[Bug 591577] Re: Applications in second display are hidden when accessing the menu
I *believe* that the reason is the following: seeing as applications running in the UNR environment are always maximized (by default) and that the Netbook launcher works on fullscreen, the only way the the system has to show (send to the top layer) the launcher when asked is by ignoring the 'always on top' flag of every other window. The problem is that (A) it doesn't know that the other windows are in different displays and that they should not be touched OR (B) the launcher assumes that it is present in all of the displays, either way it doesn't work as one would expect. @Jani Uusitalo If it helps, I work a lot with the netbook and a projector (second display) and the classic Ubuntu desktop did the trick for me. [Bug 591577] [NEW] Applications in second display are hidden when accessing the menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbook-launcher I have an Acer Aspire One, and started working with two displays. Every time I access the main launcher screen (clicking in the upper left corner on the Ubuntu logo), all the applications that are positioned in the second display disappear even if Always on top is activated. It might be a good idea to warn the users about this, after all nouveau kicks in and everything works fine, but one might expect the proprietary driver working. I made a clean installation of Karmic, load the proprietary drivers and then upgraded using today's daily build of Lucid Alternate CD. After rebooting the proprietary driver was no longer installed (steps 11 and forward of the test case). Robert, thanks for the update! I thought that that should be the expected behaviour (as I stated in comment #6), nonetheless that was not what originally happened (at first nouveau didn't kick in, and it was necessary to manually modify the xorg.conf file, as you see in comment #7).
