[Bug 1220572] Re: Unity dash empty on Edubuntu

2013-10-21 Thread Felix Dreissig
This also broke my system after and update to the final 13.10 release,
so it doesn't look fixed to me. Probably related to #1233029, as the
solution for me was manually installing 'unity-scope-home'.

I did that because it apparently covers the same problem.
I unfortunately couldn't reopen this one, presumably due to missing

[Bug 1227518] [NEW] CVE-2013-4315: Directory traversal with ssi template tag

2013-09-19 Thread Felix Dreissig
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Django's template language includes two methods of including and
rendering one template inside another:

The {% include %} tag takes a template name, and uses Django's template loading
mechanism (which is restricted to the directories specified in the
TEMPLATE_DIRS setting, as with any other normal template load in Django).
The {% ssi %} tag, which takes a file path and includes that file's contents
(optionally parsing and rendering it as a template).

Since the ssi tag is not restricted to TEMPLATE_DIRS, it represents a
security risk; the setting ALLOWED_INCLUDE_ROOTS thus is required, and
specifies filesystem locations from which ssi may read files.

[Bug 1176347] [NEW] arpspoof doesn't work without specifying target

2013-05-04 Thread Felix Dreissig
Public bug reported:

If the '-t' argument is missing, arpspoof should, according to its manpage,
posion all hosts on the LAN.
However, as of dsniff_2.4b1+debian-22 (available in quantal and raring), that
does no longer work. arpspoof will start just fine, but never actually send out
any ARP replies and also don't log anything to the console.

Everything works alright with dsniff_2.4b1+debian-21.1 (available in

[Bug 214786] Re: Apple USB ISO keyboard has incorrectly swapped keys

2012-12-20 Thread Felix Dreissig
Before I speculate on more details about this problem, let me add that
pdecat's persistent fix works fine but requires an additional `update-
initramfs -u -k all` for the option to be set correctly.

I own two Apple aluminium keyboards of different generations (German
layout) , one MacBook Air and one old Early-2008 white MacBook. While
the laptops seem to work fine for quite some time now, both alu
keyboards experienced this issue in different Ubuntu releases; at least
one of them always suffers from it up until today. (Count this as
confirmed for Quantal.)

In the past, I used the xmodmap fix from above, but that didn't work out now
because of Bug #1016996. Since I didn't know about pdecat's fix at first, I
dived a bit into the shady areas of XKB configuration and found out that XKB
offers options called apple:badmap and 'apple:goodmap' targeting the exact
same problem. Those are listed in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base and
`[…]/evdev`, but not in the respective `.lst` and `.xml` files and therefore
don't show up in the GNOME keyboard options dialog.
When it comes to persisent configuration, I didn't succeed in settings the
options via `xorg.conf` as described by [1] and [2]. Running `setxkbmap […]`
at session start through `gnome-session-properties` works in principal, but
seems to conflict with settings from the GNOME keyboard options. (Only one of
them will be set due to what seems to be some kind of race-condition.) What
worked for me was running the command via `.profile`, but just then I came
across pdecat's much simpler and system-wide approach :-).

As there seem to be different generations of Apple keyboards with different
behaviours out there, I believe that there won't be a general fix for this
problem.
What should however be done in my opinion, is offering a simple way to get the
right configuration. I think the GNOME keyboard options are the right place to
do that, and therefore the apple:badmap option should be added to the `.lst`
and `.xml` files like described above. That's why I'm adding xkeyboard-config
to the affected packages.

[Bug 549799] Re: [LUCID] update-notifier no longer shows update icon even with auto_launch=false

2012-05-09 Thread Felix Dreissig
With the introduction of Unity in 11.04, the behaviour of update notification
has again changed fundamentally: The notification area icon was entirely
dismissed and the Update Manager now shows up in the Unity launcher on new
updates (with its window in the background).
I'm not sure about other desktop environments like GNOME 3 or Xfce, but for the
official Ubuntu desktop this bug no longer seems to be an issue.

[Bug 742530] Re: notication area only appears in one monitor

2011-12-22 Thread Felix Dreissig
To my surprise, it looks like this is fixed for Oneiric.

I unfortunately can't provide a screenshot and to reproduce you will need at
least two monitors as well as a Natty system, but on Natty it used to behave as
described above: The Unity panel's emulation of the old GNOME2 notification
area wasn't shown on all monitors (even if there were multiple panels), but
only on one.
Which monitor that one was, iirc changed from the most left one to the
primary one. But I'm absolutely not sure about the last point, might also be
that still the most left one was used.

[Bug 783129] [NEW] gksu doesn't remember password on Natty

2011-05-15 Thread Felix Dreissig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gksu

Since upgrading my Ubuntu Desktop installation to 11.04, gksu doesn't
remember an once-entered password for 15 minutes but instead asks for it
every time.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch an application which is started via gksu, e.g. Synaptic.
2. Launch another application which is started via gksu, e.g. GParted.
OR: Close Synaptic and launch it right again.
3. The password popup will show up again.

This is reproducible on my upgraded system as well as on a clean install.
There are no special sudo timeout settings, normal command-line sudo even
works fine with a 15-minute timeout before showing the password prompt again.

'gconftool -R /apps/gksu' also reports default settings:
 save-keyring = session
 prompt = false
 disable-grab = false
 force-grab = false
 sudo-mode = true
 display-no-pass-info = false
 save-to-keyring = false

[Bug 737015] Re: white-listed indicators appear on wrong display

2011-05-15 Thread Felix Dreissig
Related: Bug #742530

BTW: How did you remove the panel from the second monitor?
Was this the default behaviour in Unity preview versions or is there some trick?

[Bug 755230] Re: graphical glitches in unity (screen not being repainted)

Confirmed on Intel graphics, so definitely not Nvidia-related.

[Bug 750481] Re: In a double monitor setup the Unity top panel in the second screen is cut at the right

2011-05-15 Thread Felix Dreissig
I can exactly confirm the behaviour described by franco_bez as well.
Dual-monitor setup with Intel graphics.

According to http://askubuntu.com/q/42940 this also happens after waking
up from suspend (not tested by myself).

[Bug 550222] Re: Firefox interface language set to LANG, ignores LANGUAGE

2010-09-27 Thread Felix Dreissig
The fix works fine for me, but are you sure that this is really a
Debian-specific problem?
I have absolutely no idea of the Mozilla code, but considering the very serious
and advanced discussion at the Mozilla bugtracker, I can't really believe that
the whole thing is only about a Debian config file.

[Bug 408397] Re: Win key as third level chooser doesn't work anymore

2009-11-24 Thread Felix Dreissig
@Donald: Does installing the patched package by Alexey solve the problem for
you? Then it should be fine.
If it doesn't, this might be a different bug. In this case, you should create a
new bug report for it.

[Bug 74008] Re: Include the window border doesn't work by default (with compiz)

2009-11-12 Thread Felix Dreissig
@Lasse: Hope dies last, but I don't see why after such a long time there should
suddenly be a fix.
Looks like nobody really cares about that problem, which I find very annoying
as a main feature of a tool shipped with Ubuntu by default just doesn't work.
