[Bug 1042388] Re: qemu: Unsupported syscall: 257 (timer_create)

2014-08-23 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Unfortunately it doesn't work with armhf on amd64 linux-user.

Use the test program from comment #27 I get:

> schroot -c armhf -- ./timer_test_armhf
About to call host's timer_create (0, 0x7fff6ee80720, 0x625b1f40)
Host's timer_create returns -22
Failed to create timer: Invalid argument
qemu: uncaught target signal 6 (Aborted) - core dumped
E: Child terminated by signal ‘Aborted’

(Yes I made very certain the schroot was using my freshly compiled
version of qemu-arm-static).

[Bug 1042388] Re: qemu: Unsupported syscall: 257 (timer_create)

2014-08-08 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
I've been looking at it over the last week or so and I have submitted a
patch toe the qemu-devel mailing list to fix another timer_create()
problem sometime in the last week.

Unfortunately the test case @pittit submitted is far harder to support
than the original test case. In this case the timer_create() syscall
gets passed pointers to functions and data in the target's address space
and I have not figured out how to handle that yet.

[Bug 1042388] Re: qemu: Unsupported syscall: 257 (timer_create)

2014-02-10 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
The fix that was commited to the Qemu git tree fixed the original test
case I had. @pittit then found another test case that fails and I intend
to fix that when I find a good chunk of free time. Problem is I only
work on Wemu sporadically and it takes me quite a bit of time to get up
to speed when I return to work on it.

Thanks for the test case Martin. Problem confirmed.

The issue is that timer_create allows a number of different callback
mechanisms and I had only implemented the one I need.

 Working on it now.

Actually the problem turned out to be that I didn't have precise-updates
and precise-backports missings from sources.list.

> you?

It was never installed to begin with, because without p-updates and p-backports
the installer pointed to a old version of the plugin which was missing
from the download site.

The biggest problem is that the flash install fails silently.

[Bug 487981] Re: compiling 32 bit apps on 64 bit system results in inconsistent value for sf_count_t

2010-10-10 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
You didn't state it, but I assume that you're on a amd64 system and have
installed the 32 bit version of the library.

If that is the case, then the file /usr/include/sndfile.h is for the
amd64 system. However, sndfile.h is an autogenerated file which defines
sf_count_t to be of type off_t on 64 bit Linux and loff_t (if its
available) on 32 bit Linux.

Your fix works for Linux but may not work for other systems.

[Bug 595342] Re: Avago touchscreen detected but not working

2010-06-17 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo

Running an upstream 2.6.34 kernel.org kernel, the touchscreen starts to do
something, but not anything correct or useful. Touching the screen causes
nautilus to open a bunch of Trash browser windows and continue opening more
until nautilus was killed (I was logged in via ssh as well).

[Bug 587846] [NEW] Configuration defaults not installed correctly.

2010-05-31 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This problem has been reported numerous times, but in other cases
either:

  a) The disk was full

or

  b) Uninstalling gnome-power-manager, rebooting and re-installing it
fixed it.

In this case, the disks are not even 50% full and I did:

0) apt-get purge gnome-power-manager
1) reboot
2) apt-get install gnome-power-manager ubuntu-desktop
3) reboot

and the problem remains.

In my case, this turned out to be a motherboard bios bug:

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12620

After harrassing the motherboard manufacturer we got a bios update
that fixed this issue.

[Bug 484630] [NEW] pb-hibernate fails to hibernate machine one time in 3 or 4.

2009-11-17 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

I run pm-hinernate in an xterm using 'sudo pm-hibernate'.

Normally the following happens:

  0) the screen goes black.
  1) The screen is restored and I see the pm-hibernate in the xterm but it
hasn't finished yet.
  2) The screen blanks again.
  3) The machine is now hibernated.

About one time in 3 or 4 pm-hibernate terminates afte step 1) above and
doesn't hibernate.

[Bug 459557] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties crashes if given an invalid/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename path

2009-10-23 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

If I use gconftool to set a background picture without a file path name
like this:

gconftool --type string --set
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename whatever.jpg

gnome-appearance-properties will crash if I run it and then select the
background tab.

If I run gconftool with a full patchname:

gconftool --type string --set
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename /home/user/whatever.jpg

then gnome-appearance properties doesn't crash.

[Bug 455991] Re: policyd-spf crashing with IndexError

2009-10-20 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
The problem is This code:

sender_domain = string.split(sender, '@', 1)
if spf.domainmatch(reject_domain_list, sender_domain[1]):

If sender has no '@' character, sender_domain ends up as a single
element list and trying to index it by [1] results in an IndexError
exception.

A robust solution to this (available for python >= 2.5) is:

sender_domain = sender.partition ('@')[2]
if spf.domainmatch(reject_domain_list, sender_domain):

The parition method applied to the sender string is guaranteed to return
a 3 element tuple of which the [2] indexing grabs the last element.

I've hacked the policy-spf script on my incoming mail gateway as above
and its been running for 20 plus hours without a hitch.

[Bug 456112] [NEW] xserver locks up after coming out of hibernate (1 time in 3 or 4)

2009-10-20 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I suspend my laptop using "sudo s2disk" in an xterm.

Since the last xserver-xorg-video-intel and kernel update a couple of
days ago i've had three xserver hangs when coming out of hibernate.
Everything looks like its ok in the text console, it switches to X and
then about 3 seconds latter swaps back to the text console. Once in
this state the keyboard doesn't respond. Only way out is to pull the
power and remove the laptop battery.

Does that mean that xserver-xorg-video-intel should specify a minimum
ubuntu kernel version?

No sign of the prublem with 2.6.31-14-generic. I tried both pm-hibernate
and s2disk.

Thanks.

[Bug 454999] Re: video corruption after coming out of s2disk

2009-10-18 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
slangasek on #ubunt-devel suggested I also try using pm-hibernate.

I did the following:

  1) restarted X to get rid of existing screen corruption.
  2) logged in and made sure there was no corruption.
  3) In an xterm ran "sudo pm-hibernate"
  4) let the machine shutdown.
  5) powered up again.

On power up there was similar (but not identical) screen corruption as in the
screen shot I attached :

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33916101/screen-corruption.png

The same problem occurs if I do "sudo s2disk" instead of "sudo pm-
hibernate".
