[Bug 1971434] Re: Display powersave only blanks, but does not turn off

2022-05-03 Thread Florian Echtler
One extra observation: when I use "xset dpms force off" to send the
display to sleep, it stays in sleep indefinitely until the next user
input, so apparently g-s-d never touches the power state.

[Bug 1971463] [NEW] VAAPI decoding fails on Jammy

2022-05-03 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:

For the linked video, if I try to play it through playbin on Jammy
(`gst-launch-1.0 playbin
uri=file:///home/floe/Downloads/big_buck_bunny_720p_surround.mp4`), I
get only a black window with the audio track playing in the background.
This happens for most H.264 encoded videos (which also can't play in
Totem, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1969512).

Running with GST_DEBUG=3 gives a lot of
```
```

This issue can be worked around by uninstalling gstreamer1.0-vaapi
package, or by downgrading to 1.16.2-2.

vlc seems to be using VAAPI on the same machine & distro without issues:

[Bug 1969512] Re: Totem unable to play video: "The specified movie could not be found"

2022-05-03 Thread Florian Echtler
I'm pretty sure this is not a Totem issue, but rather a GStreamer issue.

E.g. for the linked video, if I try to play it through playbin on Jammy
(`gst-launch-1.0 playbin
uri=file:///home/floe/Downloads/big_buck_bunny_720p_surround.mp4`), I
get a black window with the audio track playing in the background. Same
happens for any movie that also has the same issue with Totem.

Running with GST_DEBUG=3 gives a lot of
```
0:00:00.381581482 183712 0x7f5f6c05b640 ERROR   vaapivideomemory
gstvaapivideomemory.c:254:map_vaapi_memory: failed to make image current
xvimagesink.c:1038:gst_xv_image_sink_show_frame: could not map
so this may be VAAPI-related?
[Bug 1782077] [NEW] network/wifi icon missing from top bar and user menu
2018-07-17 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
On 18.04, after a recent update, the top bar in gnome-shell does not
missing in the user menu.
This appears to be already tracked in this upstream bug:
[Bug 1691424] Re: iMac 10,1: display black after suspend
2017-05-24 Thread Florian Echtler
What I've already tried without success:
  * Blindly switching to the console and back.
  * Calling DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --output eDP1 --auto via ssh.
  * Restarting X via ssh.
  * Blacklist apple_bl on the kernel cmdline (modprobe.blacklist=apple_bl).
  * Disabling the radeon backlight on the kernel cmdline (radeon.backlight=0).
  * Using radeontool to turn the backlight back on after suspend.
I'm starting to run out of ideas... any hints?
[Bug 1691424] [NEW] iMac 10,1: display black after suspend
2017-05-17 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.2 on an unibody iMac from 2009. However, even
with the most recent HWE stack (kernel 4.8), the display stays black
display doesn't do anything anymore. Blindly switching to the console
and back also does not help.
I will update this report with information from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight once I get around to
it.
[Bug 1369067] Re: symbolic link to libturbojpeg.so missing
2014-09-14 Thread Florian Echtler
Sorry, I filed the bug against the wrong package, I did indeed mean
Installing that package does _not_ fix the issue, as it does not contain
any softlink to libturbojpeg.so.
[Bug 1369067] [NEW] symbolic link to libturbojpeg.so missing
2014-09-13 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
On amd64, the missing symlink (libturbojpeg.so - libturbojpeg.so.0) can
lead to the following link error:
/usr/bin/ld:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.8/../../../x86_64-linux-gnu/libturbojpeg.a(libturbojpeg_la-turbojpeg.o):
 relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.data' can not be used when making a shared
object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.8/../../../x86_64-linux-gnu/libturbojpeg.a:
error adding symbols: Bad value
Manually adding the missing symlink in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ fixes
the issue.
sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-intel
apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-intel
cd xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.99.910/ # adjust version number if necessary
echo usr/bin/intel-virtual-output  debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.install
[Bug 1219870] [NEW] Saving PDF annotations in evince breaks PDF in acroread
2013-09-02 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
[ Ubuntu 12.04, Evince 3.4.0, Poppler 0.18.4 ]
When I add annotations to a PDF in evince and save a copy of this PDF
(with annotations), I can no longer open the saved PDF in acroread
(gives an error message root object invalid or not found).
As far as I can tell, this only happens if the XREF table in the PDF is
a compressed stream - a workaround is to run
pdftk in.pdf output out.pdf uncompress
before annotating output.pdf in evince. The result can be opened in
acroread.
[Bug 1129866] Re: Reload in context menu discards unsaved changes
2013-03-02 Thread Florian Echtler
The only possible edit you can do to a document in evince is
adding/editing annotations, so there are no other cases where this can
happen. If you try to close a document with unsaved annotations, a
dialog asking you to save first pops up.
In any case, this can certainly lead to unintentional loss of data
(edits) by just one mis-click, so in my opinion, it is certainly a bug.
When a document has unsaved annotations, triggering reload should ask if
[Bug 1049266] [NEW] pairing Wii Balance Board not supported in 4.101
2012-09-11 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
The following code in 4.101 checks whether a device should receive the
special Wii passkey:
vendor = btd_device_get_vendor(device);
product = btd_device_get_product(device);
device_get_name(device, name, sizeof(name));
name[sizeof(name) - 1] = 0;
if (g_str_equal(name, Nintendo RVL-CNT-01) ||
(vendor == 0x057e  product == 0x0306)) {
However, this does not work for the Wii Balance Board, which reports its
name as Nintendo RVL-WBC-01. I'd suggest to add a second comparison
with this string.
P.S. I haven't found any working upstream bug tracker, which is why I
report this here, hoping that somebody from upstream will pick it up.
Would be great to see this fix incorporated into Ubuntu kernels...
[Bug 960919] Re: Show OSD notification when device is safe to remove
2012-07-13 Thread Florian Echtler
Although I agree with comment #3 in principle, I just wanted to comment
that the progress bar dialog looks very much out of place, a
notification bubble would fit better with the overall visual style...
[Bug 994495] Re: libsipe.so is linked against missing libgmime-2.4.so.2
2012-05-07 Thread Florian Echtler
Thanks for the hint, apparently that was indeed the case. apt-get
install --reinstall pidgin-sipe fixed this; the output of apt-cache
policy made me believe I had installed the package from the official
precise repo.
Sorry for the noise, thanks for your help.
[Bug 994495] [NEW] libsipe.so is linked against missing libgmime-2.4.so.2
2012-05-04 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04
pidgin-sipe:
  Installiert: 1.11.2-1ubuntu1
  Kandidat:1.11.2-1ubuntu1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 1.11.2-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
In this package, /usr/lib/purple-2/libsipe.so is linked against
libgmime-2.4.so.2.
This library was part of libgmime-2.4-2 which has been replaced by
libgmime-2.6-0.
When libgmime-2.4-2 has been uninstalled, pidgin-sipe consequently stops
working.
A quick-and-dirty fix is to symlink /usr/lib/libgmime-2.6.so.0 to
/usr/lib/libgmime-2.4.so.2, which seems to be working for me.
However, the pidgin-sipe package should be rebuilt to avoid linking
against this outdated library.
[Bug 820899] [NEW] S/MIME signature broken due to wrong MIME multipart header
[Bug 815349] Re: gvfsd-dav crashed with SIGABRT in raise()
2011-07-28 Thread Florian Echtler
This bug is actually caused by libproxy0, specifically by a string
parsing error in url.c:308 - when the URL contains username and port,
but no pass, the parsing fails. A workaround is to specifiy neither user
nor password in the connect to dialog, but to enter both in the
password dialog that follows.
[Bug 631464] Re: Thinkpad T410s fails to suspend in Maverick Beta
2011-01-27 Thread Florian Echtler
Hello Sam,
you will have to install the kernel source code first - see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile for more details.
After you have edited the file as described above and rebuilt the kernel, you
will get a new hid-ntrig.ko in linux-2.6.35/drivers/hid. Then, you can replace
the one you described with the new one. Multitouch works, too.
[Bug 684302] Re: cvInvert may cause segmentation fault
2010-12-16 Thread Florian Echtler
Hm, I forgot to add a line about editing debian/patches/series and
removing the fix_3rdparty_build.patch - but apart from that, it works on
my machine. Do you have installed anything relating to IPP (Intel
Performance Primitives)? Maybe that's causing your error...
[Bug 684302] Re: cvInvert may cause segmentation fault
2010-12-13 Thread Florian Echtler
Here's the quick-and-dirty workaround (maybe not so quick, the rebuild
takes quite some time):
apt-get source opencv
cd opencv-2.1.0
rm debian/patches/fix_3rdparty_build.patch
debuild
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Any news on how to fix this in a release?
I can confirm that rebuilding the package without
fix_3rdparty_build.patch fixes the bug. Would it be possible to disable
this patch for x86 builds?
[Bug 684302] [NEW] cvInvert may cause segmentation fault
2010-12-02 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: libcv2.1
This bug affects libcv2.1.0-2.
Under certain circumstances, calling cvInvert causes a segmentation fault with
the following stacktrace:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x03d36f4b in ATL_dgemvT_a1_x1_b0_y1 () from /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf
(gdb) bt
#1  0x03d3169b in ATL_dgemv () from /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf
#2  0xbfffb504 in ?? ()
Backtrace stopped: previous frame inner to this frame (corrupt stack?)
(gdb) quit
This bug does not occur when compiling the package without the Ubuntu patches
to opencv-2.1.0/src/cxcore/cxlapack.cpp.
As cvCalibrateCamera* and cvFindChessboardCorners also call cvInvert, this may
be the root of some other reported bugs as well.
See also https://code.ros.org/trac/opencv/ticket/656 for a test program
causing the bug. Note that this is NOT an upstream bug - compiling from
opencv_2.1.0.orig.tar.gz without patches fixes this bug.
[Bug 684302] Re: cvInvert may cause segmentation fault
2010-12-02 Thread Florian Echtler
I am sorry, that comment about the patch to cxlapack.cpp was my mistake.
Nevertheless, the bug can be fixed (at least on i386) by building the
package with an empty debian/patches/ directory. Since my original guess
was wrong, I can only speculate that the problem is related to
fix_3rdparty_build.patch. Maybe it is caused by some incompatibility
between the lapack in the package and the one from Ubuntu.
[Bug 631464] Re: Thinkpad T410s fails to suspend in Maverick Beta
2010-11-26 Thread Florian Echtler
I found a workaround for this bug which involves recompiling the hid-
ntrig kernel module.
In drivers/hid/hid-ntrig.c, comment out or remove line 419-423:
/* This is needed for devices with more recent firmware versions */
/*report = hdev-report_enum[HID_FEATURE_REPORT].report_id_hash[0x0a];
if (report)
usbhid_submit_report(hdev, report, USB_DIR_OUT);
ntrig_report_version(hdev);*/
Rebuild and install the module and suspend works (and the touchscreen,
too).
[Bug 360399] Re: Tracker does not index Evolution mails
2010-10-18 Thread Florian Echtler
Just wanted to confirm that this bug is still occuring in Maverick with
tracker-0.8.17-0ubuntu1. tracker-miner-evolution is installed and
enabled in Evolution. Evolution shows on console:
Tracker-Message: Registering D-Bus service...
  Name:'org.freedesktop.Tracker1.Miner.Emails'
Tracker-Message: Registering D-Bus object...
Tracker-Message:   Path:'/org/freedesktop/Tracker1/Miner/Emails'
Tracker-Message:   Object Type:'TrackerEvolutionPlugin'
EI: MAIL PREFS
Nevertheless, no emails are ever indexed as indicated by
.local/share/tracker/*.log. Is it possible that the push module in
/usr/lib/tracker-0.8/push-modules/daemon is missing?
[Bug 367771] [NEW] gnome-power-manager crashes on AC unplug
2009-04-27 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:
Hi everyone, I've just upgraded my Acer Aspire One L110 to Jaunty
Jackalope, and now my gnome-power-manager applet reliably crashes when I
unplug the AC power. Running it with --verbose doesn't give any useful
information. I can restart it, and it works also when I reattach the
power - until I remove it again.
1. Ubuntu version is 9.04
2. g-p-m version is 2.24.2-2ubuntu8.
3. expected g-p-m to keep running
4. g-p-m quit unexpectedly
UPDATE: I've tried debugging with --no-daemon, and now I'm getting
something useful:
TI:09:23:31 TH:0x918c640FI:gpm-cell.c
FN:hal_device_property_modified_cb,273
E: socket-client.c: socket(): Address family not supported by protocol
Segmentation fault
I suppose that the address family not supported error is caused by the
custom kernel I'm running; however, g-p-m should handle that gracefully,
as I've used the same kernel in Intrepid without problems.
Florian
UPDATE 2: I've just checked this with the stock 2.6.28-11 kernel, and
while the socket() error is gone, g-p-m still crashes at the same point.
