Adding to comment above, the discoverable point is totally clear, but
making button at the top panel optional is pretty reasonable, it was
comfortable, took less space (vertical space on display is expensive)
and it is actually more natural for Gnome 3 users. Let this big dash
button in the side panel (as it is done right now) by default, but
please give us an option to change this behavior. Actually, I don't
understand why to take out smart hide feature of the side panel too.
Give people a choice, set simple and discoverable solution by default.
