[Bug 1168961] [NEW] Linux kernel 3.2.0-40-generic update causes regression, does not boot anymore

2013-04-14 Thread Fabian Köster
Public bug reported:

The latest kernel update caused a regression on my Samsung R60plus
notebook.

The system refuses to boot like it did before, the screen just stays
black after the bios messages.

Workaround: When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del the system does reboot and the
Grub menu is shown, I can then just press Enter (booting the latest
kernel 3.2.0-40-generic) and the system boots fine. It is just a problem
with the instant booting without entering the grub menu before.

The problem also disappears when I manually set GRUB_DEFAULT=2 in
/etc/default/grub, setting the standard kernel back to 3.2.0-39-generic.

Please let me know if you need more information

I am testing a multiseat setup with precise:

One XServer is running on intel graphics card, a second one is running

[Bug 885394] Re: Greeter screen resolution too small for USB monitors (multiseat)

2012-04-07 Thread Fabian Köster
I used the workaround from bug #780791 to get rid of this problem in
precise:

Create file /usr/local/bin/dl-workaround.sh with following content:

#! /bin/bash

XRANDR=`which xrandr`
if [ x$XRANDR != x ]; then
  $XRANDR -o 0
fi

Then execute sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/dl-workaround.sh and put the
following line into /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf in the section responsible
for the usb-seat:

display-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/dl-workaround.sh

[Bug 226885] Re: rdesktop not compiled with smartcard support

2012-04-07 Thread Fabian Köster
I can confirm that the following steps fix this problem:

1.) wget
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/rdesktop_1.7.1-1_amd64.deb
2.) sudo dpkg -i
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/rdesktop_1.7.1-1_amd64.deb
3.) sudo apt-get install pcscd
4.) Edit /etc/init.d/pcscd and comment out line exit 0
5.) sudo /etc/init.d/pcscd restart

[Bug 948925] [NEW] Attached USB printer not listed

2012-03-07 Thread Fabian Köster
Public bug reported:

A Kyocera FS-2020D printer is attached via USB to my system and is also
listed by lsusb but I cannot add it to CUPS because it is neither listed
by the system-config-printer tool nor by cups' web-interface. This is a
regression because it used to work in Lucid.

Please let me know if you need more information.

[Bug 936893] [NEW] xorg segfaults with multiseat configuration

2012-02-20 Thread Fabian Köster
Public bug reported:

I am trying to enable a multiseat-configuration with Precise but Xorg
segfaults, probably because of some of the input-device declarations.
This configuration works with Ubuntu Oneiric so it is probably a
regression.

If I do not use a xorg.conf the xserver starts fine (of course without
multiseat setup then).

[Bug 936893] Re: xorg segfaults with multiseat configuration

2012-02-20 Thread Fabian Köster
I would like to generate a backtrace for this and according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing there should be a file
/etc/X11/core but there isn't. How to do it then?

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher

2011-10-23 Thread Fabian Köster
@Rhialto:

I dont see why this is a security risk to show all users. On UNIX-like
systems unprivileged users usually can read /etc/passwd and therefore
all user-names on this machine (unless they are managed by LDAP or
similar).
