Same problem for me, exactly.

Dell XPS14z (external monitor is using the DisplayPort output of my
GeForce GT 520M).

Just to confirm, I get the exact same behaviour when the external screen
is placed to the left. The external display pans to duplicate the
desktop of the built in display. Also, maximising windows causes the
window to span across both monitors.

[Bug 790604] Re: after installation, nm reports eth0 as a not managed network device

2011-10-24 Thread DavidWhyte
I believe that this may still be an issue with the mini.iso image. I
installed 11.10 to my Dell mini 9, using the mini.iso image and used a
wired connection to download the install packages etc. Afterwards, my
/etc/network/interfaces config had eth0 listed and nm was unable to
manage the connection.

I removed the eth0 lines from the config file, restarted the network-
manager service and everything seemed to work much better.

FTR, I initially noticed I had a problem because my netbook would show
messages indicating that it was 'waiting for network connection' during
bootup.

Cheers!

[Bug 411397] [NEW] new netbook-launcher is segfaulting

2009-08-10 Thread DavidWhyte
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

Having applied all Karmic updates, I received the latest UNR packages.
On reboot, netbook-launcher crashed, so I alt+F2'd to a terminal and
restarted again.

On this reboot, the launcher is shown, but it is not as per the screen
shots I have seen. I have attached a screen shot.

I noticed that certain actions with the launcher cause it to disappear.
When run from a terminal, it appears to be a segfault. Below is the
output from removing a favorite. I have checked I have the latest
packages.

Furthermore, I run approx on my Ubuntu server to cache packages which
can then be used across my LAN machines. I have to manually add all the
entries to the Third Party Software tab and untick all the checkboxes in
the Ubuntu Software tab.

It would be better if I could manually enter the hostname and port to
'Download from:' drop-box.

I think this is all packaged in software-properties, so adding that in
the affects list.

[Bug 109184] Re: KTorrent crashed without warning (fixed upstream)

2007-05-03 Thread DavidWhyte
I too get this running KTorrent under Ubuntu (Gnome).

Running from the command prompt I get...

I need to run with DHT and so to help my downloads continue through the
night, I run ktorrent in a script, which automagically restarts it when
it dissappears. It is attached for other people assistance. Just run
the script 'restartKTorrent' instead of 'ktorrent'.

[Bug 110999] Can't enter mythtv-setup without stopping backend

2007-04-29 Thread DavidWhyte
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-backend

Loving the new official packages but

Before I upgraded to the official mythtv packages for feisty, I could
run setup from the command line and got the warning that the backend was
still running, however, I still had the option to enter setup, which was
good just to look at the values etc. With the new packages, there was a
prompt shown, however, I had to shutdown the BE to enter setup, which I
couldn't do at that time.

Is it possible to change this to a 'yes', 'no', 'cancel' type question.

Cheers :)

** Affects: mythtv (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 101918] Re: [apport] package hotkey-setup failed to install/upgrade:

2007-04-23 Thread DavidWhyte
I can confirm that I see the same as Jonah after upgrading from Edgy to
Feisty-final on my desktop machine.

Update Manager is still showing that one hotkey-setup package as needing
to be upgraded.

A clean install onto my laptop does not show this error.

(Possibly unrelated but the upgrade seemed to crash halfway through
setting up all ~1300 or so packages and I had to restart Update Manager.
I think the above happened before the upgrade crashed though. Lucky for
me, the rest of the upgrade seems to have worked)

I had this crash in the clean up stage after I confirmed to remove some
obsolete packages

Error trace nearly identical to the one above.

[Bug 52649] Re: VIA IRQ quirk changes in 2.6.15-26.44 have broken various VIA devices

2006-09-11 Thread DavidWhyte
Hi,

It has been a while since there were any updates to this bug and also it
is yet to be triaged. Given Ben suggested staying with the 386 kernel I
am curious as to when a new version will be available without the sound
issues.

Are there any ideas?

Cheers,
Whytey

[Bug 52649] Re: After installing the latest Linux kernel with Update Manager, Gnome start not normal.

2006-08-05 Thread DavidWhyte
I got a newer revision of the same kernel-image as it seemed to have
been up-rev'd for the upcoming point release of Dapper.

I believe this bug should be a show-stopper to the release of Dapper.1
as from what I have read above it will cause issues for all those with
Via boards.

I am sure many people will have waited for the point release before
upgrading (for stability reasons) and to upgrade and get this kernel
would be disastorous. It is much harder to roll back to a good kernel
when doing a dist-upgrade or having done a fresh install.

[Bug 52649] Re: After installing the latest Linux kernel with Update Manager, Gnome start not normal.

2006-08-02 Thread DavidWhyte
When you can get past the login splash screen (as I frequently can) the
PC is very sluggish, whilst the sounds are doing the repeating effect.

If you leave the PC a while to finish repeating the noise, I find that
most of the time I am able to play audio normally (i.e. watch TV, listen
to MP3's, or adjust the Sound theme from System Preferences Sound).

If a recording of the repeating sounds is required let me know and I
will upload it.

And for the record, I am using a Jetway V2DP motherboard.

Also, I notice that there is what appears to be a duplicate - bug#53207.

[Bug 52649] Re: After installing the latest Linux kernel with Update Manager, Gnome start not normal.

2006-07-30 Thread DavidWhyte
I just updated from Breezy to Dapper and have come across this issue.
The Dapper upgrade has installed the 2.6.15.26-386 kernel image and
since then, the computer is almost unusable at initial bootup and the
Ubuntu drums continually repeat.

Once the repeating stops, the PC returns to normal performance (AFAIK),
however, sound is now unusable.

I have a VIA KM266Pro chipset with a VIA VT8235 South Bridge. Audio is all
onboard. The motherboard user manual states the audio specifications as:
- AC'97 Digital Audio Controller integrated,
- AC'97 Audio CODEC on board.

Since this is my first Dapper kernel, I am unable to revert to the most
recent kernel as for me this is 2.6.12.10 and is likely incompatible
with Dapper.
