[Bug 1868854] Re: package libc6:amd64 2.31-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: installed libc6:amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-04-06 Thread Gareth Woolridge
I believe this is a change in libc6 2.31 now making an unsupported call
in WSL which causes "sleep" to break:

https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/4898

As a workaround I edited /var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6:arm64.postinst (as I
was on arm64) and removed the "sleep 1" which was causing package
install to fail.

Obviously that is a temporary hack, and if Focal supports WSL1 it will
need to cope with that regression.

And of course anything else on an affected system calling sleep be they
scripts or packages will be similarly affected.

[Bug 1819437] [NEW] transient mon<->osd connectivity HEALTH_WARN events don't self clear in 13.2.4

2019-03-11 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Public bug reported:

In a recently juju deployed 13.2.4 ceph cluster (as part of an OpenStack
Rocky deploy) we experienced a none clearing HEALTH_WARN event that
appeared to be associated with a short planned network outage, but did
not clear without human intervention:

health: HEALTH_WARN
6 slow ops, oldest one blocked for 112899 sec, daemons
[mon.shinx,mon.sliggoo] have slow ops.

We can correlate this back to a known network event, but all OSDs are up
and the cluster otherwise looks healthy:

[Bug 1791257] [NEW] conjure-up snap on arm64 bionic doesnt detect lxd

2018-09-07 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Public bug reported:

running conjure-up from snap with snapped lxd on amd64 bionic with a
previously lxd init'd lxd allows to deploy spells to localhost with lxd.

On arm64 it appears the localhost/lxd provider doesn't detect lxd
whether package or snap derived despite it being there and useable on
the system.

conjure-up displays:

LXD not found, please install and wait for this message to disappear:

$ sudo snap install lxd
$ sudo usermod -a -G lxd
$ newgrp lxd
$ /snap/bin/lxd init

AFAICT lxd is installed and working fine and has other containers
deployed:

Conjure-up snap also seems very old on arm64 given amd64 has conjure-up

Perhaps this just needs a conjure-up snap refresh for this architecture?

[Bug 1774659] [NEW] tracebacks on connect from discovery_cache - "ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'google'" on 18.04/bionic

2018-06-01 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Public bug reported:

With python3-googleapi 1.5.5-1 installed on ubuntu 18.04 bionic system
we get several tracebacks on connect/discovery related to
discovery_cache and module load:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File

On bionic exhibiting the above behavior the versions of the api client
and oauth2 libs are:

[Bug 1674656] [NEW] excessive mongodb disk usage recovered with a repair/repack

2017-03-21 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Public bug reported:

IS have a number of bootstrap nodes with small <10GB disks, particularly
in AWS where root disk is often only 8GB with our current sizing.

Periodically we get disk space alerts and find that there is little we
can clean up on the instance, with juju's mongodb using the vast
majority of space.

The environment I specifically dealt with was running 1.25.10

We've been able to free up significant disk space by running a
repair/repack of the mongodb:

systemctl stop juju-db # or 'initctl stop juju-db'

/usr/lib/juju/bin/mongod --auth --dbpath /var/lib/juju/db
--sslOnNormalPorts --sslPEMKeyFile /var/lib/juju/server.pem
--sslPEMKeyPassword xxx --port 37017 --noprealloc --syslog
--smallfiles --nojournal --keyFile /var/lib/juju/shared-secret --replSet
juju --ipv6 --oplogSize 512 --repair --repairpath /mnt

Ideally juju would become better at managing and recovering space in
it's DB.

** Affects: juju-core-1 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1546975] [NEW] Suspend failure/crash on Macbook Air 5,2

2016-02-18 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Public bug reported:

Until a few weeks ago suspend worked perfectly on my 2012 11" MacBook
Air. Since that time however it has become very unreliable.

If I close the lid to suspend and reopen within a short period of time
it resumes and all is fine. If left longer eg overnight then on opening

[Bug 1510021] Re: After upgrade from vivid to wily external monitor has only limited resolutions

2015-11-18 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Kernel bisecting:
We know it's fixed in 4.3.0-040300-201511020949

Stepping up through kernels:

Current wily kernel (with displayport issue):
4.2.0-17.21 Ubuntu-4.2.0-17.21 4.2.3

dist-upgrade gets us to:
4.2.0-18.22 Ubuntu-4.2.0-18.22 4.2.3 - same displayport issue

v4.2.6-wily - 4.2.6-040206.201511091832 - same displayport issue

v4.3-rc1-unstable - 4.3.0-040300rc1.201509160642 - displayport working
correctly, eg 1920x1200 on external display.

[Bug 1510021] Re: After upgrade from vivid to wily external monitor has only limited resolutions

2015-11-04 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Run as requested (with the MiniDP to VGA) adaptor connected.

Interestingly I tried this with a colleagues generic el cheapo MiniDP to
{VGA,HDMI,DVI} adaptor and successfully got my monitors native
resolution.

So for me at least it appears that the limited resolution issue only
occurs with an official Apple MiniDP to VGA adaptor. But said adaptor
worked fine in Vivid!

[Bug 1273261] Re: Cryptsetup error during boot: /scripts/local-top/cryptroot: line 1: can't open /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root: no such file

2014-10-08 Thread Gareth Woolridge
I'm seeing this error and a failure to boot on a previously working
Trusty environment upgraded to Utopic.

As a workaround if I drop to text mode with ESC or boot in recovery I
can see the error /scripts/local-top/cryptroot: line 1: can't open
/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root: no such file but can then enter my
passphrase and get to a working system.

[Bug 1257880] Re: Runaway init --user consuming CPU and RAM

2014-08-23 Thread Gareth Woolridge
Also seeing this on the desktop, as james-fsck machine grinds to a halt
in swap after a few days.

I was forced to hard reset as I couldn't afford the time to try and get
back into the system, if this happens again at a less critical time I'll
try and collecty output per above.

Disregard above, I only killed compiz and manually started unity to get

[Bug 1268906] Re: cpu soft lockup running kvm

2014-02-27 Thread Gareth Woolridge
I've had a number of lockups in the last 2 days since upgrading to
Trusty and trying to run a VM under kvm which look to match this issue.

System appears to become unresponsive/hang with what looks like some
kind of I/O lockup, cannot ls in a terminal etc before eventually
display freezes. syslog shows kernel spew related to soft lockup after
this point though.

The issue appeared to coincide with a period of high disk I/O within the
guest on both occasions. I'll look to reproduce on a less active guest
outside of working day.

This occured on a 64 bit system:
