The freeze / inability to type seems to occur only after selecting a bit of text with the mouse, then typing to replace that text. [Bug 1784580] Re: evolution cannot type messages
I have figured out the culprit: The "Screen reader" accessibility setting was turned on for some reason, and if I turn it off, this problem goes away. Steps to reproduce this problem: 1. Turn on screen reader 2. Right click an old email in evolution, choose Edit as new message 3. Paint some text with the mouse, start typing to replace it. 4. Continue trying to type even when the window seemingly freezes. 5. The compose window should go blank and show a view similar to the attached screenshot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784580 Title: evolution cannot type messages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1784580/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 680385] [NEW] software-center can autoremove essential packages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center I installed the binary deb for 7Kingdoms AA from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/skfans/files/7KAA%202.14.1/ It is set to depend on libsdl1.2-debian-all. However, ubuntu-desktop depends on libsdl1.2-debian-pulseaudio, which conflicts with the former. If I install 7kaa using gdebi-gtk, it will correctly uninstall ubuntu-desktop and libsdl1.2-debian-pulseaudio. However, if I install it using software center, it will do the same and then start to autoremove everything that depended on ubuntu-desktop, leaving me without GDM, some graphics drivers, etc ... I suggest that software-center would at least WARN people before destroying their system like this. A better way would be not to autoremove certain packages through software center, for example those required to run the current session of the user, or those that ubuntu-desktop depends on. I should also say that the 7kaa package being messed up is not Ubuntu's fault, using libsdl1.2-debian-all as a dependency is not the right way, I think libsdl1.2-debian should be better. Regardless, an easy tool like the software center should be more foolproof. With Ubuntu vanilla drivers, the issue does not occur but performance regresses 30% from Karmic with edgers drivers. -- [G45] (UXA) openarena crashes after 1-20 min of play https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378554 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 567963] [NEW] X crashes when exiting some Wine applications

[Bug 566155] [NEW] Computer locks instead of hibernating when battery is critically low
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: devicekit-power On Lucid, on an EEE PC 901, I waited for the battery to go critical. I first observed warnings saying that battery is low, with options Ok and Cancel. What do these buttons do? Why is this not done through notify-osd? The warnings also popped under my terminal window, so I almost missed them. After the warnings, I got the message saying that battery is critical and that the computer will hibernate unless plugged in, with similar Ok and Cancel options. The computer then blanked the screen, and presented me with the unlock screen with the password field. I expected the computer to hibernate, not to just lock the screen. Note that I use uswsusp for hibernating, and the usual pressing the power button and choosing hibernate from the menu works; only this hibernate when battery is critical does not. pm-hibernate also works. ** Affects: devicekit-power (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Computer locks instead of hibernating when battery is critically low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566155 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 565630] [NEW] empathy accounts right-hand information box has a light background but white text when using a dark theme
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy In empathy in the accounts dialog, the area that shows the status of an account, such as connecting, available, disconnected etc. has a changing background colour. This is red when disconnected, light yellow when available, etc. However, the foreground colour has not been specified. [Bug 560551] Re: volume and mute keys are repeated on Lucid on EEE PC 901
I wonder why dpkg reported those files belonging to the acpi-support package on the eee. [Bug 560551] Re: volume and mute keys are repeated on Lucid on EEE PC 901
This may be related: after a suspend caused by closing the lid, the computer suspends again when resumed. After resuming again, it will not suspend a third time. [Bug 560551] [NEW] volume and mute keys are repeated on Lucid on EEE PC 901
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support On my EEE PC 901 with Lucid, in Gnome, I have XF86AudioMute assigned to Volume Mute, XF86AudioLowerVolume assigned to Volume down, and XF86AudioRaiseVolume assigned to Volume up. When I press those buttons, the correct thing happens. However, if I press any button on the keyboard (letters, space), the same action happens again. For example, Fn-F7 (XF86AudioMute) and space causes mute and then unmute. Fn-F8 (XF86AudioLowerVolume) and then a or any letter causes audio to be lowered two steps. I have worked this around by uncommenting the acpi fakekey command in the respective files in /etc/acpi (mutebtn.sh, voldownbtn.sh, volupbtn.sh), like this: $ cat /etc/acpi/mutebtn.sh #!/bin/sh test -f /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants || exit 0 . /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants #acpi_fakekey $KEY_MUTE Any idea why I need to do this? On my desktop machine, these actions are triggered only once. ** Affects: acpi-support (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- volume and mute keys are repeated on Lucid on EEE PC 901 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560551 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 367175] Re: thunderbird not using indicator applet
The volume control and brightness control and such do not use it. They only use the new black notifications, not the indicator applet. Brightness change, volume control change and such do not appear to the menu that opens when you click on the envelope (indicator applet) in the notification area. If You only want the new black notifications for thunderbird, look here: https://launchpad.net/libnotify- mozilla/+download and download the extension. It can be installed in thunderbird in the usual way, i.e. click Tools - add ons, click Install, and browse to the .xpi file contained in the downloaded tar.gz. To my knowledge, thunderbird does not yet queue events in the indicator applet. And I agree that it should. -- thunderbird not using indicator applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292140] Re: [Intrepid] Screensaver activates during full-screen gameplay
This happens when both compiz and gnome-screensaver are enabled. If either is disabled, f.ex. running metacity with gnome-screensaver, or running compiz without gnome-screensaver, this bug does not occur. -- [Intrepid] Screensaver activates during full-screen gameplay https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292140 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363088] Re: Smart Pinyin input method is missing
** Description changed: Binary package hint: scim in Jaunty, the Smart Pinyin Chinese input method of SCIM is missing. With the same scim-pinyin package installed, the easiest input method for typing simplified Chinese is missing. In Intrepid, the input method is shown when scim-pinyin is installed. How to reproduce: Go to System - Administration - Language settings and install Chinese input support. Also tick the box for using IMEs for input. - Restart the session, and start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. See that the list of input methods has 4 entries for traditional Chinese, none of them with the word pinyin (in English or Chinese) in the name. + Restart the session, and start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. See that the list of input methods has 4 entries for simplified Chinese, none of them with the word pinyin (in English or Chinese) in the name. Then install Chinese support on Intrepid. restart session, start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. Notice the input method for simplified Chinese whose name is written completely in Chinese. Notice that it is not present in Jaunty. Workaround: I downloaded scim-pinyin from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=108454 . I compiled it, adding #include cstring to a few files that did not compile on gcc-4.3.3 otherwise. After that I ran checkinstall, and restarted my session. The scim smart pinyin input method is now visible and works as on Intrepid. However, scim-bridge has stopped working; I only get this input method by choosing scim as the input method from the right-click context menu. [Bug 363088] Re: Smart Pinyin input method is missing
My problem was that the whole module is not shown in SCIM Setup - IM Engines - Global Setup - Chinese (simplified). I just saw four modules, none of them written in Chinese characters, and none enabling intuitive pinyin-based input. [Bug 229535] Re: package linux-backports-modules-2 .6.24-16-generic None failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus post-removal script a retourné une err eur de sortie d'état 1
I think this happens if you delete kernels, then try to remove the modules after deleting /lib/modules/kernelname and so. I think this can be fixed by touching the files that it does not find above. I think this affects all module packages. (ubuntu-modules ,restricted-modules, backports-modules). While removing modules, the package could be lenient and allow clean exit even if the folders do not exist. -- package linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-16-generic None failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus post-removal script a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 229535] Re: package linux-backports-modules-2 .6.24-16-generic None failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus post-removal script a retourné une err eur de sortie d'état 1
I think it tries to generate an initrd believing that the kernel still exists, and since you change the modules, it might be necessary to generate the initrd so old modules will not be included in it. Of course, if the kernel does not exist, that is pointless. -- package linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-16-generic None failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus post-removal script a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage
Interestingly enough, AccelMethod exa causes this on my laptop. The laptop is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 1G memory and an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (R250) sharing the main memory. However, AccelMethod XAA and having RenderAccel true fixes it. exa was faster on Edgy. I hope this helps someone.
