialog.
* On the blank document paste the copied buffer.
* The TERD instace of TCM will crash. The Menu instance of TCM will still be
open.
* Nothing left in home directory, dir TCM started in or /var/crash.

This is still clearly reproducible.

[Bug 80534] Re: Music sounds very Scratchy

2009-04-26 Thread Danny Staple
Nasenbaer - which Ubuntu version was the fix released in?
If this is not yet available via apt in an Ubuntu distribution, it is not
appropriate to set it to fix released.

[Bug 115765] Re: Game Menu is halfway off screen

2008-10-10 Thread Danny Staple
I can certainly confirm it is still behaving this way in Hardy.
This is on a different machine with different hardware.

apt-cache policy holotz-castle
holotz-castle:
  Installed: 1.3.9-1
  Candidate: 1.3.9-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.3.9-1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Has the package been upgraded in the 8.10 beta?

All music - intro, main menu is scratchy.

Other notes:
I am now running it on quite different sound hardware - so I do not think this

[Bug 84562] Re: Save status not changed when abstraction canvas properties changed

2008-09-07 Thread Danny Staple
Mike,
This is still the case in puredata 0.40.2 in Hardy. The defect also affects
other canvas properties, for example - Hide object name and properties.
Thanks,
Danny

Or maybe it is program statistic. After running a tournament to go in
groups of 4 mode for a while, it went when pressing the "program
statistics" button.

[Bug 252721] [NEW] Corewars segmentation fault on "game statistics".

2008-07-28 Thread Danny Staple
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: corewars

After running a couple of simulations (and having to halt them due to
programs which were unable to kill each other) I then hit the "program
statistics" then "game statistics" buttons. The application then
produced a segmentation fault. I have since set the core dump size to
1mb to see if I can get a core dump from it.

[Bug 170185] Re: Support for copy/paste with system clipboard

Good work Krzyzstof.
I am adding this as new in distribution Ubuntu. In the most recent version of
Hardy, I still cannot copy/paste between two instances of inkscape. Until it
has made a distribution, it can only be fix committed.
