Also the init script fails to restart. I patched that by simply making

But I just installed dante-server on a relatively clean ubuntu 12.04

as the fixed version. I hope it is not a user error, but I really
haven't done anything on this system yet; getting this problem out of

[Bug 1086646] Re: text/x-shellscript doesn't run if text/cloud-boothook present

2012-12-06 Thread DaveQB
Yes actually I did fix that in a later boothook, but this is after I
went with the all-in-one boothook (that injects into rc.local to run a
shell script once network was up)

I see. So messing with the cloud.cfg broke the system. My bad.

Thanks for the time Scott and sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.
That info on making a "preserve-hostname.cfg" and "apt_preserve_sources_list"
file is brilliant!! Exactly what I need. I didn't come across this in docos.
Any links to this to what I have missed reading?

Thanks again Scott.

[Bug 1086646] Re: text/x-shellscript doesn't run if text/cloud-boothook present

2012-12-06 Thread DaveQB
Thanks for the info Scott.

To to clarify, I under you can user hostname in a cloud-config, the
problem I am solving is for autoscaling launch configuration and needing
a common base hostname (for config management purposes and only for
humans to identify) but unique amongst them.

So the host name I am setting is:

prd-myshinnyhostname-ap-southeast-1a-$RANDOM

Which I can't see anyway to do in cloud-config unfortunately, otherwise I would
stick to use that for this autoscale launch config.
I am injecting into /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg to save having to have a cloud-config
file at all. Just lazy maybe, but figured it works best with how I am setting
the hostname (cloud-config hostname is useless for this use case)

So back to the issue, I had the below. The boothook worked but the shell script
didn't touch the file in /etc or the test file.
(the work around I have for now is to just have a boothook, and the boothook
injects into /etc/rc.local the shell script and then adds a line to clean up
after it has run so as to have a one-time run of the shell script. Working well)

I will try your user-data file and report back.

[Bug 1086646] [NEW] text/x-shellscript doesn't run if text/cloud-boothook present

2012-12-04 Thread DaveQB
Public bug reported:

>From my testing, it seems if you have a multipart user-data file that
contains both a boothook and a shell script, the latter will not run. I
have been testing with all sorts of user-data files and only in this
setup (a boothook AND a script) do I see the shell script not run at
all.

This is using the the Amazon Ubuntu 12.04.1 AMI (ami-ac4300fe)

PS
The reason I am at this point is that running "echo myhostname > /etc/hostname"
in the boothook sees it overwritten by cloud-init. Even with a line like this
in the boothook "sed -i 's/preserve_hostname/preserve_hostname: True/g'
/etc/cloud/cloud.cfg" hence I have to add a shell script for this.

Thanks.

2011-04-27 Thread DaveQB
Sorry for the slow response.

"What you are reporting is something else. Can you tell me what the
older version of e2fsck said that it fixed?"

Sorry?

What ver 1.41.3 on Slax 6.1.2 said while fixing the partition/FS?

I didn't see it for my own eyes, but had it read out to me and it was
the usual issues you have and data at inode X does not match etc etc
...fix?

It had a bunch of them. And then some other error which I have seen before but
can not remember right now.
Nothing unusual though.

[Bug 711799] Re: e2fsprogs wrongly identifies ext4 as mounted

2011-04-23 Thread DaveQB
Thanks for the response Theodore.

Yes it was definitely not mounted. I checked /proc/mounts (grep sda1
/proc/mounts), the mount -l command itself and also issued several
umount /dev/sda1 to be sure. (I do have 10 years of Linux experience.)

The output from e2fsck /dev/sda1 was the same as others are having:

e2fsck 1.41.12 (17-May-2010)
fsck.ext4: Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda1
Filesystem mounted or opened exclusively by another program?

Also got this on the SystemRescueCD:

e2fsck 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010)
fsck.ext4: Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda1
Filesystem mounted or opened exclusively by another program?

I did a "equery list|grep e2fsprog" on the systemrescueCD to confirm it
is ver 1.41.14. Maybe Gentoo has missed your upstream patch for this
bug??

I ended up using Slax 6.1.2 with e2fsprogs 1.41.3 to fix the partition
and allow the Ubuntu 10.10 system to boot normally. I couldn't delay to
do any further testing as it was a laptop of a university Lecturer that
had to prepare classes for this week coming (emergency situation).

So maybe I found a new, slightly different bug?

How can one purposely corrupted a FS/journal for testing?

This seems to me as a bug from upstream that is filtering down through
the distro's.

Using Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD's e2fsck from the e2fsprogs package 1,41,12
failed to check an ext4 disk with errors saying the aforementioned
error.

Using a systemrescuecd-x86-2.1.0 CD's e2fsck from the e2fsprogs package
1.41.14 failed to check an ext4 disk with errors saying the
aforementioned error.

Using a Slax 6.1.2 CD's e2fsck from the e2fsprogs package 1.41.3 (2008)
checked and fixed an ext4 disk with errors.

Even though the Slax CD could not mount or do anything with the partition as it
does not have ext4 support.
Go figure.

This leads me to think that this has not been fixed

E2fsprogs 1.41.13 (December 13, 2010) states:
"Fixed a bug in e2fsck where if both the original and backup superblock are
invalid in some way, e2fsck will fail going back to the original superblock
because it didn't close the backup superblock first, and the exclusive open
prevented the file system from being reopened."

Unless Gentoo's e2fsprogs 1.41.14 missed this patch??

I can confirm I have also been hit with this problem.

Ubuntu 10.10 using e2fsprogs 1.41.12
There doesn't seem a clear upgrade path to 1.41.14 due to unsatisfied
dependencies. If anyone knows otherwise I would be happy to hear.

I can confirm that adding:

2010-08-19 Thread DaveQB
John,

Had a look and yes. I am ticking multiple shows to encode.
I am now resorting to using MythFrontend and setting each show up one at a
time. A very slow process if you have 20 shows to do, but it works.

Thanks

2010-06-25 Thread DaveQB
It seems the DB query around like 416 for channame comes back empty. Yet
earlier on line 215 it had it correct.

Why is it accessing the DB again? Seems a lot of doubled up work in this
script, but like I said in the original report, I don't understand it
well enough to follow what it is trying to do and limited commenting
makes it harder to catch up.

[Bug 598439] [NEW] mythexport generates names like ---20100418192800 and thus fails ffmpeg.

2010-06-25 Thread DaveQB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythexport

Running user jobs from myth frontend run, but the same jobs won't run from
mythexport.
By line 230 it has the right name, by line 430 it has lost channame, title,
subtitle and currentstarttime and producs --- as the name which in turn borks
ffmpeg and errors out.

I have logs to show this where I have added some additional logdebug()
lines to help narrow it down but don't understand the script (nor perl)
well enough to work out the problem.

This is still a bug in Kubuntu Hardy.

I fixed it by making a new file type [.docx] in File Types settings in

Can this association not be added to the base Kubuntu system for Ibex ?
Seems a simple fix.

Same here. Didnt happen to me until this morning. But I think this is

In fact, the updates were a bunch of Adept ones (ie 2.1.3ubuntu17

And then right after that was done it announced a new version of Kubuntu.

Just like "The Bruce" I did it hoping it will "sync up".

Its only happened to me once and I believe I have only had updates once;

Same problem here. Both with my upgraded from Dapper 64-bit desktop and
also running the Live Install CD has the same problem.

Frode's suggestion of running from the CL works though.
Shadow exists on the Live Install CD though

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /etc/shadow
-rw-r- 1 root shadow 827 2007-01-07 03:44 /etc/shadow

[Bug 77589] debootstrap can't chroot

2007-01-03 Thread DaveQB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debootstrap

Actually seems a problem with chroot, but not sure what the problem is. See
here:

Code:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt# mke2fs -j /dev/sdc1
mke2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
.
Writing inode tables: done
Creating journal (32768 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done
This filesystem will be automatically checked every 25 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt# mount /dev/sdc1 usb

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt# debootstrap --arch i386 edgy usb file:/mnt/iso/ubuntu

chroot: cannot run command `mount': No such file or directory
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt# echo $?
127
I read somewhere on my searches that exit code 127 for chroot means it could
not find the command. So I tested out chroot on its own, on a random directory.

Code:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt# chroot /var/chroot/
chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': No such file or directory
Its an empty dir.

I tried running debootstrap but using sid and a sid http URL and it started
worked fine.

This is an Kubuntu Edgy amd64 system.

PS I tried following the many 32bit chroot tutorials out there, similiar
results.

[Bug 37696] Re: adept does not show wanted user input

2006-12-20 Thread DaveQB
Maybe also hook into CPU usage, being that installing a package(s) often
peaks the CPU.

Just a thought.

[Bug 66307] Re: After upgrading to KDE 3.5.5 USB pen drives doesn't mount automatically

2006-11-30 Thread DaveQB
I have this problem, but it happened 'out of the blue' with no KDE
upgrading, nor system dist-upgrading.

KDE 3.5.4
Kubuntu 6.06
