[Bug 1442050] Re: (colord:832): Cd-WARNING **: failed to get session [pid 690]: Unknown error -2

2016-11-07 Thread Edward Donovan
This is happening on a machine I just upgraded to 16.10. AFAICT, from
looking back at the logs, it only started happening, regularly, after
this upgrade. :)

Only comes about every three hours here. Just wanted to confirm it
seems to exist in the latest release. Thanks.

[Bug 1286580] Re: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in _gtk_marshal_BOOLEAN__BOXED()

2014-09-03 Thread Edward Donovan
I have continued to get this crash, periodically. I think the
circumstance that triggers it is, generally at least:

1. opening the app menus in the panel via keyboard shortcuts, then
2. hitting left-arrow to wrap around and access the indicator menus

Doing the above does not reproduce the crash every time.

I have not seen it happen, I think, when I hit right-arrow, to start on
the leftmost indicator applet. Just the left-to-wrap-right move. The
indicator-session opens, and often the menu stays stuck open for a
while.

Incidentally, this behavior is a workaround for the loss of HUD access
to indicator menus. (I suppose it may be what I did before the HUD
arrived; I don't remember clearly.)

Thanks, Marco!

[Bug 1286580] Re: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in _gtk_marshal_BOOLEAN__BOXED()

2014-09-03 Thread Edward Donovan
Hm, to clarity:

The indicator-session opens, and often the menu stays stuck open for a
whileas the panel crashes. That's how I first know the crash has
happened again

What I wanted to convey was that the rightmost indicator menu opens, and
then the crash freezes it; my continued right-arrow inpuds. Not every
time. Whether that means that particular indicator is involved, or the
next one, date/time, that never opens--or whether that means anything--I
am not knowledgeable enough to say.

Thank you.

[Bug 379019] Re: loading subtitles resets the movie

2014-07-29 Thread Edward Donovan
Ah! No, not on my system, at least. Ubuntu 14.04, with all current
updates. totem is 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 .

Totem hung on me while I was testing, but that seemed related to opening
a movie while another instance was running. I don't have time to go
after that one right now! But nothing bad appeared at all related to
loading subtitles.

Tested it on two movies. Loading a new sub file did not reset or change
the point in the movie at all. Looks fixed here. Thanks for raising
the question.

[Bug 1200523] Re: Some of the kubuntu patches break plasma

2014-01-01 Thread Edward Donovan
I'm getting these crashes with the current Kubuntu 13.10 packages (no
relevant PPAs on this machine).

Qt 4.8.4+dfsg-0ubuntu18.1
KDE 4.11.3-0ubuntu0.1

As best as I can tell, this bug looks unfixed in Kubuntu, but marked
Fixed.

On my upstream report, I was advised:

Please update to unpatched Qt 4.8.5. Ask in your distribution's
forum, where to get it.

Does anyone indeed know if this is available or on the way?

Thank you.

[Bug 1225326] Re: transmission-gtk crashed with SIGSEGV in curl_easy_pause()

2013-12-23 Thread Edward Donovan
The webseed torrent eventually did finish, after a number of cycles of
crashes and restarting. The torrent was complete (and the status was
Finished, I believe, FWIW; at any rate it wasn't active) when I removed
the torrent from Transmission. That triggered one more instance of this
crash. When restarted, Transmission no longer showed the torrent in
its list; the deletion from Transmission seems to have finished.

[Bug 1225326] Re: transmission-gtk crashed with SIGSEGV in curl_easy_pause()

2013-12-18 Thread Edward Donovan
So, get this crash repeatedly, but not immediately, when I try to
download a 700MB video file from archive.org. It's a webseed. The
LibreOffice site is not responding as I try to check this, but there's a
good chance that torrent has a webseed, too. This crash may be specific
to web seeds. (For all I know, that may be all that transmission uses
curl for.)

When I restart Transmission, the webseeded torrent downloads again for a
while, before crashing. Perhaps it will finish this time. I haven't
figured out anything that seems to trigger or precede the crash.

Thanks.

[Bug 1183269] Re: new upstream release 9.1.3

2013-06-09 Thread Edward Donovan
On my Ivy Bridge system, the dash now opens very slowly. Window and
viewport switching are also glacially slow. A few other upgrades, like
the kernel, arrived at the same time. But with pablomme's report, too,
it seems more likely to be this.

Specifically it's Ivy Bridge GT2, aka HD 4500.

I'll try to grab the older packages, and downgrade mesa, to confirm.

Thanks.

[Bug 1183269] Re: new upstream release 9.1.3

2013-06-05 Thread Edward Donovan
I edited the original report, above, removing the word 'bug' before all
the upstream bug numbers. Launchpad had the wrong idea, linking them
all to the wrong local bugs. It just makes for confusion, I think.
Anyway, I'll try to report back later, on how this works on my Ivy
Bridge system. Thanks.

[Bug 1061720] Re: Strange flashing application switcher

2013-05-23 Thread Edward Donovan
Hi all, sorry it took me a long time to respond. This is still
occurring, on and off, in my Raring install (which is an upgrade not a
fresh installation). Just as in the video attached above. Same machine
with Intel graphics.

On a Raring machine with a Radeon card, I've never seen it. I have a
lot less time to test that one, so, small sample size.

I'll be happy to report more if I can.

Thanks.

[Bug 1183146] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()

2013-05-22 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Perhaps the retracer can tell if this is a dupe. It may be the same as
bug 1176269, that I reported. But the retracer failed on that one. I'm
not sure if it's having problems, or if there's something non-standard
in this system's coredumps, or what. The circumstances were different
for this crash, anyway.

I was setting up an audio CD to burn. I think the crash came as I was
dragging some tracks into a different order, but I can't remember for
sure. Thanks.

[Bug 1178098] [NEW] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::WindowCompositor::SetKeyFocusArea()

2013-05-09 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Not sure if I should go ahead and change this to a nux bug, instead of
compiz, from the stacktrace. But I'm sure those who know better will
sort that out easily.

I opened the dash, via the keyboard, then opened a preview of a file,
also via the keyboard (the menu key). I wanted to open the folder the
file was in, rather than the file directly. So in the preview, I tried
to keyboard-navigate to do that. I tried a few keys, like Tab and
Shift-Tab. I can't recall what key I hit first; I couldn't tell for
several seconds that compiz had locked up, and I was trying a few
different keys.

I haven't tried reproducing yet, 'cause I've barely got time to write
this up; no time to trigger another crash.

(An aside: I know compiz will be supported in LTS releases for a while,
but still I'm not sure how much attention may go to compiz issues, now
that it's deprecated for a future of Mir. Any comment on bugs like
this, in general, is welcome.)

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this bug could be the cause of Wine not installing, or
if that could be a separate issue. Sorry I don't know more.

[Bug 1169767] Re: not sure

2013-04-17 Thread Edward Donovan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1158107] Re: launcher does not hide when auto-hide is enabled

2013-04-17 Thread Edward Donovan
All I can offer is, this doesn't happen on every Raring install. I've
never had this problem on mine, and I'll guess that if everyone was
having it, there'd be a lot more activity on this bug.

I'm not sure what the recommended way to reset all Unity prefs is, at the
moment. Sorry I don't have any more constructive ideas!

This looks like a dupe of bug 1033302. Not caught by the retracer,
perhaps, because this core dump is from a 64-bit machine, and that one
from a 32?

I'm gonna mark it as a dupe. Undo, if anyone disagrees strongly.
Thanks.

[Bug 1159905] [NEW] clementine-tagreader crashed with SIGSEGV in ftell()

2013-03-25 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Happened not long after opening Clementine. I can't remember what I
might have clicked; sorry. A couple crash messages came up for
clementine; they looked the same, so I'm filing this, and dismissed the
other.

Background info - other music players that manage the music library are
crashing on my system in Raring, too. Players that just play a file,
like vlc or mplayer, don't crash. I don't know if Clementine, Amarok,
and Rhythmbox can't handle some files under my music directory, or
what's going on. No other general instability on this system.

Thanks.

2013-03-08 Thread Edward Donovan
Oh, oops. Hi Dimitry, I'm sorry I didn't help confirm. I only have a
Raring box right now, so when I see SRU confirmations go by, I go past
them. But I missed that I was the only user on this one. Thanks for
your help.

[Bug 1128100] Re: Inconsistencies between gedit and the Unity dock

2013-02-17 Thread Edward Donovan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1027584 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027584

Hi John, thanks for the report. You've found a bug that's also been
reported at bug 1027584. It's fixed in newer release of Ubuntu.
Looking at that page, I'm not quite sure if or when it'd going to get
into Precise. But you can fix it on your machine pretty easily.

Those menu items, called quicklists in Unity, are defined in

  /usr/share/applications/gedit.desktop

which belongs to gedit. Here's the relevant text from that file, on my
machine:

[Desktop Action Window]
Name=Open a New Window
Exec=gedit --new-window
OnlyShowIn=Unity;

[Desktop Action Document]
Name=Open a New Document
Exec=gedit --new-document
OnlyShowIn=Unity;

In the 12.04 version, it's gedit --new-window in both cases, instead
of gedit --new-document where it should be.

Until you get the fix, by update or upgrade, you can override the system
gedit.desktop file, with one for your user account, as
~/.local/share/applications/gedit.desktop. You can copy the system one
there, then edit it.

You'll probably want to keep an eye for the eventual update, and remove
your local gedit.desktop, when it comes, or, if you have more changes
you want to keep there, at least keep an eye for changes in the system
one.

And I'm gonna mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 1027584. I'll
subscribe to this, so you can keep posting here, if you want some more
help with a workaround, or on the main bug if you have more general
questions.

Hope this helps some. :)

[Bug 1118006] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_loop_unref()

2013-02-06 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Brasero had copied a DVD to an image file, and was preparing to write
the image. I had switched in the blank disc, but apparently it hadn't
written anything yet, as the disc is still blank. A couple of
unnecessary prompts came up when the blank disc was loaded. (That's a
bug that I haven't found nor filed yet. :) I hit escape a few times to
clear those away. A couple escape presses probably went to the brasero
window, and it crashed right after that.

So that's the only cause I can guess. That might make this a dupe of
bug 998389, if hitting Esc is equivalent to clicking the close button,
at that point.

Thanks!

[Bug 1108064] Re: HUD messes up application's Alt key bindings

2013-01-28 Thread Edward Donovan
Here's a similar buggy behavior, with a certain kind of dialog:

If you edit a Firefox bookmark from the address bar, a dialog comes up.
I guess it's a particular style of window in X, 'cause most dialogs
don't behave the same. The bookmark properties dialog includes a button
for Remove bookmark, and Alt+R is the keybinding. But as soon as you
hit alt, that dialog goes away, and the HUD comes up.

occurred right after I tried to open the 'File Transfers' window, from

Here is the relevant section from .xsession-errors:

** Description changed:

This is probably a dupe of bug 1107226, which I recently filed. I want
to see if the stacktrace comes out any different. Because this one
occurred right after I tried to open the 'File Transfers' window, from
the main menu. That wasn't the case in that other crash.

+ Here is the relevant section from .xsession-errors:
+
+ (xchat-gnome:28975): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown property:
TopicLabel.creation-function
+ (xchat-gnome:28975): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown property:

FindBar.creation-function
+ (xchat-gnome:28975): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown property:

+
+ I can't tell if that directly proceeded the crash.
+
  Thanks.

[Bug 1107226] [NEW] xchat-gnome crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_icon_theme_lookup_by_gicon()

2013-01-27 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Perhaps a dupe of bug 562753, or bug 302902. I'd like to see what the
retracer thinks about that. (Possibly they should be duped together,
themselves.)

Those older bugs are described as happening on every DCC transfer.
That's not the case for me, this is very rare, among lots of DCC
transfers.

Thanks.

[Bug 1103781] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc()

2013-01-23 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Lots of nautilus crashes lately, for me, in Raring. Like bug 1101965
and bug 1101985. This appears to be a separate point in the code, but
we'll see.

I removed .xsession-errors, because it had directory and other info from
my machine. The possibly relevant part was the last two lines:

(process:10001): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size
== 0' failed
(nautilus:8538): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

I'm not sure if these came right at the time of the crash.

Thanks.

Tried to open a bookmarked directory, via the launcher quicklist. Got

- My home partition had recently filled up, by accident, and the Xsession-

- gigs of space were available again by the time this crash happened.
+ Happened again, same directory. There are 9000+ files and dirs under
+ this directory. Maybe nautilus is barfing on that?

[Bug 1101965] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in calloc()

2013-01-19 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

Tried to open a bookmarked directory, via the launcher quicklist. Got
this crash.

My home partition had recently filled up, by accident, and the Xsession-
errors file shows some problem messages following that. But several
gigs of space were available again by the time this crash happened.

Thanks.

[Bug 1101815] Re: You don't have got the required privileges to perform this action.

2013-01-19 Thread Edward Donovan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1061720] Re: Strange flashing application switcher

2013-01-16 Thread Edward Donovan
I still see it on my up-to-date Raring box. Not all the time, so I
still can't reproduce it at will. Have certainly seen in the last few
days since you asked. :)

This box has Intel graphics, Ivy Bridge HD. (Currently using SNA. I've
seen this under both UXA and SNA.)

I guess I should re-open the bug. Thanks.

[Bug 1099291] [NEW] gnome-mplayer crashed with SIGSEGV in node_get_last()

2013-01-13 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

This was probably the first time I tried using Gnome Mplayer's open

[Bug 1098301] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in brasero_task_ctx_report_progress()

2013-01-10 Thread Edward Donovan
Public bug reported:

When Brasero crashed, the last message I had noticed was Finalizing
disc. The disc turned out to have been successfully burned, but maybe
that's evident if this function comes after burning is done.

LP suggested bug 864216 as a possible dupe -- not exactly the same
function so I filed this separately. I don't know enough to judge if
might end up being a dupe.

Thanks.

[Bug 1094871] Re: clicking launcher icons during workspace switching goes to wrong workspace

2013-01-05 Thread Edward Donovan
At first I could not reproduce this, but now I can make it happen, at
least sometimes. I think the difference may have been that with the
Launcher always visible, I didn't see the bug. Letting the Launcher
hide and appear on demand, I can hit the bug sometimes. That might make
a little sense, if it's harder to assign the click properly, when the
Launcher's screen area isn't static.

Is your Launcher set to hide, Andreas?

Thanks.

didn't work. Hm.

** Changed in: libdvdnav (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = New

** Description changed:

This looks like bug 934471 happening again. The patch that fixed that
bug does appear to be present in the raring source. So I don't know
  what's happening. :(

At least one dvd that I have, but not all dvds, cause this crash in both
vlc and totem. Just like bug 934471.

This system has libdvdcss2 installed, from medibuntu, version
  1.2.12-0.0medibuntu1. In case that's relevant.
-
- Later...maybe this DVD has a bad sector, a scratch or something. I'm
- gonna mark this incomplete until I know better.

  Thanks.
