[Bug 568779] Re: [i855] 10.04 rc boots into black/blank screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 My advice to users with the Intel I855 graphics chipset is NOT to even try Ubuntu 10.04 lucid, but to wait until a fix is released. (After all, Karmic is supported for six more months, Hardy for one more year.) If you still really want to try 10.04, I suggest using the alternate, text-based installer. This will allow you to install the system without problems. When the time comes to reboot form the HD, THEN hold the shift key, get into the grub menu and select recovery mode. [Bug 568779] Re: 10.04 rc livecd boots into black/blank screen (intel 82852/855GM graphic card)
One day to go. It is unthinkable, but this bug WILL be included in the final Lucid release. This is a disaster as machines using the Intel 855GM integrated video are quite common. My Thinkpad X40 is an example: a still useful netbook alternative, with a nice and very readable matte screen. I guess it will be possible to start in recovery mode, run in failsafeX and then maybe try the 2.6.34-020634rc5-generic kernel. But how many users can do that?
