Re: [Bug 220722] Re: [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC
Sorry, I don't have any. The only thing I can figure is that, for some reason, OpenOffice won't write the changes for the JRE to the applicable config file. It's like it has amnesia; you tell it what you want and it forgets. I suppose if you knew where that information was stored, you, theoretically, make the changes manually, but that is certainly not the preferred option. OOo does see the JREs, so that, apparently, isn't the problem. There is also the issue of the JDBC being recognized, but I think that has more to do with OOo not making the changes to the JRE. Reinstalling the sun-java6-jre with apt did not help either. I am using sun-java6-jre version 6-06-0ubuntu1. Very annouying - any advice how to narrow down the root-cause? -- [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220722 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Lost South of Nowhere, East of Eden, On the Waterfront, Far From the Madding Crowd -- [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 220722] Re: [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC
openoffice.org-java-common is already installed, as is the meta package (i.e. openoffice.org) after I uninstalled OOo and reinstalled it with the meta package. As a side note, I installed sun-java6-bin, sun-java6-jdk, and sun-java6-jre and no affect. OOo will list them, but when I select one of the (now) three JREs, OOo does not retain that selection. [Bug 220722] [NEW] [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I recently had to reinstall Ubuntu, but before I did so, I backed up my MySQL databases. When I did the reinstall, I decided to upgrade from 7.10 (Gutsy) to 8.04 (Hardy). I reinstalled MySQL, OpenOffice Base, libmysql-java and the Java JRE, but when I try to set up OOo to connect to my MySQL database using JDBC, I get the following error message: OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Java. I did that and have two JREs to choose from: Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.5.0_15 (location: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.15/jre) and Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0._05 (location:/usr/local/bin/jre1.6.0_05). The first one is from the Ubuntu repository and the second is a local install from Sun's website. I have tried selecting first one, than the other, each time going through the Database Wizard and coming up with the same error message each time. Also, I tried to select one JRE, closed the dialog box, reopened Tools - Option - OpenOffice.org - Java without closing and no JRE was selected. This is really getting highly annoying since I am using OOo Base as my front end for data entry to my MySQL database for work. If I can't connect to the database, I can't enter data and that leaves me in a major bind. I have the following installed: libmysql-java version: 5.1.5+dfsg-2 sun-java-bin version 1.5.0-15-0ubuntu1 sun-java-jre version 1.5.0-15-0ubuntu1 openoffice.org-Base version 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu5 ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [hardy] OOo Base will not connect to MySQL using JDBC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
