[Bug 754713] Re: Workspace Switcher icon chould change highlighted area

2011-04-16 Thread Davide Lasagna
I agree with the OP, I myself wanted t report about this missing
feature.

The main point is that with the current behavior of unity you do not
know where you are, and you have to try changing workspace or do the
expo to understand it.

Cheers,

Davide

[Bug 697230] [NEW] Huawei e1800 internet key does not work

2011-01-04 Thread Davide Lasagna
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I don't know if `linux` is the right package for this bug report, so please
change as needed.
I have a Huawei e1800 dongle correctly working under latest maverick updates.
Under ubuntu 11.04, latest updates, instead, it does not work.

I plug in the key, i setup a new mobile connection with network-manager
applet which appears in the applet menu. When i click on the connection,
it tries to connect but if fails.

I attach logs showing debugging information. The last parts of the logs
are more interesting.

Please let me know if i should provide anything else.

Cheers

Davide

[Bug 687407] [NEW] indicator-network is too crowded

In my opinion the network indicator is too crowded, because it mixes
networks and options. I understand that having lost the right/left

to clearly separate options from networks.

[Bug 597564] [NEW] lucid lynx memory leak?

2010-06-23 Thread Davide Lasagna
Public bug reported:

Hi, i've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit over a working KK 32bit
install. I've noticed high memory usage consumption.

Example: i have gnome desktop, no apps. Command free says that i'm using
540 Mb while before i was far below 200 Mb. Please note that i'm
considering the active memory, no cache.

Example 2: no x server running, logged from tty, i have 200 MB usage,
while i had around 50 Mb with KK.

The problem is that i cannot understand which process is using all that
memory, Here is the output of ps -eF, after gnome login. in this case
free says i'm using about 540 Mb.

I've read about a bug in ureadahead, which was not releasing memory
after a reprofiling. However i've used the suggestion reported somewhere
in launchpad to release that memory. The number given above were
obtained after this command

echo 1|sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/buffer_size_kb

which actually released about 300 Mb.

However the problem still persist after this.

Cheers

Davide

[Bug 527969] Re: restore window by dragging the titlebar is buggy

2010-06-03 Thread Davide Lasagna
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

  Karmic Koala

  Steps to reproduce the problem:

  1) maximize one of the windows on your desktop.
  2) place the cursor somewhere on the titlebar, click and drag it away from
the top border.
  3) when the window snaps out the window is correctly resized, but the
cursor is now placed at the CENTER of the titlebar and not in the original
position.

  4) because of this the window moves away.

This effect is more pronounced if the cursor is placed at the edge of
  the titlebar.

Metacity window manager nicely handles this. The user experience is much
  more smooth.

  Cheers,

  Davide

[Bug 527969] UdevDb.txt

2010-06-03 Thread Davide Lasagna
apport information

** Attachment added: UdevDb.txt
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/49620976/UdevDb.txt

  Cheers,

  Davide

[Bug 494394] Re: Cannot login with gdm after upgrading to lucid

2010-04-04 Thread Davide Lasagna
Some updates. After creating the new user i've copied all files of my
previous home dir to the new dir and i cannot login again, even with the
new user. To do some debug, i moved back all files, one by one, and I
discovered that the last lines in .bashrc prevent gdm from letting me
login.

These are the lines:

# enable programmable completion features (you don't need to enable
# this, if it's already enabled in /etc/bash.bashrc and /etc/profile
# sources /etc/bash.bashrc).
if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then
. /etc/bash_completion
fi

You have to have the bash-completion package installed and these lines
uncommented in .bashrc.

Can someone try to reproduce this?

[Bug 546021] Re: Using Shift+left arrow or right arrow to select characters results in garbage on command line

2010-04-03 Thread Davide Lasagna
Hi, thanks for taking the time to report this bug and for helping to make
Ubuntu a better OS.
The terminal keybindings depend on the readline configuration, which stays in
the file /etc/inputrc. I also have Lucid running on my laptop and i can
reproduce this behaviour although i'm not sure if you could select text in the
terminal with shift+arrows in karmic. As far as i remember there was no such
possibility, but i may be mistaken. Can someone running Karmic post the
/etc/inputrc file? Marking as incomplete until new information.

[Bug 552724] Re: command dont ended with prompt

2010-04-03 Thread Davide Lasagna
Ok, Dino (guessing you're italian, as me)
Here is the solution to your problem: when you launch a command in a terminal
the program you have launched writes to the screen some messages. What you need
to do is to append disown to the command. You will do:

pulseaudio disown

The means that the program is launched in the background so you have the
terminal free and you can write other things.
With disown you can close the terminal if you want and pulseadio continues to
run. Try without it and you will understand what it does.

[Bug 553595] [NEW] nautilus ctrl+L shortcut does not restore the button navigation bar when pressed again

2010-04-01 Thread Davide Lasagna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Open a nautilus window.

1) Press ctrl+L, the location bar opens.
2) Press it again, nothing happens

I would expect nautilus toggling away the location bar, restoring the
buttons navigation bar

thanks for your comment and for making Ubuntu a better OS. However this
bug has been already fixed some time ago, so you should open a separate

Nevertheless, I agree with your thought!

[Bug 534684] Re: Suspend Fails to Resume

2010-03-27 Thread Davide Lasagna
I'm also having the same problem: suspend is fine, resume gives black
screen ( of death?:) ). I remember some time ago trying to setup
plymouth on this laptop on an arch linux install. I remember that
enabling KMS to have plymouth working left the laptop with the same
problem. Maybe its related with it. Do i need to send apport-collect
informations?

[Bug 540434] [NEW] nautilus places item colors is not that perfect

2010-03-17 Thread Davide Lasagna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

I'm sorry if i won't be very clear here, but i'll try to explain it the
better i can.

The colors of the items of the nautilus sidepane ( in places mode )
could be improved. As you can see in the attached screenshot the
selected item has a top darker line and two white left and right border.
What i'm thinking to is some more solidity for the selected item,
maybe same color for all the four borders.

[Bug 540511] [NEW] empathy combobox highlight is inconsistent with the rest of the theme

2010-03-17 Thread Davide Lasagna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

Running latest lucid updates.

Empathy status combobox highlight is not consistent with the orange
highlight of other type of comboboxes (firefox, nautilus, ..) and other
widgets. Moreover the left border is cut out.

See attached screenshot explaining the problem.

Might be a bug in empathy, maybe they use a non standard widget.

Anyway this behaviour is not present with many other themes (tested
community-themes package), so i thought to report this bug for this
package.

For the Ambiance theme this is very evident, not so much for Radiance,
even if the highlight is not visible at all here.

Cheers

[Bug 539237] Re: window list buttons have bad colors

2010-03-15 Thread Davide Lasagna
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 536844 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/536844

I'm sorry if i will not be very clear here but i'm not that good at
english, my bad.

I don't think this is a duplicate bug of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/536844 because it refers to other states
of the window list buttons. I think that the background color of the
selected buttons (the button of the window which has focus) does not fit
well with the text color; to put it simply, it lacks contrast. This
problem also affects the background and foreground colors of the buttons
when you hover the cursor over them. Text is white, background is a
light brown: they just don't work well together [at least with my
monitor configuration and eyes ;) ].

This bug affect in particular the ambiance theme. Radiance is ok with
this problem.

Cheers

[Bug 533531] Re: gvfs-backends package should be a dependency of gvfs not only recommended

2010-03-08 Thread Davide Lasagna
But at least, when the user tries to connect to a server, it should be
pointed to him that he can install this package to have much more
functionality. Just a question: is this package in the default lucid
iso? If yes why it has been removed during my upgrade from karmic? From
the user point of view it seems a regression, because some functionality
available in karmic was lost on lucid. That's why I reported this as a
bug.
