[Bug 554433] Re: [LUCID] cd/dvd not recognized

2010-04-05 Thread David Bentley
Did updates and allowed it to update the three UDEV packages and the
NON-MOUNTING behavior returned so I downgraded just the main package
using dpkg -i udev_151-5_i386.deb and normal mounting behavior returned
immediately so I closed the system down and re-booted and tested the
mounting behavior with both CD's an DVD's and all was OK.

[Bug 554433] Re: [LUCID] cd/dvd not recognized

2010-04-03 Thread David Bentley
Also fails for me most of the time.

System twin XEON @ 2.8Gig with 4Gig of ram on an INTEL SE7505VB2
running fully updated 10.04 i386 installed from Beta1 and my DVD re-
writer is a Pioneer DVR-112 with firmware version 1.28

After a fresh boot disks will sometimes get mounted but on ejecting the
disk the drive tray will sometimes go straight back in and their is disk
activity after the solid light as the disk spins up but less than when
it was first mounted and this time it doesn't mount at all but it does
eject OK

The eject behavior is the same if either pushing the drives eject button
or right clicking and ejecting.

I will attach some relevant logs after a fresh boot

[Bug 554433] Re: [LUCID] cd/dvd not recognized

2010-04-03 Thread David Bentley
Just booted into 10.04 Beta1 and created a boot-able usb stick to test
if the problem existed in Beta1.

Booted from the usb stick and all is fine CD's show on the desktop and
open automatically displaying their contents as expected and they eject
and re-mount OK.

So the problem has come as an update post Beta1 which has udev 151-5 but
rather a lot of updates have occurred since Beta1 and I only have the
live Beta1 i386 CD so I cant put udev 151-5 back to test if this was the
culprit for the non mounting behavior seen now.

[Bug 554433] Re: [LUCID] cd/dvd not recognized

2010-04-03 Thread David Bentley
I have downloaded ubuntu-10.04-beta1-alternate-i386.iso and extracted the
following udev packages
libgudev-1.0-0_151-5_i386.deb, libudev0_151-5_i386.deb, udev_151-5_i386.deb and
used dpkg -i to downgrade and on reboot the system behaves normally i.e CD's
and DVD's mount and unmount correctly.

[Bug 546373] Re: [LUCID] CD tray close automatically after eject

2010-03-28 Thread David Bentley
I have the same problem and I am using a fully updated Lucid i386
install the drive in my machine is a Pioneer DVR-112.

The first time after boot you put any media in the drive it is seen and
is shown on the desktop and on ejecting the tray goes back in again the
dis is detected and some activity is seen but nothing is seen on the
desktop and if you are looking in /media the drive goes away.

All was OK when I was running a fully updated Alpha3 install but I am
not certain if it ever worked since the Beta1 install or only failed
since the latest kernel update.

I will boot into the previous kernel ans see if any behavior alters and
report back.

[Bug 546373] Re: [LUCID] CD tray close automatically after eject

2010-03-28 Thread David Bentley
Since the updates of yesterday the behavior has changed in that nothing
put in the Pioneer DVR-112 now mounts when booted with either -16 or -17
kernel all that happens is you see a solid activity light as the disk
spins up then a brief pause before a flashing activity light and when
this stops instead of the disc in the drive being mounted the drive just
disappears from Computer and on attempting to eject the disk instead of
ejecting it just goes though the spin-up and read cycle when the eject
button on the drive is pressed but if you press it a second time after
the disk activity ceases it eject OK an the drive re-appears in
computer.

In the past I have seen this problem before on another distribution
about 2 years ago and I think UDEV was the culprit for the failure then.

I have booted the same hardware into what is normally used (Fully
updated 8.04) and the drive performs as expected.

Checking what has been updated since the install of Beta1 in
/var/cache/apt/archive/ i can see we have had updates to the following
packages which might also have caused this bug

gvfs
mount
nautilus
uuid-runtime
udev --- (reported against)
udisks

I have had the same message displayed for a system using an AMD K6 III

Daily build of 08/08/08 had the same problem.

The system is running a fully updated 8.04 at present and has no problem
with any past or current kernel for 8.04

8.04.1 has no problem when run in live mode either.

I am now watching this bug so could test with alpa4 or a later daily if

[Bug 194953] Re: gnome-system-monitor resources graphs unstable on window resize

2008-03-22 Thread David Bentley
I am seeing this problem now on a fresh fully updated install of
8.08-beta i386 desktop running in the current virtualbox which uses the
vesa video driver.

Virtualbox is allocated 500megs of system memory on my twin xeon intel
se7505vb2 server with 4gigs of ram and with an ATI 9800 Pro graphics
card (all of which probably is not important)

The screen graphic is not drawn to the correct width of the black
background that is drawn for it to occupy.

[Bug 194953] Re: gnome-system-monitor resources graphs unstable on window resize

2008-03-22 Thread David Bentley
Having looked at a previous screen shot the problem I am seeing is
probably different to what was originally reported and may need to be
reported as a separate bug report.

I will wait a day or so and check this bug regularly before doing so.
