[Bug 1018377] Re: segfault in libc-2.15.so

2013-08-23 Thread David Lublink
I tried -x 32768 and ntop still failed. I think ntop lasted an extra
15 minutes this time. It might be a resource leak?

[Bug 387069] Re: incorrect filesystem permissions prevent nagios command checking from working

2012-07-11 Thread David Lublink
A much easier fix to this button is to add www-data to the nagios group.

I did it by editing /etc/group and added www-data to the line starting
with nagios.

I restarted apache, and the error is gone.

[Bug 954125] [NEW] Unable to connect to DAAP shares with password

2012-03-13 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

When I try and connect to a DAAP share ( shown when I open rhythmbox
with a padlock in front of the folder icon ), it stays on Connecting to
music share in the status bar.

If I right click on the share and select 'DISCONNECT', it says Could
not connect to shared music - Authorization RequiredHTTP/1.1 200 ok.

This is NOT a duplicate of #230583 as that ticket is for Ubuntu 8.04.

This is a REGRESSION because it worked on 10.04.

[Bug 816287] Re: Asterisk UDP socket leak

2011-08-10 Thread David Lublink
I believe this bug describes asterisk bug #17255 :
https://issues.asterisk.org/view.php?id=17255

It would seem that after some SIP calls, udp sockets are not closed.

If left running too long, you may see the following in asterisk's log (
a few million times a minute ) :

[2011-08-09 09:20:02.775] ERROR[5081] res_timing_timerfd.c: Read error: Bad
file descriptor

[2011-08-09 09:20:02.775] DEBUG[5081] res_timing_timerfd.c: Expected to
acknowledge 1 ticks but got 0 instead

The resource exhaustion eventually leads to Asterisk being unable to
function as it will either run out of UDP sockets or return errors about
open files.

root@ast-1:/var/log/asterisk# lsof | grep asterisk | grep UDP | wc
1211089 11004

It has 121 sockets open, but only one call in progress.

Running asterisk : Connected to Asterisk 1.6.2.5-0ubuntu1.4 currently
running on pri1 (pid = 5132)

[Bug 818335] [NEW] Blank password is invalid on unlock screen

2011-07-29 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

This bug is related to #439068.

When running 10.04 LTS desktop with multiple users and user switching,
if a password protected account is logged on and a guest user with no
password is logged on. From the password protected account I select the
guest account ( in the power button icon menu top right ), the locked
screen window from gnome-screensaver appears. It does not accept the
blank password.

Work around :
1. Select switch user
2. Select guest user from GDM window, blank password is accepted.

This is different from the mentioned ticket as I am not using auto login
and am switching between password protected accounts and the guest
account.

[Bug 818337] [NEW] Multi-session desktop, network connection down

2011-07-29 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Using a default installation of 10.04 LTS ( with ubuntu-restricted-
extras, amsn, skype, thunderbird ). I have 3 users. Account1, Account2
and guest.

1. Account1 logs on
2. Connect to wifi using nm-applet ( wifi icon )
3. Account1 leaves computer
4. Screensaver comes on
5. Account2 logs on ( switch user from lock screen )
6. Account2 DOES NOT HAVE nm-applet icon ( because it is already active on
account1's session
7. Account1 logs off the computer
8. Account2 still does not have access to wifi, but internet is now
disconnected because Account1's session is ended

Problem :
1. nm-applet is not available to account2

Solution :
1. nm-applet should be launched on the current session when it is closed on the
first session

Work around :
1. Account2 logs off, ( loses all any windows that were open ) , logs back on
and nm-applet is working

2011-04-06 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS
Release:8.04

I believe this bug to be in the package PAM.

To reproduce :

1. Create a new user ( useradd -m funuser )
2. Change user's shell to ( /bin/scponly, the shell is purposefully invalid )
3. Set a password ( passwd funuser )
4. Try and log in using SSH

What happens ( tail /var/log/auth.log ) :
Apr 6 09:16:35 ubuntu1 sshd[8593]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication
failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=ipaddress user=funuser
Failed password for invalid user funuser from ipaddress port 53393 ssh2

What should happen ( tail /var/log/auth.log ) :
Apr 6 09:16:35 ubuntu1 sshd[8593]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication
failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=ipaddress user=funuser
Invalid shell for user funuser from ipaddress port 53393 ssh2

The error message given in auth.log is entirely useless and a useful
message is only available if pam_unix has the debug parameter added to
it.

** Affects: pam (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 689895] [NEW] README.Debian is inconsistent with examples in system functionality

2010-12-13 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifenslave-2.6

README.debian in ifenslave-2.6 on ubuntu 10.04 LTS server found in
/usr/share/doc/ifenslave-2.6.

The instructions in the file are different than how the system works.
Additionnally, if you compare the examples to the README, you'll notice
sometimes a minus sign being used and sometimes an underscore.

bond_primary in README.debian and bond-primary in
examples/two_hotplug_ethernet

Neither example worked on my ubuntu. I finally got my cards bonded with
the following in /etc/network/interfaces :

auto bond1
iface bond1 inet static
address 192.168.42.10
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.42.1
dns-nameservers 192.168.42.1
bond-mode 1
slaves eth2 eth3

The documentation here : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding
says that the page is out of date and does not work with Ubuntu 10.04.

What you need to do :

Verify the documentation in the said directory, and correct it to
reflect how Ubuntu 10.04 LTS works.

I will edit the documentation on the wiki
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding ). Please verify that
my edits are ok.

I also got this error message. In the ubuntu-vm-builder, I had --
hostname 'test-vm' , I changed it to --hostname 'testvm' and the
problem disappears. So I believe the issue has to do with the minus sign
in the hostname parameter.

[Bug 663455] [NEW] Incorrect text found in openssh-client/auth-file.c:542

2010-10-19 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

install the openssh-client source code, look at auth-file.c and see this
stanza :

int
key_perm_ok(int fd, const char *filename)
{
 struct stat st;

 if (fstat(fd, st)  0)
  return 0;
 /*
  * if a key owned by the user is accessed, then we check the
  * permissions of the file. if the key owned by a different user,
  * then we don't care.

error(It is recommended that your private key files are NOT
accessible by others.);
  error(This private key will be ignored.);
  return 0;
 }
 return 1;
}

The text It is recommended that your private key files are NOT accessible by
others. should read It is not permitted.

There is no work around to use a non-protected private key, therefore it
is incorrect to say recommend.

[Bug 660028] [NEW] roundcube might need php-mdb2-driver-mysql

2010-10-13 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: roundcube

I installed roundcube :

apt-get install roundcube

Bug 1 :

What I did :
During the install process it asked me the database type, I chose MySQL.

What happened :
The config tool assumed mysql was on the same machine and tried to connect
through a local unix socket

What should have happened :
The config tool should ask if the server is local or not.

Suggest 1 :
When the config tool automatically setup the roundcube account, it used the
hostname and domain name in the grant request. It should have asked me to
confirm if the server address ( 'myserver.domain.tld' ) was ok

Bug 2 :
Once installed, the software was stuck on DATABASE ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED.
Error 603 in errors.inc

Solution :

I installed During the install process it asked me the database type, I
installed php-mdb2-driver-mysql. Once php-mdb2-driver-mysql was
installed, the software worked properly.

Note :
I had to restart apache after I installed the package, I don't know if this is
a bug in the package or a result of the above difficulties, please check the
install process.

[Bug 575379] [NEW] gnome-terminal paste fails on new install

2010-05-04 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When I fresh install Lucid Lynx, I run a gnome-terminal. I copy text
from another program, switch to gnome-terminal and hit 'SHIT+CTRL+V' and
the text is not pasted. I either have to use the right click mouse
button or the PASTE option from the EDIT menu.

[Bug 575388] [NEW] screen focus incorrect when switching windows

2010-05-04 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

I am running dual head 1680x1050 on each of the two screens.

xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-1 --left-of VGA-0

Steps to reproduce bug :
1. Open two windows
2. Position one window to the left screen
3. Position second window to the right screen
4. Windows should be unmaximized
5. Maximize the window on the right screen ( double click on blue bar )
6. Unmaximize the window on the right screen ( double click )
7. Drag window on left screen ( click and hold left button once on blue bar )

What should happen :
The window on the left screen should move around

What actually happens :
The cursor moves the window on the right screen, so the window moves around
without the cursor being anywhere near it.

I can consistently reproduce this bug, I have had this bug since I first
install Alpha 2 Lucid. I have fresh installed the Stable release that
came out on April 29th. The bug is still present.

Notes :

1. I am using the Clearlooks theme ( blue/gray + control buttons to the top
right of window )
2. Visual effects were turned off using Appearance Preferences = Visual
Effects = None
3. This sometimes happens on my laptop which has a single screen 1024x768, I
will try and provide steps to reproduce on single screen as soon as I can
4. The ATI dual head card does not seem to recognize my card can do dual
1680x1050, so I have used this command xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050. As
long as I don't play video on the right side of the right screen, it works
well. I don't play games , so I do not know if 3D works.

[Bug 575393] [NEW] ati dual head high resolution

2010-05-04 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils

xrandr does not detect that it can do dual 1680x1050 for office tasks on
my ATI video card.

It normally sees VGA-1 as being limited to 1360x768.

I can get both screns to a higher resolution using this command :
xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1680x1050
xrandr --output VGA-1 --left-of VGA-0

Although Video does not work well on the right screen at this
resolution, normal office tasks ( spreadsheet, firefox, terminal,
solitaire etc... ) all work very well.

Therefore I believe that a bug exists in the detection of supported
resolutions on my video card.

This applies to Lucid Lynx. Any earlier Ubuntu can not handle the above
resolutions on my video cards. It would be nice if you fixed the
resolution detection.

[Bug 502217] [NEW] eMachine is at end of list

2010-01-01 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: keytouch

1. Launch keyTouch 2.3 from System=Preferences menu
2. Open Keyboard tab
3. click Change
4. Follow prompts

What happens :
eMachine is at the every end of the list

What should happen :
eMachine should appear between EasyTouch and EzKey

I understand that upper and lower case are not equivalent, but end users
will be really confused by this and will not think to look at the end of
the list. The sort of the brands should be case-insensitive

[Bug 501450] [NEW] Getting help with ubuntu does not change

2009-12-29 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 1 and tried to install it on an IBM t43.
While watching the tips pane of the installer, I noticed that the last
pane Getting Help with Ubuntu and finishes with The installation will
finish soon. We hope you enjoy ubuntu. stay on for about 40 minutes of
the installation. It came on near 40 % and never changed.

The installation was started at 15h00 EST and as of this ticket was at
84% ( configuring target system ).

The tips pane should continue to rotate or the times should be longer,
but it is hard to estimate ahead of time the installation time, so maybe
just keep rotating the panes until you hit 90% installed ?

[Bug 501456] Re: 31 seconds boot time on 10.04 alpha 1

2009-12-29 Thread David Lublink
30 seconds counts from when I manually ubuntu in the grub menu ( hit
enter ) and when I can click the firefox button and it reacts in a
reasonable time. As soon as I clicked firefox, I stopped counting.
Firefox than takes a moment to load, but this does not count in the 30
seconds.

This is in accordance with the plans to have 10 seconds to usable
desktop.

Btw, I am on 8.04, 30 seconds is pretty good time for a boot up! Keep up
the good work!

[Bug 501465] [NEW] Unable to play mp3, even if I use search for codecs

2009-12-29 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I clean install ubuntu and run rhythbox to play songs from itunes
share ( from synology disk station ), it tells me about licensing
restrictions, but it correctly finds the mp3 codec. It installs it, but
rythmbox would not play the mp3s immediately. I had to restart rythmbox
for the mp3s to play.

The codec finder in rythmbox should automatically restart rythmbox or at
least advise the user that it must be restarted in order for the new
codecs to work.

[Bug 254752] Re: Dual boot Ubuntus cause out of date grub/menu.lst

2009-03-23 Thread David Lublink
This is in fact NOT a duplicate issue. The issue I have raised is when
dual booting different versions of ubuntu, each version creates it's own
/boot directory + contents, and the MBR usually points to the OS that
was installed second. When the first OS has an upgrade, it updates
/boot/menu.lst on it's own partition and does not appear in Grub because
Grub points to the second partition.

I do not know if this is a bug or wish list, but perhaps when installing
a second version of ubuntu on the same machine it should offer to reuse
/boot of the first installation ?

[Bug 341478] [NEW] Updates on a space limited device fail with No space left on device

2009-03-11 Thread David Lublink
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 from Alpha 5 CD to a 3.3G device. It happens
often that there are updates and halfway through the updates I get an
error No Space left on device. It is true that there is no space left,
but it should calculate this BEFORE it upgrades.

Here is what I noticed, if I install a package it says this :

Need to get 1693kB of archives.
After this operation, 6046kB of additional disk space will be used.

Obviously apt is calculating the disk space, but I believe the problem
is that it ignores the fact that while the packages are installing, we
are using disk space for both the packages AND the extracted files.

When calculating disk space, you must remember :
 1. Size of packages ( that seems fine )
 2. Total size of installation ( not calculated as a different to the
downloaded package )
 3. Any temporary files to be created
 4. Space for both versions of a package during an upgrade.

Once this is done, it is important to verify that there is enough space.

What do you think?

Thanks

including intrepid. If you need more info, please let me know.

Edit: When I connect a usb mouse it works instantly, but the touchpaad
remains dead. I have tried disabling and enabling the device several
times with a dedicated button, to no avail

[Bug 329229] Re: Touchpad on HP Compaq nx7010 does not work

2009-02-24 Thread David Lublink
Hello,

The same thing is happening on my HP Compaq NC6000 laptop. The touchpad
+ 4 mouse buttons ( 2 from touch pad and 2 from nub mouse ). do not
work. In my case the nub mouse works fine, but the keys associated with
it ( which are on the same circuit as the touch pad ) do not work.

Running Hardy, the touch pad works most of the time, occassionally it
stops working and has the same symptoms as above.

From startup of Hardy :
[ 52.260664] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 5.9, id: 0x1b6eb1, caps:
0xa84793/0x10
[ 52.303946] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input6
