[Bug 1843819] Re: Volume scaling is incorrect for Logitech H600 (046d:0a29): alsamixer @ 0% where pulse volume @ 50%

2019-09-18 Thread Edwin Lee
I can confirm this exact same behavior. It occurred on my H600, in both
Ubuntu 18.10 and 19.04. Makes for very strange volume effects,
especially to those who don't know to investigate with pavucontrol and
alsamixer.

[Bug 1236479] [NEW] On dual monitor, unmaximizing Evolution windows makes them huge

2013-10-07 Thread Edwin Lee
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
Standard Unity environment
Evolution 3.2.3
Dual monitor set up

I usually run Evolution maximized on one of my windows. Occasionally I
want to un-maximize the window for misc reasons. When I unmaximize the
window, it will sometimes get bigger, appearing to be the entire size of
both monitors. I am trying to figure out when exactly this happens
because it isn't consistently happening. It may be on the first un-
maximize attempt of a session, as it didn't happen right now when I
tried it.

Is there possibly an initialization for Evolution that attempts to set
preferred window size to the entire desktop rather than a single
monitor?

If I can diagnose it further I'll add comments.

[Bug 1158763] Re: Overlay Scrollbars are not present

I appreciate that workaround, but disabling the overlay scroll bars
completely just to get gnumeric to scroll at all seems like more
negative than positive. Again, it may be useful for testing and
gaining an understanding, but I just want to make sure users understand
this will do more than just change Gnumeric itself. Thanks!

[Bug 1159961] [NEW] Guake vague command line arguments

2013-03-25 Thread Edwin Lee
Public bug reported:

I find some minor issues with the guake command line arguments.

I'd like to add an extension to the Nautilus menu to Open in Guake.
It is easy enough to try to manipulate guake from a command line, with
guake -n appearing to open a new tab, however this seems vague in the
usage: -n NEW_TAB, --new-tab=NEW_TAB I've passed arguments to this, but
they don't seem to do anything, and not passing an argument fails.

In addition, the toggle visibility should have an optional argument that
enforces VISIBLE or NOT_VISIBLE instead of just a simple toggle.
Alternatively a VISIBLE flag could be exposed which would let my script
check whether it is already visible or not.

I love guake, and may submit a patch for the above changes, but I wanted
to see if anyone had any ideas whether this wouldn't be necessary or
not.

Thanks!

[Bug 1008277]

2013-01-15 Thread Edwin Lee
Created attachment 73119
Visualization of Problem

I filed this bug originally a while back, and it was marked as invalid.
Just today, I noticed that I am still encountering the problem.

I am still on Ubuntu, 64-bit. Now I am running 12.10, and LibreOffice
is at Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: 360m1 (Build:2))

The filenames are still being goofed in the Recent Menu. I have
attached an image. For example, I commonly have files named:

figure_XYDimensions.png
figure_SomethingElse.png

In the recent menu, the underscores are gone. And (this may help narrow
down the problem) when the recent menu is first shown, the filenames are
plain, but as I hover over that menu, the underscores appear as an
underline to the letter following their original position. This hints
that the underscore is perhaps being interpreted as the shortcut for
that menu item.

This happens in the core LibreOffice, not just when a single instance
(calc, draw, etc.) is open.

Let me know if I can provide any further details, I know it isn't a
serious issue, but it seems like it may be a simple fix to just *not*
process recent file underscores as shortcut identifiers.

Thanks!!

[Bug 928434] Re: update-manager doesn't remember its position on screen

2012-10-03 Thread Edwin Lee
I see this all the time...perhaps every time update manager is opened.
I have additional behavior such as the window size is maximized, but
it is not positioned properly. Part of the window appears on my
secondary monitor, or off-screen, as the case may be. Perhaps this is
the same effect as mentioned in previous comments. Another perhaps
related issue is that occasionally the update manager window is all
white, no widgets or data shown. When I *actually* maximize the window,
it is properly refreshed and everything appears properly. Seems all
related, but I guess we'll see.

I am running 12.04 (64-bit), which was upgraded from 11.10 way back
when. I don't believe I saw this behavior back on 11.10.

[Bug 999977] Re: [rt73usb] WPA2 Authentication Requested Multiple Times

2012-10-03 Thread Edwin Lee
This bug is so annoying! I am running a new dell XPS17, my wife is on a
Dell Inspiron something...not new. Often times when we open her
computer lid there are dozens of Wireless Network Authorization dialogs
piled up on top of each other. To clear them all at one, I just right
click on the little wifi icon and click quit, which closes all instances
of the dialog. The wireless is still connected. On my XPS, I often see
this while I am connected to my LAN at work. Even though I have a fine
connection to the internet, these dialogs pop up every few minutes,
albeit intermittently. Will attach syslog when it pops up next.

[Bug 988337] Re: two chromium icons on the launcher

2012-07-13 Thread Edwin Lee
This type of thing happens with me as well. I am using Chrome, not
Chromium, but it is the same type of behavior.

My setup:
Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
google-chrome is default browser
google-chrome is also default program to open html files
google-chrome is locked to launcher

To produce:
I open google-chrome and browse
I then locate an html file on my drive in nautilus and double-click to open it

Expected behavior:
locked Google chrome icon shows multiple arrows, indicating that multiple
windows are now open

Actual behavior:
A second chrome icon shows up at the bottom of the launcher, which is attached
to this html file open instance

Ideal behavior:
The single chrome instance opens a new tab showing the html output. I realize
this is likely possible now, and perhaps just related to calling chrome in a
special fashion to indicate it should attach it as a new tab instead of a new
instance. But let's just get the new instance thing working first!! :)

Additional info:
I don't believe I modified any mime or defaults information manually (in the
config files) when setting chrome to the default html opener. Though this
definitely looks like confusion between desktop files/bamf and google-chrome
reporting itself funny when opened from a file.

I have a similar problem, but not just update-manager. TeXMaker also
starts in a maximized size, but offset to account for the unity

the one I use the most so I can't confirm if thats an exhaustive list.

[Bug 1008277] [NEW] Recent menu botches file names

2012-06-03 Thread Edwin Lee
Public bug reported:

Libreoffice
(not sure about what package to check for version, so I just checked core:
- dpkg -s libreoffice-core | grep -i version
Version: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1
  )

I have file names that have underscore characters. On the recent menu,
these are all removed, probably as the string gets sanitized for other
special characters. However, there's no real reason to remove
underscores, that I know of anyway.

Expected:
All file names to be displayed as they exist on the system

Underscores are removed...haven't checked other characters

2012-01-23 Thread Edwin Lee
I can confirm comment #78's type of behavior with programs clearly
running underneath.

[Bug 505727] Re: No mention of howto disable keyboard shortcuts in help

2012-01-07 Thread Edwin Lee
I don't know whether it is appropriate to add comments to an old thread,
but since it is still open ?I guess it is OK?

I encountered this when customizing keyboard shortcuts in gnome-
terminal. There was no obvious way to remove one once it is in place.
I remembered seeing something like this in the main system settings
keyboard shortcuts UI, so I went there and found that `backspace` will
clear the shortcut. It says so right on that UI. So why isn't this
simply added as a label to the gnome-terminal shortcut UI? Seems like
precendence and simplicity would both win here, as well as any newcomer
trying to configure the shortcuts and getting frustrated when they can't
simply clear any!

Thanks!

[Bug 912458] [NEW] Disk Utility Crashes on Benchmark

2012-01-05 Thread Edwin Lee
Public bug reported:

Built 4 identical machines, all work well. When running benchmarks
using disk-utility on all four, one machine of the four fails with a
segfault:

palimpsest[1796]: segfault at 7fffc8278ff8 ip 7f33d60dc084 sp
7fffc8279000 error 6 in
libgobject-2.0.so.0.3000.0[7f33d60a6000+4e000]

The machines are:
120 GB SSD with Ubuntu partition and swap
1 TB storage drive
16 GB memory

I am running:
Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit

gnome-disk-utility:
  Installed: 3.0.2-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.0.2-1ubuntu2

expected:
proper benchmark (all four other machines performed essentially identically)

actually happened:
program disappeared, checked dmesg and found segfault

I have checked that all four machines are hooked up similarly (same SATA
controllers, etc.), and again, only one of the machines fails. And it
fails consistently (same dmesg response).

Thanks!

[Bug 912458] Re: Disk Utility Crashes on Benchmark

2012-01-05 Thread Edwin Lee
Let me slightly correct myself. I went one last time and checked how
each drive was hooked in. On this motherboard, there are 8 SATA ports,
4 are 3G and 4 are 6G. While both of my drives were hooked to the 6G
side (with 6G cables), they weren't in the -same two- that the other
machines were hooked into. For kicks, I moved these drives to the exact
same two ports as the other machines, and lo-and-behold, the benchmark
completed successfully, with results matching the other 3 machines.

So I guess the problem statement is why the specific port matters.

Thanks!

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2011-12-13 Thread Edwin Lee
I am optimistic about this fix, it was interesting to be reading it
along and see the last post was just 4 minutes ago. What is the typical
time frame for this fix to propagate through all the channels and get
pulled with all the regular updates? I'm happy to use his bamfdaemon if
it will be weeks away, but if it isn't that long, I'll just wait until
it comes down normally.

Great work!
Thanks

[Bug 900371] [NEW] Incorrect parsing in Software Center's already installed dialog

2011-12-05 Thread Edwin Lee
Public bug reported:

Greetings,

Dash opened and recommended the package Mathomatic, so I opened this in
Software Center. There is an add-on below, which I checked to download
as well. I then installed the main package.

The window did not appear to have installed the add-on, so I clicked
Apply Changes to install the add-on. A warning popped up saying that
the package is already installed. No problem, but the details in the
dialog were botched.

Package is already installed
There isn't any need for an installation
\/ Details
Package [dbus.String(u'rlwrap')] is already installed

I certainly wasn't trying to install that package name :-P.

Searched software center with a few keywords and did not find a
duplicate.

lsb_release -rd:
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

apt-cache policy software-center:
  Installed: 5.0.2ubuntu0.1
  Candidate: 5.0.2ubuntu0.1
  Version table:
 *** 5.0.2ubuntu0.1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 5.0.1.4 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages

Not a big deal, but should be a quick fix, too. I tried to narrow down
the bug location a bit, but got stuck. I apt-got the source for
software-center and grep'd for the phrase is already installed, but it
did not reveal an obvious location. Perhaps this is a great opportunity
for me to dig deeper and learn more about debugging software so I can
contribute. If anyone has any pointers on how I would have approached
this bug, I'd love to communicate with you.
