[Bug 665534] [NEW] Add option to install all updates without confirmation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager This option is really missing for machines of not-exactly-computer- literate people, who never run updates by hand. I suspect that my father's previous Ubuntu system has deteriorated because of this, therefore I was really pissed of that Lucid LTS can't do that either. Please add this option to update-manager and backport it to Lucid, so computers like my father's one can be up-to date! ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Add option to install all updates without confirmation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665534 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 485370] [NEW] g-p-m doesn't show enough information
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager See the Bug #462267. Now with battstat applet gone, its features should be added to g-p-m so that user comfort is not harmed. g-p-m shows only icon in status area. The icon can express only limited amount of information and even then it is not used to its full potential. Now the icon can show only battery states (external power only, battery charging, battery charged, battery with high/low/very low/critically low remaining capacity discharging). Precise information is displayed in tooltip only. That means that user needs to get used to interrupt regularly work on some battery, move the cursor to the icon, wait for tooltip to appear, read the information and then to resume work. All of this must be often done with integrated pointing devices that are much slower and much more precise than regular mouse. I request these features to be added to g-p-m's UI to fix mentioned usability flaw: 1) add a keyboard shortcut that would display notification bubble with actual power state (and let know about it in tooltip, g-p-m settings or another place that is likely to be visited by plain user) 2) icon modification so it displays actual charge in analog way. The battery inside of Humanity g-p-m icon on my computer is 11 px high so it should drop 1 px for every 100/11 = 9 discharged percents of capacity. (And of course rise for every 9 % recharged.) 3) option to display remaining time or percents permanently 4) option to show large battery in style of battstat's two icons mode or in style of Lenovo's Battery MaxiMiser gauge (see attachments) ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- g-p-m doesn't show enough information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 485404] [NEW] NM is not aware about wireless radio power status
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager NM in 9.10 is not aware about wi-fi power state changes on my hardware. When I kill radio with fn-key combination, it only recognizes that the network was disconnected but it doesn't know the cause so it tries unsuccesfully to restore the connection (resulting in annoying wireless network properties pop-up window) and many unsuccesful scans. This is regression from earlier versions of Ubuntu, where NM recognized the radio state and disabled wireless after it was turned off (and enabled again after turn on). ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NM is not aware about wireless radio power status https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 350150] [NEW] Don't create thumbnails of files on slow fs's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I uses sometimes obexfs to get files from my phone to computer via IRDa. This has one feature - any file transfer is very slow, roughly few kB/s. When I open some directory on such fs in Nautilus, it tries to download every file in folder causing double transfer of every file - once for thumbnailing it and second time for actual download. Side effect is also freezing it's UI. Nautilus should prevent something to do this. I could imagine two approaches: 1) blacklist potentially slow fs's. Apart from obexfs, remote fs's can have unpredictable speed and also removable fs's connected throught slow interfaces, like USB 1.1 2) check if getting file for thumbnailing doesn't take too long time. If it does, stop making thumbs of files in that particular directory It would also be nice if thumbnailing run asynchronously, so that any problem here wouldn't cause UI freeze. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Don't create thumbnails of files on slow fs's https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346649] [NEW] Make suspend to disk dumb-proof
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support When hibernating, Ubuntu does nothing to make sure to boot next time the same kernel. It can lead to loss of data if incorrect kernel is booted. In my opinion, Ubuntu should make temporary changes to grub configuration that would - disable menu - set up timeout to some sensible value (not to waste time but leave space for corrections if something goes wrong) - make running kernel image option default (either through save default or explicitly stating it) and revert these changes after waking up of course. [Bug 294972] Re: MASTER: xorg high cpu usage, general system sluggishness
Bryce, it would be nice, if you could point us how to find out causes of problems. In my case situation is like this: any normal redrawing (not involving xv overlay) means that X CPU consumption goes up. It doesn't matter, if Firefox, Opera, gnome-terminal or OpenOffice want to redraw something or I just move to another virtual desktop, in all cases the desktop goes unresponsive for a while and X takes every CPU cycle it can. It's biggest pain in OpenOffice, which can't normally scroll due to this behaviour, but it's inconvenient in other programs too. [Bug 268296] [NEW] Network-manager-called processes lack information about their state
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I'm using unreliable wi-fi connections heavily last time. Much too often happens, that NM can't establish connection in situations, where just manual running of wpa_supplicant and dhclient can. Many times is the trouble, that * NM doesn't pause the establishing connection timeout while link is down * dhclient isn't aware, when link is down and doesn't delay sending packets to the times, when link is up Apart from network-manager, problem can be also in dhclient not paying attention to the actual state of underlying layers. In attached log, you can clearly see, that DHCPDISCOVERs are sent when wpa_supplicant reports, that supplicant's state is 0 and link therefore isn't available. Re: [Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery
Keenan Pepper napsal(a): So, let me get this straight. When the state changes from AC → battery → AC, or from battery → AC → battery, g-p-m should forget the temporary setting and use the permanent one from GConf. However, when the state changes from busy → idle → busy, g-p-m should remember the temporary setting. This is sensible but still not enough IMO. Imagine you're working on unstable power network and/or have bad contact in your power supply. AC/battery status changes then pretty frequently and display brightness blinks accordingly. So g-p-m should also 1) check, if this event isn't too soon after previous one and if it is, change setting back to temporary one 2) if there are more frequent changes, take conservative approach at swithing backlight (change brightness after some sensible timeout) -- Backlight no longer under my control on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
