Well I am happy with the workaround but it bugs me why the problem only seemed to affect 3 or 4 people. Looking at the init scripts for Dapper and Edgy, I did notice that dbus runs from an s20 script in Edgy, while it is s12 in Dapper. GDM runs with s13 in both cases ( except as I changed it to s21 to allow gdmsetup to run). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Running GDMSETUP on my machine (latest EDGY) gives me a series of cannot connect to socket then says cannot access GDM configuration file. This started a few weeks ago. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Cannot run gdmsetup https://launchpad.net/bugs/66034 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 62342] Re: gdmgreeter Failed to connect to socket
This all looks so familar. The gdmgreeter not connecting, and in my case gdmsetup also emulates the greeter and won't /can't connect. Nobody seems to know what's wrong. I have aklso lost the halt/reboot icons/functions from the quit command on the menu (I am running EDGY) Last night after the latest update which included GDM, everything went back to normaluntil I rebooted. And we are back at square one. -- gdmgreeter Failed to connect to socket https://launchpad.net/bugs/62342 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Usplash hasn't worked here for two weeks. I guess we have to wait for final release. -- usplash resolution error in boot and halt https://launchpad.net/bugs/60621 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61582] Re: Crash on tag editing
Actually it's a two part crash which is random. I click on properties, an error box pops up saying Gstreamer has suffered an internal error, click on OK, properties box comes up, click on close and Rythmbox crashes. Seems to happen at random times, I can change tags on a few files, then it will crash. Wish I could provide more help. -- Crash on tag editing https://launchpad.net/bugs/61582 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60621] Re: No Splash
With latest updates to Edgy (15-9-2006) USPLASH is gone. System complains it can't find a usable screen for 640x480. Screen init fails. String of code. But system eventually boots anyway. -- No Splash https://launchpad.net/bugs/60621 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 59933] Edgy (knot-2) puts two icons on screen for mounted partition
Public bug reported: I have 2 icons on the screen for hda3...my dapper partition which Edgy mounts on boot, One is called hda3, the other hda3(2). This all comes after the installer insisted my hd was a scsi drive when it's really an IDE. That has apparently been resolved by the Kernel people. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Edgy (knot-2) puts two icons on screen for mounted partition https://launchpad.net/bugs/59933 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
