[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox
After a lot of digging into the various involved components including some stracing I found out why it didn't work and how to fix this: It seems the default applications are found via .desktop files in /home/user/.local/share/applications. I had some older entries in there, probably from Ubuntu editions from a few years back (I am not a fan of re-installing and usually update from one to the next version). There were several firefox entries in there, when I removed all of them, I could not select firefox any more as default application in the system settings, however when I copied over the firefox.desktop entry from /usr/share/applications/ and re-selected firefox as the default application, I can now open http-links from all the applications again. Not sure who or what is to blame here, somehow my deleted-files folder does not show the removed .desktop files any more, so I cannot post them to allow for closer analysis, maybe the original reporter with the same problem can post the files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035221 Title: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgnome/+bug/1035221/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738438] Re: Printing PDF document sometimes does not work, printer states processing job endlessly, HP Laserjet 5000N
I looked at the installed drivers and saw that I had different ones for device HP5000 and HP5000onepage. Only the onepage driver had trouble. This one had a driver of HP LaserJet 5000 Series Postscript (recommended), when I switched to HP LaserJet 5000 hpijs, 3.10.2 it worked again. Furthermore the driver HP LaserJet 5000 Series Postscript (recommended) is not even available any more for me, so it seems to have been caused by an outdated printer driver. [Bug 738672] [NEW] Geany silently refuses to open file instead of giving me the choice what to do
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: geany When I try to open a file that seems to have characters in a different encoding, geany silently refuses to open the file, only the status area has a comment about it. Also if I force the encoding, it just cuts off at the first non-matching character, without telling me what happened. As a user, I would love to be informed about such a thing, currently I just wonder why the document is not opened, only when I check the status-area I see that it failed to open for some reason. I see various options to improve this: - provide a dialog to tell the user about a file that is not (completely) opened - provide a way to display the invalid characters differently and still load the document in full, not concatenating it mid-document ** Affects: geany (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738672 Title: Geany silently refuses to open file instead of giving me the choice what to do -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
