[Bug 1155879] Re: Freeze when connecting to MailEnable imapd with mutt

2013-03-16 Thread Dave Suffling
** Description changed:

This issue is reproducible on Ubuntu 10.10, 11.10 and 12.10.

When connecting to mailroot3.namespro.ca using IMAPS (SSL), the client
will progress some way through opening a large mailbox, typically
receiving between zero and a few thousand headers, before it hangs in
recv(). The issue is reliably reproducible on a mailbox containing ~2600
  messages.

This issue only occurs when using TLSv1 to connect. Disabling TLSv1 in
muttrc (presumably falling back to SSLv3) or using cleartext IMAP both
  avoid this issue.

Wireshark shows that the most recent data exchange was from the server
  to the client.

- Running nmap(1) suggests the remote mail server is MailEnable imapd.
+ The remote mail server is likely MailEnable 5.53.

(Note, in the attached trace, a connection is being proxied through an
SSH tunnel, so the outgoing connection will appear to go to
localhost:9993. This issue occurs with a direct connection as well.)

In my judgment, this is more likely to be an issue with libgnutls2.6
than mutt.

2009-01-30 Thread Dave Suffling
Thank the Linux gods, I can move my mouse again!

I can confirm this issue, and the solution posted above. (I can
duplicate the bug that way as well.)

Intrepid 6.10 running kernel 2.6.27-9-server.
nVidia 8400gs / Proprietary binary blob 177.82.
Dual monitors, separate X screens, one rotated, Xinerama.

[Bug 275562] [NEW] Global shortcut keys of form Control[any single key] do not work.

2008-09-28 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

Intrepid: Global shortcuts which use Control as their only modifier
key do not work, with some exceptions.

Pressing any such combination twice in rapid succession usually works on
the second press (but not the first).

If the shortcut-registering application has focus, the combination
always works.

QT applications (Amarok, Katapult) and the GNOME Keyboard Shortcuts
control panel are confirmed affected.

This is confirmed to occur with both Compiz and Metacity.

Searching using gconf-editor strongly suggests that conflicting
shortcuts are not registered.

This issue started recently (on or about the 26th of September), and may
be related to a package update.

2008-09-28 Thread Dave Suffling
Filed upstream with GNOME Bugzilla.

This is *probably* a Metacity bug, and not a control center issue, but
I'd imagine the GNOME crew will know better than I do.

[Bug 270193] [NEW] Reported tempurature appears to be incorrect

2008-09-14 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvclock

Using an Asus-branded nVidia EN8400GS (PCI-E), the GPU tempuratures
reported by lm-sensors and nvclock differ substantially. For example,
lm-sensors reports 64 degrees C, while nvclock reports 38 degrees C.
Touching the heatsync on this fanless card suggests that the value
reported by lm-sensors is likely to be correct.

System details:

System is a Core 2 Quad Q6600 with an Asus P5QL-E motherboard. The
EN8400GS is attached via PCI-E.

lspci(8) reports the graphics card to be:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Device 06e4 (rev a1)

Installed graphics driver is nvidia-glx-177 (177.70-0ubuntu2).
Installed NVClock self-reports v0.8 (Beta3). Package version is 0.8b3-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 216661] [NEW] UFW blocks traffic inappropriately

2008-04-13 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ufw

UFW seems to inappropriately block incoming traffic when rules should
allow that traffic.

In the specific configuration in question, traffic for port 37000 is
being blocked as 'INVALID'.

The UFW package in question is ufw 0.16.1 on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
(Development branch).

/var/log/messages contains several entries such as this one:

---
Apr 13 02:31:51 logic kernel: [470939.097911] [UFW BLOCK INVALID]: IN=eth1 OUT=
MAC=00:02:2a:a0:[redacted]:00:13:46:3f:06:12:[redacted]
SRC=71.59.106.[redacted] DST=192.168.0.101 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=113
ID=10501 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=56917 DPT=37000 WINDOW=8192 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
---

This occurs despite having the following rules in the UFW configuration:

---
$ sudo ufw status
Firewall loaded

To Action From
-- --
22:tcp ALLOW Anywhere
22:udp ALLOW Anywhere
Anywhere ALLOW 192.168.0.0/16

37001:tcp ALLOW Anywhere
37001:udp ALLOW Anywhere
37002:tcp ALLOW Anywhere
37002:udp ALLOW Anywhere
---

Traffic for ports 22, 993 is handled correctly.

The following output may or may not be helpful:

[Bug 216661] Re: UFW blocks traffic inappropriately

2008-04-13 Thread Dave Suffling
Testing using a telnet client to attempt TCP connections reveals the following:
 - A remote system cannot connect. The connection appears to be passively
refused.
 - The remote system's IP address appears in /var/log/messages with an
'INVALID' message similar to that given above.
 - Using telnet from the local system succeeds without issue.

[Bug 135688] Installer: insufficient privileges to set the clock when clock not set.

2007-08-29 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

When the Gusty installer detects that the realtime clock (RTC) is not
set, it offers to set it.

Upon selecting this option, the user is told that s/he does not have
sufficient privileges to set system properties.

The installer then hangs, showing only the light tan background, and
mouse pointer.

This occurs when booting from the Gusty Gibbon Alpha-5 Desktop/i386
install CD.

[Bug 135688] Re: Installer: insufficient privileges to set the clock when clock not set.

2007-08-29 Thread Dave Suffling
To duplicate:

1) Set BIOS/RTC time to sometime long before the release (e.g. Midnight, Jan 1,
2000).
2) Boot from Gusty Gibbon (alpha-5) Desktop/i386 install CD.
3) Select start or install Ubuntu
4) When told the RTC isn't set, choose to set the RTC.
5) Symptoms as described above should present.

Tested on an AMD Athlon @ 1000MHz with 1GB DDR RAM; Asus A7N266-VM
motherboard.

[Bug 58716] Automatic collection rebuilds make system completely unusable for minutes or hours without warning

2006-09-03 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

Amarok appears to automatically rebuild it's collection periodically.
Once this process is started, it is *extremely* difficult to stop, and
all other work becomes impossible (because the hard disk is completely
occupied, even running 'ps' from a non-X VT takes up to half a minute.)

The amarokcollectio---? process (which is responsible for this) has a
nice value of '0'. Even increased, the problem persists because of the
hard disk access issue.

** Affects: amarok (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 56475] Re: [Bug 56475] Re: Amarok can't play audio after attempting to play a FLAC file

Pekka Jääskeläinen wrote:
Isn't the inability to play FLACs a bug as-is? I cannot play FLACs (get
the There is no audio channel error) with amarok-xine, but using Xine
 directly, they work...

Yes, that's a bug, but in this case, Amarok goes on to be unable to play
other, non-FLAC tracks, which is a separate (more severe) issue.

[Bug 57789] Amarok skips some tracks without reason

2006-08-26 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

When advancing from the end of one track, amarok will start to play the
next track, but then go on to play the track which follows. This is
detectable because of crossfading, and it known (or just more frequently
noticed) when using queued tracks.

To aid in duplication, my usual usage pattern calls for the 'random'
metaplaylist set to list 50 tracks. I repopulate the list, pick five or
six tracks to queue, then repeat until my queue reaches a good size.

I should add that the effect occurs only some of the time. I haven't
found any rationale as to why some tracks are skipped (skipped tracks
can be requeued and will play the second time they come up.)

[Bug 56475] Amarok can't play audio after attempting to play a FLAC file

2006-08-15 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

When a flac audio file is next in the queue, the following events happen
(in sequence:)

1. An error message is displayed to the effect of:

Error Loading Media
There is no audio channel!

2. Playback is stopped.

3. Attempting to play other, non-FLAC files results in the visualization
working, but no audio output. Amarok must be restarted in order for
audio output to work again.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Queue three tracks, one non-FLAC, then one FLAC, then one non-FLAC.
2. Begin playback
3. Advance to near the end of the first track (or wait)
4. Observe effects 1, 2 as described above
5. Attempt to start playback of the third track by double-clicking
6. Observe effect 4 as desctibed above

This bug effectively makes FLAC files in the library land mines which
must be avoided to prevent the application from entering an effectively
useless state (which is similar in mangitude to a crash, and a great
deal more confusing.)

Using amarok 2:1.4.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 51620] Unexpected behavior when another package manager is open

2006-07-02 Thread Dave Suffling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

If one clicks ok in gnome-app-install to install software, and another
package manager is open, an error is given (which is the correct
behavior), then the program is terminated and all selections are lost
(which is not correct behavior.)

Upon issuing an error, the program should roll back to the state it was
in just before the user clicked ok, giving the user the chance to
close synaptic without punishing the user by forcing them to reopen the
program and reselect the packages to be installed.
