[Bug 1903894] [NEW] failure to display videos at major websites using FF 82 after upgrade to 20.04

2020-11-11 Thread Eric Anderson
Public bug reported:

my FF will not properly display videos at facebook website, vimeo
website, twitter videos and animated gifs. several separate websites
exhibit problem. is it Ubuntu drivers? is it FF codecs?

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04.01LTS. when I first installed Unbuntu
18, I had similar problem with FF. I don't remember what I had to do to
resolve problem then, but now I have problem again with this upgrade
install. I tend to believe that Ubuntu is culprit because FF
automatically upgrades itself.

is this OS or the FF application?
I have not tried loading other browsers to see if they exhibit same problem.

[Bug 653132] Re: Add Printer dialog requests root password if user is not in Configure Printers group

2014-08-18 Thread Eric Anderson
I'm seeing a very similar problem. I ran into this both upgrading from
13.04 to 13.10 and then from 13.10 to trusty. Specifically, I see the
following:

Setting up cups (1.7.2-0ubuntu1.1) ...
Updating PPD files for cups ...
Updating PPD files for foomatic-db-compressed-ppds ...
Password for root on localhost?
Password for root on localhost?
Password for root on localhost?
Password for root on localhost?
[Repeated in response to any input I supply, including ^c and ^d. ]

The only solution I found was to kill the installation process,
manually remove foomatic-db-compressed-ppds, and then attempt to resume
the installation with dpkg and apt-get directly.

[Bug 1355374] [NEW] Password leaked in cleartext!

2014-08-11 Thread Eric Anderson
Public bug reported:

I tried to run gnome-rdp without rdesktop being installed. This
produced a log message reporting the failure, which included the clear-
text password on the command line. This is a major security issue!

First, the log messages themselves expose the password. Second, if the
password is passed as a command-line argument, that information may be
leaked to anyone who can see a process list on the computer.

[Bug 506399] Re: [i686] soffice crashes when called from mutt (using mailcap entry)

2013-06-13 Thread Eric Anderson
This really should be fixed: It's a trivial fix (cd
/usr/lib/mime/packages;  sudo sed -i 's/-no-oosplash/--nologo/g' *; sudo
update-mime) and it negatively affects users who - for whatever reason -
are using openoffice.

[Bug 1027418] [NEW] Functions from upstream missing in package

2012-07-21 Thread Eric Anderson
Public bug reported:

The libkrb5 package in 12.04 looks like it's missing some functions.
That sounds weird, so let me explain:

I have the following packages installed:
$ dpkg-query -l 'libkrb*'
[snip]
ii  libkrb5-26-heimdal1.6~git20120311.dfsg.1-2  Heimdal Kerberos -
libraries
ii libkrb5-3 1.10+dfsg~beta1-2 MIT Kerberos runtime
libraries
ii libkrb5-dev 1.10+dfsg~beta1-2 Headers and development
libraries for MIT Kerberos
ii libkrb5support0 1.10+dfsg~beta1-2 MIT Kerberos runtime
libraries - Support library

The functions 'krb5_cccol_lock' and 'krb5_cccol_unlock' are declared
in /usr/include/krb5/krb5.h, from libkrb5-dev. When I try to use them
in a program that links against libkrb5, I get an undefined symbol
error at run time. I've looked at every .so file defined in any of
those packages (using nm and nm -D), and those symbols aren't mentioned
in any of those files!

When I build krb5-1.10.2 from the MIT source, those symbols are defined
in libkrb5.so.3.3.

Does anyone have any idea what's up?

[Bug 757011] Re: Keep in launcher option for Emacs does not save over restarts

2012-06-10 Thread Eric Anderson
I have what seems to be the same issue, except that -- regardless of how
I start it -- emacs doesn't appear in the launcher. I've even tried
explicitly addding 'emacs23.desktop' to the gconf setting string, to no
effect. (This is on Ubuntu 12.04).

It doesn't really matter, but it's a little irritating.

[Bug 625534] [NEW] program always exits with segfault

2010-08-27 Thread Eric Anderson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pstoedit

Calling pstoedit with any arguments causes it do some processing and
then segfault. The segfault appears to come after normal processing,
at least for simple postscript files or -help. I have some more
complicated files which pstoedit does not succeed, but I have no idea
whether that is related to the segfault or not.

Here are some examples:

$ pstoedit -f xfig test2.eps test2.fig
pstoedit: version 3.50 / DLL interface 108 (build Jan 25 2010 - release build -
g++ 4.4.3) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2009 Wolfgang Glunz
Segmentation fault
# Resulting file is good
$ pstoedit -V
unknown option -V
pstoedit: version 3.50 / DLL interface 108 (build Jan 25 2010 - release build -
g++ 4.4.3) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2009 Wolfgang Glunz
No output format specified (-f option) and format could not be deduced from
suffix of output file since no output file name was given
Usage: pstoedit -f format inputfile outputfile or run pstoedit -help to get
a complete list available options.
Segmentation fault
$ pstoedit -f hpgl foo.eps foo.hpgl
pstoedit: version 3.50 / DLL interface 108 (build Jan 25 2010 - release build -
g++ 4.4.3) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2009 Wolfgang Glunz
Info: This HPGL driver is not very elaborated - consider using -f plot-hpgl
instead.
Segmentation fault
# File is no good.
