[Bug 1289884] Re: wireless doesn't associate after waking from suspend

2015-01-25 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers

Can confirm with 14.04/14.10/15.04, Thinkpad X121e, Intel WiFi 7260 N.

Network is avaible after suspend but often fails to associate and to
therefore to connect. This problem does _NOT_ exist with Debian/testing
or Fedora 21.

[Bug 1090449] [NEW] Compiz-Experimental PPA corruption with fglrx

2012-12-14 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 12.10 with the latest Compiz/Unity builds out of Sam's
Compiz-Experimental Performance PPA and the AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta 11
(fglrx 9.01) driver release on an AMD Radeon HD 6870, I am getting
blinking/corruption on text I enter in the terminal and general
corruption when moving windows. This problem did not exist with the
Unity staging PPA and a Compiz build based on #3527, which also included
the window movement performance improvement. The can't click on
something in the upper left corner bug that happens sometimes is still
the same as with the Unity staging PPA.

On the positive side, all corruptions aside, the performance is
absolutely fantastic. It feels buttery smooth like never before.

HERE is a video demonstrating the problem: http://youtu.be/sdtwCFGTLbg

I know this is tagged as a NVIDIA bug but I have drastically improved
window movement performance with fglrx here on Ubuntu 12.10 and the
newest builds of the unity-team/staging PPA. I also had stutter/freezing
when moving windows after I already opened some other windows. It was
the worst when I had Steam open, but it's all smooth now! Great news for

[Bug 1058636] [NEW] system lags with fglrx, Chrome and Vsync

2012-09-29 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
Public bug reported:

Using the latest Ubuntu 12.10 build, the system stutters (to the point
that the mouse doesn't move for a few milliseconds, very noticeable and
annoying) when using the latest AMD Catalyst driver (fglrx 9.000 from
the quantal repository), Google Chrome and overwriting the driver
software blacklist in about:flags (normally it should be accelerated by
default anyway, it does with the driver from AMD.com and Ubuntu 12.04).

You you hover over some links, like the ones on engadget.com on the
right (recent reviews), it stutters A LOT. When you go to about:flags
and check disable GPU Vsync it runs smoothly and perfectly fine like
it did with Compiz 0.9.7.x.

Also while hovering/moving over links (with Vsync on/off), CPU usage
goes up till 60% on my quadcore, but that's another story and has always
been like that).

I know there's one more Vsync related fix coming with the final compiz
0.9.8.4 release, but I think I've read it only matters for nVidia.

2012-01-23 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
Yeah unfortunately 3.3rc1 does not fix the issue for me neither. This is
weird because some pre-release of Linux 3.2 fixed it for me I think
(they had a fix in the 3.2 series but removed it and replaced it with a
better one in the 3.3 series). I asked the developers and they say the
new fix will be in Linux 3.2.2 or 3.2.3 so should be in precise soon
enough, it should work for some at least, while I try to work out what
the rest of us can do.

[Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-09-22 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
I am confused. Is this fixed in today's compiz update? It's not in the
changelog.

Tried it. It's not fixed with the update compiz
1:0.9.5.94+bzr20110919-0ubuntu1, why the hell not? :(

Next cycle? As in 12.04? So that means regular AMD users that don't know
about the workaround will be rightfully moaning about slow Unity
performance for six more months then.

[Bug 538512] Re: Preconfigure font rendering settings

2011-08-30 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
Actually yes, it is. When you install a fresh Kubuntu system, go to
systemsettings/appearance where the font settings are and logout and
login again, it looks a lot worse. The default settings on a new system
are RGB subpixel hinting and slight hinting (just like Ubuntu with
GNOME, and it looks best) and this should be just set by default in the
configuration.

[Bug 763005] Re: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl

2011-05-12 Thread Dennis-martin-herbers
I can confirm this on my desktop (Radeon HD 4850) and notebook (Fusion
E-350). Disabling Sync to Vblank in CCSM improves desktop performance A
LOT.
