[Bug 1514200] Re: kdesvn missing

2016-09-27 Thread Dominik Stadler
This seems to be installed correctly, the "missing part" is strange, you
will likely need to research some more by running kdesvn in a console
window and watch for more information or resort to using "strace kdesvn"
and find out which library it reports as missing in your installation.

[Bug 1170624] Re: kdesvn won't start

2013-04-19 Thread Dominik Stadler
Translation of error message: libsvn_client-1.so.1: can not open shared
object file: A file or directory that does not exist

This file is part of package libsvn1, looking at dependencies.txt, you
seem to have version libsvn1 1.7.8-1+WANdisco of this package, whereas
lucid comes with version1.6.6dfsg-2ubuntu1.3.

So it seems the custom-built version of the subversion package does not
include the required file and thus this causes your problem here...

2012-09-23 Thread Dominik Stadler
Changing the default browser under System settings - Information -
Default-Applications - Web has effect, although changing back to
firefox does not fix it.

Changing the command in the gnome property browser under /desktop/gnome
/url-handlers/http/command does not have any effect on gnome-open, so
it seems this is not used and there are actually at least two places,
where this is configured...

[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2012-09-23 Thread Dominik Stadler
After a lot of digging into the various involved components including
some stracing I found out why it didn't work and how to fix this:

It seems the default applications are found via .desktop files in
/home/user/.local/share/applications. I had some older entries in
there, probably from Ubuntu editions from a few years back (I am not a
fan of re-installing and usually update from one to the next version).
There were several firefox entries in there, when I removed all of them,
I could not select firefox any more as default application in the system
settings, however when I copied over the firefox.desktop entry from
/usr/share/applications/ and re-selected firefox as the default
application, I can now open http-links from all the applications again.

Not sure who or what is to blame here, somehow my deleted-files folder
does not show the removed .desktop files any more, so I cannot post them
to allow for closer analysis, maybe the original reporter with the same
problem can post the files.

[Bug 1043122] [NEW] openjdk-6 6b24-1.11.3-1ubuntu0.10.04.1 allocates native memory up to the limit, 6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1 works fine

2012-08-29 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

my java-application on a server was running fine until I upgraded to the
latest openjdk-6 packages. Suddenly the application is allocating huge
amounts of native memory, up until memory is exhausted and the machine
dies. -Xmx settings do not affect this, jmap only reports 30MB of memory
being used. Reverting back to 6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1 made it work again.

What else do you need to investigate?

2012-08-29 Thread Dominik Stadler
** Description changed:

my java-application on a server was running fine until I upgraded to the
latest openjdk-6 packages. Suddenly the application is allocating huge
amounts of native memory, up until memory is exhausted and the machine
dies. -Xmx settings do not affect this, jmap only reports 30MB of memory
being used. Reverting back to 6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1 made it work again.
+
+ The application is downloading some HTML pages using the HtmlUnit Java
+ library, no native or JNI code is in place.
+
+ In the meantime I tested the following Java verisions from Oracle, all work
fine:
+ * jdk1.6.0_31
+ * jdk1.7.0_06

What else do you need to investigate?

Precise comes with version 2.3.4 and building has not been a problem for

[Bug 334056] Re: oggenc crashes with --resample option (amd64)

2012-05-06 Thread Dominik Stadler
As far as I see this patch is incorporated in version 1.4.0 of vorbis-
tools which is available as part of Ubuntu 12.04, so I think this is
fixed for now, please reopen if this is still a problem for you with
this vorbis-tools 1.4.0.

[Bug 899211] Re: package tp-smapi-dkms 0.40-7 failed to install/upgrade: tp-smapi kernel module failed to build

2011-12-02 Thread Dominik Stadler
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 673343 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673343

This happens because of changes in kernel 2.6.37, see Bug #673343, this
is fixed in Natty and there are patches available.

It is unlikely that this will be backported to lucid as it only happens
with custom kernels.

[Bug 885844] [NEW] Strange dependency serf-private in file debian/libserf1.symbols

2011-11-03 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

I am working on an experimental package for Subversion 1.7, which can
use serf for HTTP communication now, however the file
debian/libserf1.symbols contains a strange dependency, which prevents
linking successfully against it in the subversion packages:

--
libserf-1.so.0 libserf1 #MINVER#
| libserf-private
* Build-Depends-Package: libserf-dev

--

Only when I update the serf-packages and remove the line with libserf-
private, I can compile and link successfully against the libraries from
the serf-package.

This happens in the version libserf1-1.0.0-2, which is currently used in
both Oneiric and Precise.

** Affects: serf (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

please reopen this bug with more information if this is still a problem

[Bug 738438] Re: Printing PDF document sometimes does not work, printer states processing job endlessly, HP Laserjet 5000N

2011-03-20 Thread Dominik Stadler
I looked at the installed drivers and saw that I had different ones for
device HP5000 and HP5000onepage. Only the onepage driver had trouble.
This one had a driver of HP LaserJet 5000 Series Postscript
(recommended), when I switched to HP LaserJet 5000 hpijs, 3.10.2 it
worked again.

Furthermore the driver HP LaserJet 5000 Series Postscript
(recommended) is not even available any more for me, so it seems to
have been caused by an outdated printer driver.

Not sure if it makes sense to further investigate, therefore I am
closing this for now.

[Bug 738672] [NEW] Geany silently refuses to open file instead of giving me the choice what to do

2011-03-20 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: geany

When I try to open a file that seems to have characters in a different
encoding, geany silently refuses to open the file, only the status area
has a comment about it. Also if I force the encoding, it just cuts off
at the first non-matching character, without telling me what happened.

As a user, I would love to be informed about such a thing, currently I
just wonder why the document is not opened, only when I check the
status-area I see that it failed to open for some reason.

I see various options to improve this:
- provide a dialog to tell the user about a file that is not (completely) opened
- provide a way to display the invalid characters differently and still load
the document in full, not concatenating it mid-document

** Affects: geany (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 738438] [NEW] Printing PDF document sometimes does not work, printer states processing job endlessly, HP Laserjet 5000N

2011-03-19 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

Sometimes some PDF documents do not print on my HP Laserjet 5000N. The
document is shown in the print queue as currently printing and the
printer displays processing jobs and the light blinks like it is
receiving data, but it never continues on the job (I already left it in
this state for a few hours to verify).

This is a HP Lasterjet 5000N, connected as Network printer.

I looked at log-files in /var/log/cups, but did not see anything
suspicious, where else can I look for information?

This is caused by the newer kernel version.

Bug 572828 is something else as far as I see, however there is Bug
673343 which reports this and is fixed in Natty.

The updated package is at http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=tp-
smap and there is a patch available at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=602367.
