Just want to add that this exact same issue affects Veeam Agent for
Linux when dkms builds the veeamsnap module, and @Lurchman's solution
works to solve it.

I've been having this same issue on ubuntu mate 17.10 on a thinkpad

Just tried #14 suggestion (adding noibpb) and it fixed it here.

2013-05-27 Thread FaberfoX
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 771448 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771448

For those looking for a temporary fix, this is what I had to do:

Enable the compiz-dev ppa:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:smspillaz/compiz-dev

Pin this ppa at a higher priority, as packages are not tagged properly and
won't upgrade existing ones otherwise:
Create file: /etc/apt/preferences.d/smspillaz-compiz-dev.conf with this content:
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-smspillaz-compiz-dev
Pin-Priority: 950

I messed a lot before figuring the pinning out, so maybe you won't need
to, but I had to apt-get purge all previous compiz packages before
reinstalling, trying to upgrade caused breaks. Remember to make a backup
of your preferences before purging!

[Bug 974242] Re: Compiz is moving windows against my will

2012-08-28 Thread FaberfoX
For those of you experiencing the issue again after the last compiz
update, pinning Oli's PPA as explained in #48 works, simpler
instructions are below:

Open a terminal, copy and paste:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences.d/compiz-place-patch.pref

In the gedit window, paste:

Package: compiz-plugins
Pin: origin ppa.launchpad.net
Pin-Priority: 600

Package: compiz-plugins-default
Pin: origin ppa.launchpad.net
Pin-Priority: 600

Save the file, close gedit.

Paste in the terminal:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
compiz --replace

Trying to set any of the non-numeric props triggers the reported error:

The same error is reported for :

xrandr --output TV-1 --set subconnector Composite

From the error it seems like it's expecting a numeric parameter for the
mode prop, passing 0, 1, 2 and 3 return the same error. The numeric
parameters work, like:

xrandr --output TV-1 --set flicker reduction 100

After installing the xorg-edgers ppa the error is still present.

[Bug 495562] Re: TP-Link TL-WN821N wifi usb adapter - no wireless N mode

2011-08-13 Thread FaberfoX
I'm on a TL-WN822N that also uses the ar9170usb driver by default. On 11.04,
simply blacklisting ar9170usb makes the kernel use the carl9170 driver and
everything works great with it.
For new users, this can be achieved with the following command from a terminal:

echo blacklist ar9170usb | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-
ar9170.conf

After rebooting you should check on connection information that the
driver is carl9170 instead of ar9170usb.

Could someone confirm this also works for the TL-WN821N?

[Bug 407426] Re: gdm should not add to resolution switches

2009-10-09 Thread FaberfoX
There's a lot of talk about this in many bug reports(#446412, #394273,
#286001), and as far as I can see, with kms enabled, gdm is the one switching
resolutions, xsplash is right, gdm messes it and then once it's done X returns
to the original res set at startup.
The ideal solution would be for gdm not to change resolution, as kms is setting
both displays at their right value.

[Bug 270997] Re: intrepid regression: rdesktop overrides window manger key binding even when -K is used

2009-10-09 Thread FaberfoX
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 251709 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251709

Yannick, you should downgrade your package to the one I'm attaching,
just uninstall the current version and install this one.

After that, you should pin the package to this version until this gets fixed
(if ever...)
To do that, create a file /etc/apt/preferences with the following contents:

Package: rdesktop
Pin: version 1.6.0-0ubuntu2
Pin-Priority: 1001

And finally symlink this file to /var/lib/synaptic/preferences as apt
and synaptic use separate files for pinning but with the same syntax

sudo ln -s /var/lib/synaptic/preferences /etc/apt/preferences

ii libglu1-mesa 7.4-0ubuntu3 The OpenGL utility library (GLU)

I've enabled Mario's ppa but get no updates as it seems to be in sync with
jaunty-updates now.
Disabling dri makes it work but after video is played I get display corruption.
Closing and restarting mythfrontend does not fix the corruption requiring X to

[Bug 287670] Re: there's no services-tab in my bluetooth-applet - bluetooth-services are up and functional.

2009-03-22 Thread FaberfoX
Running jaunty up to date, services tab is nowhere to be found.
Does this mean there's no way to turn services on and off from gnome?
Talk to upstream? Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous?
A clear loss of functionality with a won't fix tag, amazing!

[Bug 290493] Re: vinagre fullscreen toggle is permanent

2009-03-20 Thread FaberfoX
I'm still having issues with fullscreen on latest 2.26, looks like a
regression.
If the app is closed while in full screen a restart shows the full gray screen
with no menus.
F11 does not work then, workaround is to open a connection with Ctrl+N and then
F11 can be used.
It gets worse when shortcuts are disabled as then there's no way to open a
connection and it has to be fixed thru gconf.

** Changed in: vinagre (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released = New

Should have made it clear, it worked before last update to 2.26.0,
running up to date jaunty.

[Bug 117132] Re: Firefox ignores gnome theme's specific menu bar text color

2009-03-19 Thread FaberfoX
This is also happening on Jaunty with the just added New Wave theme and daily
firefox 3.1
Can be fixed editing userChrome.css but needs to be redone for every theme
change.

[Bug 211491] Re: subtitle file not loaded for files on smb share

2008-04-06 Thread FaberfoX
I can confirm this, running hardy beta with up to date patches, totem
freezes when .srt is present.

totem:
  Installed: 2.22.0-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.22.0-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.22.0-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://espelhos.edugraf.ufsc.br hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Everything is right when running from fuse path.

[Bug 197929] Re: Backlight adjustment no longer works on Thinkpad X61s

2008-03-25 Thread FaberfoX
I'm not sure if this is related, but on the transition from alpha6 to beta, I
also lost the display turning off after the screen saver. This is on a T61, set
with screensaver after 5 minutes and screen off (in power management) after 10.
Can anyone confirm if you have this same new behaviour?

[Bug 193232] Re: Remote Samba shares not showing up in Nautilus through network:///

2008-03-21 Thread FaberfoX
I just wanted to confirm this bug on a fresh install of alpha6 and after
all patches. Both network:/// and smb:/// show no servers. Network has 1
pc running vista, 1 running WHS + another laptop running gutsy. smbtree
returns the full workgroup list after entering password.
smb://server/share works and shows contents properly.
