[Bug 1588589] [NEW] Grub failed because of UEFI mode instead of BIOS mode
Public bug reported: I am trying to replace my 14.04 to 16.04. I formatted my older ext4 / and ext2 /boot but preserve my older /home. while trying to install I had a warning about being in UEFI mode but I had no choice, I don't know how to boot the USB key in any other way than the one I chose (and I'm not even sure how I've set it in UEFI mode) At the end of the install I got a popup window telling my that Grub failed and that the newly installed system will not boot. I will now try to tweek grub manually. [Bug 1362919] Re: gcalctool 3.10.2 report incorrect expression when switching from hexa to decimal

[Bug 722019] Re: Failed to install the bootloader
I had the problem and my workaround was to run usb-creator-gtk as a regular user (i.e.: not as root) and also by slowly take my time to enter my password when usb-creator-gtk is trying to install the bootloader. My best guess as the why: I believe the partition table is set to be re- read just before installing the bootloader and since a USB device can sometimes take a while to disappear/reappear the application is just trying too fast to install the bootloader. There could be something also with the FTL layer being busy as hell with the copying/unmount/sync that just happened. (FTL being an important component in the USB key's firmware) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/722019 Title: Failed to install the bootloader To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/722019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529366] Re: Regression: usb-creator-gtk fails to set the boot flag on the partition and exits.

[Bug 859539] Re: usb-creator-gtk fails to install bootloader: System policy prevents installing the bootloader
My best guess of what the problem is: The application is trying to install the bootloader while some buffers (linux buffers, or hardware buffers, I don't know and I don't care) are not finished writing data on the usb key. After 10 failed attempts I finally succeeded by waiting for my usb key led to stop flashing before entering the password required for installing bootloader. so until this bug is fixed I would not recommend to run this app as root. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859539 Title: usb-creator-gtk fails to install bootloader: System policy prevents installing the bootloader To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/859539/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
