[Bug 1888186] Re: LibreOffice Writer unusably slow

2021-10-15 Thread David Chart
Since this got updated: the bug persisted until 21.04, at which point it
disappeared, but seemed to be coming back in the last patches to 21.04
(and affecting Calc, this time). I have only just upgraded to 21.10, so
I cannot comment on its current status.

[Bug 1888186] Re: LibreOffice Writer unusably slow

2020-08-05 Thread David Chart
* As originally described, it usually starts to lag within one minute of
usage, although not usually from the first character typed.

* When I changed to 19.10. This involved a clean install on a new
machine and moving my home folder over, rather than an upgrade.

* As originally described, it does not appear to affect spreadsheets,
and appears to affect any document with more than a page or so of
content. It seems to be particularly bad with italic text. (I've tried
changing the font, but that doesn't seem to help.)

[Bug 1888186] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer unusably slow

2020-07-20 Thread David Chart
Public bug reported:

LibreOffice Writer lags by several seconds per keypress when typing in a
document of more than a page or so. This does not always start
immediately, but normally begins within a couple of lines of text, and
also affects text deletion.

The bug does not seem to affect Calc.

Also, when I installed Writer alone through Synaptic, without any gnome
integration at all, the problem didn't seem to arise, although it looks
hideous, so that is not an ideal solution. Removing user preferences did
not fix the problem, however.

Obviously, this bug does not affect everyone, because it would have been
reported already. I hope the apport data provides enough information to
pin the problem down.

[Bug 223555] [NEW] Keyboard non-functional after upgrade to 08.04

2008-04-28 Thread David Chart
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 08.04, the keyboard does not work under GNOME. I have
a Aluminium iMac, so the keyboard layout is Macintosh. Most keys do
nothing; 7-8-9-0 and the keys vertically beneath them function as a
numeric keypad.

Obviously, this makes the machine unusable, and it *is* a production
machine.

The keyboard works fine on the gdm login screen, and in the failsafe
terminal. It does not work in failsafe GNOME, and attempts to change the
keyboard layout and get something that would allow me to type letters
have failed. The keyboard *does* work as expected in a live session
booted from the 08.04 release CD. I upgraded from 07.10 using the Update
Manager; no configuration clashes were reported for the keyboard. (I had
to modify the alsa-base file to get sound working, so that clashed.)

X server reports an error trying to load the keyboard layout. It asks me
to include the following information:

Output of xprop -root | grep XKB:
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = xorg, pc105, us, mac, lv3:ralt_switch

Output of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/:

OK, I've fixed this by moving .gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard

Sound on the iMac wasn't fixed in Hardy Beta, but the (separate) bug for

The two options you suggested did nothing, but Method I on the wiki
page, that is, adding:

So, there are still problems with sound, but it is more-or-less working.

Yes, I tested rhythmbox with MP3s under Gutsy. As I recall I did install

2007-11-30 Thread David Chart
They didn't work, which is why I complained at this point. As long as
the bug was open against one component, there wasn't a serious problem,
but that's no longer the case.

If iMac is another problem altogether, the bug reporting that should be
de-duplicated from this one. As long as all the sound problems with the
Intel card are being put into this bug, this bug is not yet fixed.

[Bug 147087] Re: No sound on Aluminium iMac

2007-10-01 Thread David Chart
All the above results are from an i386 install, which has the same
problems as the AMD64 install with sound. I don't have an AMD64 install
at the moment, and don't have time to redo it right now. If you really
need it, I might be able to get round to it in a week or so.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 147087] No sound on Aluminium iMac

2007-09-30 Thread David Chart
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.10 Beta, AMD 64, on a 20 Aluminum iMac. There is no sound from
Totem or Rhythmbox, although they otherwise seem to be working
correctly. There is no sound at all, so I suspect that this is a more
fundamental problem.
