[Bug 2060821] [NEW] Black screen after Ubuntu update to 22.04.4

2024-04-10 Thread Gabriela Łabuć
Public bug reported:

I updated my Ubuntu from 20 something to 22.04.4 using commands in
terminal and then rebooted the laptop. It turns on but the is stuck at
black screen with white line flicking in the top left corner.

Someone somewhere suggested to do "sudo apt update" in TTY console but I
get "Temporary failure resolving 'pl.archive.ubuntu.com'".

Thought it's related to network. "nmcli dev wifi connect SSID" returns
"Error: No Wi-Fi device found." "nmcli connection show" returns saved
networks but none of them have devices. "nmcli device" returns only "lo
loopback unmanaged".

AI suggested to check Xorg logs, found a line "no enabled display
devices found", dunno if it's relevant.

I generally know very little about Linux unfortunately.

[Bug 675903] Re: pidgin ICQ connection error

Until the fix is distributed (it wasn't in today's updates), it seems
like turning off SSL *and* turning on Client Login will do the trick.
Thanks @Dominik for that hint.

[Bug 675903] Re: pidgin ICQ connection error

2010-11-16 Thread gabriela
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. When I start Pidgin (which is still 2.7.3
from Ubuntu) it shows XX deaktiviert and Unbekannter Grund
(while XX is my ICQ UIN, Deaktiviert means disabled and
Unbekannter Grund means unknown reason). When I login with my ICQ
UIN on the icq.com web page, it works and it shows my contacts. So my
account isn't disabled on the ICQ side. There must be something wrong
with pidgin or ICQ. Did AOL/ICQ change once again their protocols? Maybe
the problem could be solved with Pidgin 2.7.5, but I didn't get any
updates. Here it's still 2.7.3. I'm reluctant to switch to manually
installed program versions, because this would mean to manually check
for updates for one more application.

When I look at the ICQ account settings, SSL is *not* checked. The
server name is login.messaging.aol.com, port 5190. I have installed and
often use the OTR plugin, but IMHO this shouldn't interfere with logging
into ICQ.

[Bug 432215] Re: labels are 'padded' with spaces

2010-05-10 Thread gabriela
Yeah, same story over and over again. Soon after one bug has been fixed
or a community workaround has been found, the device (or Ubuntu?) fails
again. I've upgraded from 9.10 64bit to 10.04 64bit. It happens here
exactly the same way as you (André Barmasse and GM_Ubuntu) describe it
in msg #38 and #39.

Did anyone spot the buggy module? And how do we proceed? @GM_Ubuntu: Can
you unveil the new bug ID for I can sign in? As 10.04 is supposed to be
an LTS release, I really hope this one will be fixed soon - and fixed
for good.

[Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)

2009-05-08 Thread gabriela
Someone wrote Tracker is not enabled by default. Please allow me to
doubt that.

I didn't even know what tracker is, until these dialog boxes kept
appearing on and on again on my main machine, with no way to get rid of
them. Tracker was enabled on two of my notebooks, which were upgraded
from Intrepid Ibex (and previously were installed by myself from Ubuntu
X86 CDs). I certainly know that I didn't enable tracker manually, so it
must have been enabled by default.

On my main machine it wasn't enough to just disable tracker. It was
unusable, until I completely uninstalled that tracker thing. I now
uninstalled tracker from my other machines, just to be sure that this
behaviour won't repeat there.

This bug *is* a very bad annoyance.

2009-05-08 Thread gabriela
OMG! Why can't everything be as simple as that? thepro, you are my hero.

I normally don't need any username/password for my iCon 225, so I didn't
dare to enter any username/password. But it works with dummy values.

The only thing that doesn't work now is disconnect. But pulling the
plug or shutting down my netbook will do this.

Ubuntu :-)

@thepro: I had a look in Synaptic. The version of my network-manager
module already seems to be 0.7.1~rc4.1.cf199a964-0ubuntu2.

@Alexander Sack: is your patch a patch for hso/hsoconnect by
pharscape.org? If it isn't, I'd be happy to know how to apply it.

I didn't try to use the hso/hsoconnect solution by pharscape.org,
because I'd rather wait for a real (official) Ubuntu solution. I'm
reluctant in using non-official modules. You never know if they will be
updated and if regular Ubuntu updates could set them out of order.

[Bug 368325] [NEW] Option iCon 225 (HSDPA USB stick) cannot connect (Jaunty Jackalope 9.04)

2009-04-27 Thread gabriela
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm using an Asus EeePC 1000H and am trying to use my Option Icon 225
internet USB stick (got this by Orange Switzerland). I seem to encounter
similar problems as other users wrote, but on a brand new installed and
completely updated Jaunty Jackalope (9.04).

This is what happens and can be reproduced: When I connect the stick the
first time, a wizard appears, which lets me choose my country
(Switzerland) and my provider (Orange). After clicking Apply (I'm not
sure about the English menus, buttons and dialogs) a message appears at
the upper right corner. It tells me that I can start the connection by
clicking on the network icon. I do this, select Orange. After that I
get a small dialog box asking for the PIN code, which I type in
correctly. Everything looks great, but then it will not connect. There's
a small black box at the upper right corner telling me: GSM Network -
you are now offline. It doesn't matter if I boot the EeePC with the
stick connected or if I connect it afterwards.

On that EeePC I first had Xandros (preinstalled by Asus). The stick
worked there, but I prefer Ubuntu.

I attach two log files (syslog and serial log) of what's logged while
connecting the stick and trying to get it work.

If you need other logs, please tell me how to get them. I'm not very
experienced in this.

Thank you, Daniel.
These files worked on my Asus V6J (V6800J) notebook. I simply replaced the

with these versions, rebooted, and sound was back.
Will they be included in future Ubuntu versions or updates?

[Bug 106397] Could this be a dupe of 105582?

2007-04-15 Thread gabriela
I've just checked the list Bugs assigned to Ubuntu Audio Team.
I'm not sure, but this issue could be a dupe of this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/105582
See also Yuriy's comment; he seems to have the same Asus notebook.

[Bug 106397] Sound only worked until kernel 2.6.20-13-generic on my Asus V6800J notebook

2007-04-13 Thread gabriela
Public bug reported:

This is an Asus V6800J notebook, Intel soundchip, WLAN, Duo T2400 CPU,
nVidia GeForceGo 7400 graphics. Besides WinXP, I first had Ubuntu Dapper
Drake 6.06 installed. The sound worked on Dapper 6.06 out of the box.
When I tried to install Feisty Herd 3 or 4, sound still worked out of
the box. Then came update to kernel 2.6.20-14, then the sound was gone.
And it stayed off ever after, no matter which updates I installed. Even
reinstallig it (formatting the system partition) didn't help. I've even
tried the release candidate CD, still no sound.
