[Bug 1958183] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 installer crashes when "download updates" selected

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1880277

The Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop Live CD installer crashes when trying to
install. Installing without updates succeeds, but results in a broken
install (no ethernet, or dkms for some reason).

  How the error occurred:
   - Run Live CD (normal graphics mode)
   - Run installer
   - Select "Minimal install" and "install third-party software"
   - Set up partition table (2GB EFI partition, rest of disk Ubuntu)
   - Installer crashes at last stage

  Expected behaviour: Installer doesn't crash
  Actual behaviour: Installer crashes.

Note, I have installed ubuntu 20.04 on this system before, so I have no
idea why the installer would crash here.

+ EDIT: Problem appears to be caused by nvidia-driver-440 package.
+ Installing with 21.10 (which defaults to nvidia-driver-470) appeared to
+ fix the problem.

[Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-04-14 Thread Dave Evans
I can add some information to this bug (or what seems to be a bunch of
related audio bugs).

In my case it is related to my sound card, switching to and from the
soundcard audio causes the bug to appear and disappear.

Line-Out - Built-in Audio : No bug
Digital Output (S/PDIF) - EMU20k2 [Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Series] :

I've added more info about my hardware devices and drivers:

[Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2020-12-10 Thread Dave Evans
When the bug occurs, audio from all applications is garbled. I've tested
firefox, zoom, and vlc, and all have garbled audio.

I have had this issue since at least May 2020. At the time I was using
Ubuntu 18.04, and have since upgraded to 20.04

I've reinstalled pulseaudio which has not fixed the issue.

I think it might be related to speech applications interacting strangely
with firefox. Opening zoom links works somewhat consistently, and the
times when firefox spontaneously broke may have been due to discord
running in the background.

[Bug 1906741] [NEW] Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2020-12-03 Thread Dave Evans
Public bug reported:

Opening certain applications/websites at the same time as Firefox causes
the audio to become garbled.

The audio sounds distorted with an echo.

Certain actions are guaranteed to cause this, but it can also happening
when only running instances of Firefox.

I've been able to consistently cause this by launching Zoom from a link within
Firefox.
This does not occur when using Chrome.

The only way to fix the issue is to shut down all audio-related
programs.

2010-05-01 Thread Dave Evans
The only solution i have found was to go here
http://www.youtube.com/html5 and join the Beta. The other problem is
that if you have a YouTube Playlist, when you play the list it reverts
back to Flash.

Im using Ubuntu 64 on a 64 bit processor & I have the same problem..I
usually cave & right click "play in youtube"... Ive also noticed the problem
sometimes occurs in youtube tho, always before vid completely loads, which
makes me wonder if this is an isp speed factor..Mine varies 90-750kbps

If I click on the play button 10 or 15 times moving it ever so slightly
around the same small area it will eventually work but it is very
frustrating. same with the full screen toggle.

Is there a way to also see your Current computer name, and user name so If I am
trying to connect to a Microsoft network I can see my current computer name,
