[Bug 2047758] Re: Cannot save PDFs due to PikePDF incompatibility, solved & patched upstream

2024-04-01 Thread Fabio M. Panico
UPGRADE pdfarranger via SNAP:

I'm on Ubuntu 22.04.04 and I was facing the same issue, having installed
pdfarranger 1.8.2 via command line apt install.

Removing it (with sudo apt remove --purge pdfarranger) and reinstalling
via snap (sudo snap install pdfarranger) I got version 1.10.1 and fixed
the issue.

[Bug 2047758] Re: Cannot save PDFs due to PikePDF incompatibility, solved & patched upstream

2024-03-15 Thread Fabio M. Panico
Hi, I would like to say that I'm facing the same problem. Hope it's ok
to add this comment into this bug report.

I recently made a fresh install of ubuntu 22.04-04. And when trying to
combine 2 pdfs, PDF-Arranger gives me this error: "use
pikepdf.PDF.pages interface to copy pages from one PDF to another"

Installed versions are:
pdfarranger 1.8.2-1
libqpdf28 10.6.3-1

I don't know to tell if pdfarranger is using this libqpdf or another
version, but if someone could explain I'm willing to do it.

[Bug 1992187] Re: hplip not working after install in 22.04, python error

2024-03-12 Thread Fabio M. Panico
Could not understand how to implement the workaround suggested by
Alterbo Donato #4. I would appreciate if you could clarify.

But uninstalling the package available at Ubuntu 22.04 repository and
installing the package downloaded from HP Developers
(https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip)
worked fine for me.

[Bug 1650325] Re: Make Link missing from right click menu

2016-12-15 Thread Fabio M. Panico
I appreciate the effort in providing a solution to this problem.

But, as I came to know, the "make link" is not really missing from
Nautilus, but just disable by default.

All it takes is getting into Nautilus Preferences > Behavior (tab) and
check the box for "Link Creation". After that, "create link" option
comes back to contextual menu.

[Bug 1553464] Re: obex-check-device crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI_____strtoul_l_internal()

2016-06-02 Thread Fabio M. Panico
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1553358 ***

It seems like this bug is affecting lots of people - and also me. I
would like to contribute, but I cannot access the page of bug #1553358
for its private ("This page does not exist, or you may not have
permission to see it."). I don't know the reason why it was marked as
private, but if someone could verify and, if possible, make it public,
it could help debug this problem. Thanks

[Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2016-01-12 Thread Fabio M. Panico
Clean install of Ubuntu 15.10 x64 on a T440p and middle button would not
scroll.

After having installed xserver-xorg-input-libinput middle button works
for scrolling (with track button). But I don't have the ability to tap-
to-click (only regular click makes a click).

[Bug 1400460] [NEW] slingshot won't lauch (unable to read font filename)

2014-12-08 Thread Fabio M. Panico
Public bug reported:

Slingshot will not launch.

When I try to lauch with the GUI, nothing happen. But when I try to
lauch via terminal there's an error message.

Below, I give details on what's happening.

I've install slingshot with apt-get install slingshot on a fresh installed
and updated system (Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, but same thing happened on Ubuntu
14.04).
When I try to lauch slingshot using terminal, I receive the following error:

fabio@ThinkPad-T60 ~ $ slingshot
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/games/slingshot, line 61, in module
class Game:
File /usr/games/slingshot, line 67, in Game
Settings.font = pygame.font.Font(get_data_path(FreeSansBold.ttf), 14)
IOError: unable to read font filename

I've looked into the above-mentioned file (/usr/games/slingshot) but found
nothing strange to my non-developer eyes.
I've looked into the Internet, but could not find a solution to this problem.
I've try to change the FreeSansBold.ttf to FreeSans.ttf (which apparently is
installed in my system, because I can see/use it whithin libreoffice-writer),
in all 4 places the font is mentioned on the file (/usr/games/slingshot) but
the problem persist.

Hope this help track down the problem.
I can provide further info if needed.

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2013-11-18 Thread Fabio M. Panico
This bug also affects me and I agree with #15, the problem seems to be
the thumbnails preview.

I have a folder with 700 small .jpg files (something between 160Kb and
400Kb), totaling 238Mb.

Nautilus:
- with thumbnails enable takes approximately 80 seconds to stop loading all
files.
- with thumbnails disable, it only takes 4 seconds

Thunar:
- takes 1 second, it doesn't really matter (at least to my eyes) if thumbnails
are enable or not.

I love Nautilus' features and integration with Gnome, but this problem
has been a real pain...

(using Ubuntu 13.10 64bit, on a Core i5-3427U CPU @ 1.80GHz × 4 with 8Gb
of RAM - ThinkPad X1)

[Bug 707233] Re: vlc will not allow pasting a URL with spaces into the Network Stream dialog

2013-08-17 Thread Fabio M. Panico
I can confirm this problem still exists under VLC 2.0.8 running on
Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit.

The URL I try to open is mms://stream.stj.gov.br/tv/A PESSOA QUE É JUIZ.wmv
available at
http://www.nancyandrighi.stj.jus.br/webstj/gabinete/default.asp?id_gab=1

Replacing spaces with %20 also didn't help.

[Bug 927515] Re: Thunderbird stuck at 100% CPU

2013-08-02 Thread Fabio M. Panico
I also experience a high CPU usage (generally around 70%, measured by
top), with:

- Thunderbir 17.0.7
- Ubuntu 13.04 32bit
on a ThinkPad T60 with Intel T2400 @ 1.83GHz × 2

I have several e-mail accounts on TB (total of 5, being 3 imap
gmail/yahoo and 2 private imap/pop).

I don't know if this is related to this bug.

BUT I've notice something very simple that sort of solves the issue
for me, apparently having to do to what is selected in the lateral
folder pane:

1. IF I leave the INBOX of any account selected (or actually any other
FOLDER), even though activity manager could show no recent activity for,
say, the last 10 minutes, I see a turning wheel on TB's e-mail tab and I
notice TB takes about 70% of CPU (measured by top). See attached
screenshot.

2. On the other hand, IF I select no INBOX/FOLDER but simply click on
one account (lateral pane - see attached screenshot), TB CPU usage drops
to 2%, coming up eventually to 20-30% of CPU for a few seconds, every
40 seconds or so, I believe when checking for new messages.

I'm only a user with no technical knowledge, but IMHO, it seems that TB
actually keeps constantly updating the messages/account if and
INBOX/internal FOLDER is selected, even when no activity is registered
by activity manager. Could it be?

Nexus 4 having a hard time connecting to Ubuntu 12.10

Followed this tutorial with no luck (http://forum.xda-

Only way I could transfer files was using gMTP, but is not as easy as
auto-mount...

Please give a thought to this issue!
