[Bug 1951826] Re: Installing site as Progressive Web App does not create launcher icon

2024-05-29 Thread Dexter Frost
Hi there, this issue has come up for me on all packaged versions of
epiphany - except no record of app in application manager either. Gnome
has closed the issue as it isn't them. Please see thread:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/epiphany/-/issues/2357

Gnome believe this to be an Ubuntu issue.

Thanks all.

[Bug 1830914] Re: software-properties-gtk does not run at all!

2019-06-24 Thread dexter
The software-properties-gtk starts, but the last tab (which is a new
tab), captioned "Livepatch", does not work.

The text says "Checking availability...", then, after a while an
"internal error detected" dialog comes up.

So "livepatch" does not work (at least does not seem to).

2019-06-24 Thread dexter
I found that if I move a bit the "import requests_unixsocket" line (in file
LivepatchService.py), then the software-properties-gtk call *works*.
Please somebody either propagate this solution (if it is a true solution), or
tell me how to propagate.
(I do not know shat is exactly happening. Whether the try-clause partly
succeeds, then rolls back?..)

[Bug 1781049] Re: WiFi hard blocked after resuming laptop from suspend

2019-06-20 Thread Dexter
Apologies for the delay, was busy with college work. I recall having
this bug on Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.04 too. I will have to install and see.
Also, this bug exists on Kubuntu (not surprising) Fedora, Manjaro (both
latest kernels and updates) . I tried digging up more info on hp-wmi
etc. but nothing worked out.

Can I use a live-CD and check with the Ubuntu version that ships with
this kernel or do I have to install it on the system?

Thank you for your time and help!

[Bug 1782709] Re: Updating systemd kills network on bionic

2019-03-17 Thread DEXTER
Some more info:
 - The machine is a Virtualbox ubuntu bionic, and I have a snapshot before the
upgrade, so I can reproduce it
 - I'm using ifconfig instead of netplan, because I need a ppp interface (for
pppoe)
 - I have an /etc/network/interfaces file
 - it seems that the interface through which I'm using ssh loses it's IP
address (defined in the interfaces file as static)
 - I also did these after installing bionic:
"systemctl disable systemd-networkd-wait-online.service
systemctl mask systemd-networkd-wait-online.service" because it was holding up
the boot process for a long period

[Bug 1782709] Re: Updating systemd kills network on bionic

2019-03-17 Thread DEXTER
I could only resolve the ssh issue with killing the apt process, and restarted
networking.
This is a pretty bad issue imho. Upgrading packages through ssh should not
disconnect the session, but even if it is, upgrading the systemd package should
not result in not being able to log back in ever again!

[Bug 1814555] [NEW] Ubuntu boot failure. 4.18.0-14 boot stalls. (does not boot)

2019-02-04 Thread dexter
Public bug reported:

Today my Ubuntu (18.10) did an auto-upgrade to 4.18.0-14-generic,
requested a reboot, and was unable to boot. After the "Starting
Load/Save RF Kill Switch Status..." line it is waiting forever. (Or/and
doing something behind the scenes. After a while, even the HDD indicator
led go out.)

This is a permanent error, so kernel 4.18.0-14 does NOT boot.
I was able to boot with kernel 4.18.0-13. (By pressing Shift when grub starts.)

My configuration is "nothing fancy", possibly-except the locale (ISO-8859-2, hu
and en), Xcfe4, gdm3, gnome-screensaver.
I have already upgraded to the latest packages. (sudo apt-get dist-upgrade)

[Bug 1802194] Re: do-release-upgrade gives many "locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory" messages

2018-11-07 Thread dexter
While the do-release-upgrade was running, (in a separate window) I
queried the current locale. It was:

$ locale

locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory

So, do-release-upgrade (or the 'locales' package?) created many-many en_*.utf8
locales.. (-- which I do not needm never needed and never will need!)
But "en_US.iso8852" was not created (and the previous generatum was dropped or
lost). Despite that the (original) /etc/default/locale (and
/var/lib/locales/supported.d/en etc.) do contained it.

So /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt-term.log is (almost) full of
 locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
 locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
messages.
(I am not sure what does it mean exactly. Some functionality is lost? Essential
functionality or non-essential, or what essentiality-grade..? What can we say?
Was the release-upgrade successful or not?.. What to do?)

do-release-upgrade finished (somehow).

After reboot, the locale was (I cannot recall in full detail) something
"C.UTF-8"s.

I manually reconstructed the locale. (Via: Language Support GUI,
/etc/default/locale, /var/lib/locales/supported.d/en, /etc/locale.gen,
'rm -r /usr/lib/locale/*', locale-gen .)

Please *test* do-release-upgrade with locale-encodings other than UTF-8.
(And languages other than en_US.)

So the bug is (still) present.

How can I set this issue to show that it affects Ubuntu Bionic (that's
what I reported in the first place) and it is still not fixed for Bionic
(only on Cosmic)

[Bug 1781049] Re: WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)

2018-08-29 Thread Dexter
Hello,
Blacklisting the below modules one after the another individually or all of
them did no good. The hard-block bug is still there. [2]

blacklist hp_wmi
blacklist hp_wireless

Also, while going through the output of dmesg, I found a few lines that
might be of interest (not that I have any experience, as my handle
suggests, I'm a noob at Linux) or help you guys.

# ** *
dmesg snippets (when no modules are blacklisted) [2]

HP Wireless hotkeys as /devices/virtual/input/input8
hp_wmi: query 0xd returned error 0x5
HP WMI hotkeys as /devices/virtual/input/input10

[   96.374587] iwlwifi :08:00.0: reporting RF_KILL (radio disabled)
[ 96.374700] iwlwifi :08:00.0: RF_KILL bit toggled to disable radio.

# ** *
Files that sparked my interest:

The file at '/sys/devices/virtual/input/input8/uevent' has the following
contents:
PRODUCT=19/0/0/0
NAME="HP Wireless hotkeys"
PHYS="hpq6001/input0"
PROP=0
EV=3
KEY=80 0 0 0
MODALIAS=input:b0019vpe-e0,1,kF7,ramlsfw

The file at '/sys/devices/virtual/input/input10/uevent' has the following
contents:

PHYS="wmi/input0"
PROP=0

SW=0
MODALIAS=input:b0019vpe-e0,1,4,5,k8A,8D,94,99,E0,E1,E2,F0,166,ram4,lsfw

Trying to emulate some keys by trying to write to the file results in
I/O errors. (suggested on the internet)

[Bug 1781049] Re: WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)

2018-08-29 Thread Dexter
Hello!
I've tested the rc1 release kernel (4.19.0-041900rc1-generic), and sure enough,
the bug persists. WiFi hard-blocked after suspend-resume.

Driver issues can be ruled out as I've installed a new wifi card form intel
(Wireless 3165, iwlwifi driver: 4.19.0-041900rc1-generic, firmware:
29.1044073957.0)
and the problem exists with both the cards, on both the kernel versions.

As far as I know, from dmesg, reports that some hardware switch is being
flipped, while there is none on my model (HP AB035TX - Manual here [0]).
The 'Airplane Mode' key only works on soft blocks.

Any solutions are really helpful!
Thank you very much for your time!
Regards,
Dexter

[Bug 1781049] Re: WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)

2018-07-12 Thread Dexter
All the above are BEFORE I sent the system to sleep and resumed it. All
the below comments are after I suspended (sleep) the system for a few
minutes and then resumed it.

** Description changed:

  I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 18.04 and everything seems to work
  fine, till I suspended and resumed the laptop. After resume, the wifi is
  hard blocked is rfkill. Reinstalling drivers, different drivers, nothing
  helped. All this was done under Secure Boot disabled under Ubuntu and
  BIOS (UEFI).

  The WiFI card is Realtek 8723BE. laptop is HP AB035TX Pavilion 15. If
  any further info is required, I'll add it on notification. I am familiar
  with Linux, any help will be really appreciated.

  P.S: If this wifi card is the issue, please suggest some PCI-mini card that
will work with my Ubuntu, even after suspend and resume (Ideally a 2.4/5G + BT
5.0)

  Thank you all!

[Bug 1781049] [NEW] WiFI hard blocked after resuming laptop (RTL 8723BE)

2018-07-10 Thread Dexter
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1769838] Re: Input source options does not work on Bionic with gnome-flashback

2018-05-08 Thread DEXTER
(I don't know how to edit a comment so here's a new one)

Should have read more about this mutter thingy. It seems to be a window
manager for Gnome 3, which is metacity for Gnome 2. So libmutter could
not be used for gnome-flashback probably...

[Bug 1769838] Re: Input source options does not work on Bionic with gnome-flashback

2018-05-08 Thread DEXTER
Thanks!

Looking at these briefly I can see why this was not implemented at first.
As far as I can tell it is hard to tell which window has the focus right now.

The .js version uses libmutter mutter-3.28.1/src/core/display-private.h, which
has an interesting comment on this:
" /* Our best guess as to the "currently" focused window (that is, the
   * window that we expect will be focused at the point when the X
   * server processes our next request), and the serial of the request
   * or event that caused this.
   */
  MetaWindow *focus_window;
"
so it is already a best guess only. Maybe gnome-flashback should depend on
libmutter and use this MetaDisplay's MetaWindow to get the currently focused
window? Or maybe there is an easier way using gdk/gtk to get the currently
focused window?

IDK. Unfortunately this does not seem to be a trivial issue
unfortunately...

Can you please link the upstream bug, or the source where I can look
into it further?

This is very annoying for me, and if it is not very hard I could try
fixing it.

[Bug 1764405] Re: Installer crash

2018-04-16 Thread DEXTER
All I can remember is that I was fiddling with the partitions.

At first I was very surprised that there was no 'Encrypt Home' option.
So I thought.. ok then, encrypt the whole disk. But then it also checked the
use LVM option which I don't want.
Why would a simple desktop user want LVM anyways?

So went with the third option, manual partitions.

I was pressing every button you can imagine there to have encrypted disk
with separate root and home partitions (revert, new partition table,
plus, minus, change) up until it finally accepted and let me through
(thinking I was able to puzzle the right partitions together).

Next I chose the timezone, and just when I started to type my username
on the next page it crashed.

You can check all the fiddlings in the logs OFC.

[Bug 1727844] [NEW] ffmpeg Large-file error (non-fatal)

2017-10-26 Thread Dexter N Muir
Public bug reported:

Winff 1.5.5 on Kubuntu 17.04, hp p6-2175a (i3), calling ffmpeg (from
repository):

ffmpeg 1st pass window:
/usr/bin/ffmpeg -y -i "/drv2/My
Videos/_aMule/Incoming/Formula.One.17.United.States.Grand.Prix.720p.HDTV.x264-VERUM.[tvu.org.ru].mkv"
 -crf 23.0 -vcodec libx264 -filter:v scale=w=720:h=406 -preset slow -acodec aac
-strict experimental -ar 48000 -b:a 128k -coder 1 -flags +loop -cmp chroma

250 -keyint_min 25 -sc_threshold 40 -i_qfactor 0.71 -b_strategy 1 -threads 0
"/drv2/Formula.One.17.United.States.Grand.Prix.HDTV.x264-VERUM.[tvu.org.ru].mp4"

Error message in Konsole:
[ac3 @ 0x563f33722b60] exponent 25 is out-of-range1:01:02.99
bitrate=1447.7kbits/s dup=53 drop=0 speed=1.36x

bitrate=1468.9kbits/s dup=73 drop=0 speed=1.25x

The error message is actually the two "ac3 @" lines, the first ([ac3 @
0x563f33722b60] exponent 25 is out-of-range) overwrites the underlying progress
line (which gives the point at which the error occurs), and is probably the
important one.
That last line, (frame ... 1.25x) is ongoing progress.
(Incidentally, the progress line is padded out to beyond Konsole's default
width, resulting in screensful of progress lines until widening the view, at
which it overwrites)
The error seems to be non-fatal; the process continues to completion and the
result seems to be unaffected. It also seems to be consistent across *all* the
Formula One 720p files, at the 1 hour point.

Hopefully enough to work on ...

[Bug 1550940] [NEW] touchpad dont work after suspend

2016-02-28 Thread Dexter Riverman
Public bug reported:

First I installed 14.04 LTS and tried two different scripts within the
sleep.d folder. Added files 10_touchpad and trackpad and tried to
different scrips I found in the forums. I found a old tip, add
atkbd.reset in grub. I went to support channel on irc and asked there. I
went to the #hardware channel and I got tip to checked bios settings and
i tried to change settings there. I updated my bios. I have the same
problem on several ubuntu versions.

I have a Asus F302La, intel grapics, i5 processor, 8gb ram.

[Bug 1325525] [NEW] Missing 53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf from /etc/fonts/conf.d

2014-06-02 Thread DEXTER
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu-trusty, and noticed that in Thunderbird the
fonts are rendered incorrectly. It seemed that the problem is with sub-
pixel rendering.

After much googling and finding nothing I've started to compare the
/etc/fonts/conf.d dir on my Precise machin with the trusty one. I noticed that
on trusty the 53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf file is missing from the conf.d dir,
but is available in the conf.avail.
After I created the symlink and rebooted, my thunderbird font rendering became
normal again.

But now if I start from something from the terminal it says:
Fontconfig warning: /etc/fonts/conf.d/53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf, line 10:
Having multiple values in test isn't supported and may not work as expected

So the 1st question, why did you leave out the monospace-lcd-filter.conf
from the fontconfig conf.d, and the second is why didn't you update it
so it won't complaing about the multiple test tags.

So we don't know what broke it, we don't know if it'll happen again, we
know nothing, but you just set it to Fix committed state?

At least could you please write the mozilla's bugnumber here, IF they've
fixed it?
