[Bug 157249]
Hello - I just encountered this bug or something like it. Images show as read-error in LO and the xlsx file would not open in Office 2010. I'm using version 3.5.4 using Mac Lion. This is what I did: 1- started docx document in Office 2010 on Windows 7, added text, a few pictures, and table of contents. 2- opened docx in LO 3.5.4 on Mac Lion. Made various edits and added about 13 jpeg photos using Insert Picture From File in various places in the document. I did crop one of the images in LO and edited a few with Edit with External Tool (Mac Preview rotation) and all seemed okay from those. 3- re-Saved the file as docx and dropboxed it 4- re-opened the docx file at work today and got the following results. MS Office 2010 will not open it now and says it has an error. Libreoffice 3.5.4 on Windows 7 will open it, but there are read-error notices where the pictures should be. I also notice that the file is 4MB, which would be small considering that many pictures. They would have been a few MB each. Also, the few images that were added originally in step 1 are still present and okay. All other images are missing with read-error. Based on the file-size I'm assuming that the file was not saved correctly on the Mac at step 3 and the images were lost at that point. They were visible in the document upon closeing the file on the Mac at step 3. I'm not sure if auto-save is turned on the Mac or not as I'm not at that computer right now, but assume it would be on as default. I assume dropbox did not mangle the file since the other original pictures added at step 1 are okay and the text is readable. Please let me know what other info I can provide. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157249 Title: [Upstream] [ooo-build] images deleted from file after auto-save occurs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/157249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 157249]
Looking at the file again I wanted to note that 1 of the 13 pictures I added in step 2 was retained. I think it was the last one added and it was the one that was cropped (although it doesn't appear to be cropped now).
Turns out that this is easy for me to reproduce on Windows 7 with LO3.5.4. using .docx format and autosave (Save AutoRecovery Information Every) turned on. Both docx and autosave are key aspects. Here are my approximate steps. 1-opened LO and made sure autosave was on, and it is by default 2-changed autosave to 1 minutes (as noted in other comments) although it doesn't work at other intervals either. I figured it would be more likely to have problems if it autosaved more often 3-started new file and saved as docx 4-Added some text and formatting and a few images here and there, while waiting a few minutes between. Also clicked the save button once or twice to save the file between waits and adding images. 5-After about 10 minutes and minimal additions, I saved the file, close it, and closed LO. 6-Re-opened the file in LO and the first image I added was read-error. The other images were present, but some in slightly wrong places. Hope this helps.
[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE17xx chipsets
@Florian - I agree with you (although I'm not use Maverick - currently on Fedora13 ). Can this please get some attention from the Ubuntu/Debian devs.. This card/chip is probably more common that you think. I imagine the silent majority of people that wanted to give Ubuntu a try but couldn't get their nice audio hardware working so gave up and went back to Windows... I just purchase an album today and have run into this problem. I've tried the proposed update and it is still not working. I agree with #1 and #7. Maybe Digikam could: -unmount the device for us so that digikam can use it? -provide a more thorough message suggesting that the user unmount the device? Add to the error line: You may also need to make sure that the camera is not mounted and in use by another program. [Bug 538275] [NEW] Nouveau not working with Modeline resolution in xorg.conf
Public bug reported: I've got nouveau running on a 9500GT card, but having a problem using a Modeline to create a resolution setting for my monitor. My monitor is supposed to run at 1920x1200; however, it is detected at 1680x1050 from EDID. I have always (nvidia, nv, intel) had to workaround by using a custom modeline setting and have been doing this for 2 years successfully. Nouveau works fine at the 1680 resolution; however, I cannot get nouveau to work correctly at 1920 resolution, that the monitor is designed to work at. When I use the modeline for 1920 below I can only see a tiny (~1/4 inch) section of the screen at the top of the monitor. It is big enough to see the tip of the mouse moving around and some color from the wallpaper, but not much esle. It as if the whole bottom part is cut off and black. I can get out of this by switching to a Alt-Ctl-F1 terminal. [Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets
FWIW I agree with pablomme: My reason for preferring tweaking the udev/pulseaudio configuration over tweaking ALSA's is that for professional audio apps (JACK, Ardour, Hydrogen, etc) pulseaudio is irrelevant, and ALSA's default configuration works exactly as it should. Daniel: #30 looks like it was only a partial fix as noted in the comments #44, but maybe it now does completely fix things as reported in #110. This should probably be tested more. Looks like most of the recent fixes above note the use of #52/53/63 method. In comment #100 I note that #52/#53 works for me. This was over a month ago and it still seems to work great. I used both standard desktop (pulse stuff) and pro audio programs (jackd, qjackctl, ardour, rosegarden, muse) on a daily basis. With the pulsaudio fix all we need to do to run jack aware apps is to run qjackctl, which runs pasuspender qjackctl; this works quite well. -- Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets
I agree with the comment from #105. This is a relatively common card for people that want great sound quality or for audio/midi recording. As for the Maudio Audiophile 24/96, it's was and is a common PCI sound cards sold at music stores for recording. Ever since ubuntu has started using pulseaudio I've been having to mess with this during install. A couple releases ago I just uninstalled pulseaudio, but now these fixes work pretty well. Most recently I used #52/#52. On a different note, could an Ubuntu developer look at the solutions proposed in this thread and say whether any is an acceptable fix to get into Lucid? And if not, what would a good solution look like? The bug has been upstreamed to both pulseaudio and ALSA, but neither has committed a fix. I think Ubuntu would do well in maintaining a fix while this is resolved, with Lucid being LTS and all. -- Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 437579] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/fs/notify/inotify/inotify_fsnotify.c:129 idr_callback+0x4f/0x80()
I had a similar oops just happen. I was trying to get sound on my M2496 (ice1712) card working as it was only at low volume on the right channel. Sound was playing through qjackctl and the only other active program was mhwaveedit. I had just clicked on the kmix task bar and this happened. This is the first time for me seeing this, but I just went through the upgrade from jaunty yesterday so not many opportunities yet. The apport could not send other info due to to something about the report being corrupted. I'm going to reboot as it suggested. I see it refernces the mother board as the hardware name, but I have the audio features disabled in the bios and only use the Maudio audiphile 2496 now. [Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28
I also just triggered a crash using the hang.py script from this forum. I just just switched to ext4 and had to try. I have two observations someone might find useful. 1) Running as normal user. Ran hang.py and it locked up on the 5th round. I had to push the reset button. Note that the script did not run correctly and I got an error such that sh: cannot create /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches: Permission denied at each loop. 2) Running as root user. Ran hang.py and it did NOT lockup. Tried it twice and it completed the full 10 rounds both times. The drop_cache worked as intended in the script. System is: Linux version 2.6.28-11-generic (bui...@palmer) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 (Ubuntu 2.6.28-11.42-generic) 2GB RAM 150GB 7400 rpm hard drive 75% full nvidia driver Converted from ext3 yesterday and ran fine all day doing basic office stuff today. I wanted to followup on this report. I am still having this issue with the the final digikam 0.10 just released for jaunty. You may not be getting more reports about this because the crash reporting program does not send in reports for some reason. This is the message: This backtrace appears to be of no use. [Bug 341468] [NEW] nvidia restricted driver fails on new realtime kernel 2.6.28-2-rt
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-2-rt Hello, What Happened: I installed the new realtime 2.6.28-2-rt kernel and there was a failure during the dkms part of the nvidia install. This is with nvidia-glx (180.35). This was apparent both during the install using synaptic (using the terminal to see the details during install) and at boot of the kernel. After boot I could not use X and got stuck in failsafe mode until using Ctl-Alt-F1 to use text mode. Note that the nvidia driver works fine using the current generic kernel (2.6.28-9). I have the 6600GT card, which has always worked with packaged drivers from ubuntu (except for the fan speed - but that is another issue). What I expected: I expected the nvidia graphics and X to work when using the kernel driver. system info: Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release:9.04 linux-image-2.6.28-2-rt: Installed: 2.6.28-2.6 Candidate: 2.6.28-2.6 Version table: *** 2.6.28-2.6 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-headers-2.6.28-2-rt: Installed: 2.6.28-2.6 Candidate: 2.6.28-2.6 Version table: *** 2.6.28-2.6 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-2-rt: Installed: 2.6.28-2.1 Candidate: 2.6.28-2.1 Version table: *** 2.6.28-2.1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/multiverse Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status nvidia-glx-180: Installed: 180.35-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 180.35-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 180.35-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/restricted Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: linux-rt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nvidia restricted driver fails on new realtime kernel 2.6.28-2-rt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341468 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 331750] Re: Nvclock crash (*** stack smashing detected ***)
Same Problem Here. This is a critical program for me since I need it to control the nvidia fan speed which does not work for my card (6600 GT). This has worked fine in last several versions of Ubuntu. A newer version 0.8b4 from http://www.linuxhardware.org/nvclock/ compiles and works fine. So maybe his can be fixed by getting the new version; there is also a request for that in bug #326365 However, 0.8b3 crashes both from the ubuntu packages and when I compile myself. [Bug 336809] [NEW] digikam 10.0 crashes when viewing GPS data in map-marble pane
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: digikam I can cause repeatable crashes of digikam when: 1) Picture is GPS tagged (or can be just after adding a tag using the edit geolocation tool) 2) Geolocation right panel is visible so can see the location on a map. 3) Switching between images. I also reported this to the digikam mailing list.. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185290 It was left there that the crash is from libmarble. Nobody had much info about it, so it looks like it could be specific to ubuntu. System info... This happens on both computers that I've tried, one running Intrepid and a one a vbox running jaunty. [Bug 197158] Re: should not have to manually do sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg after upgrade
James, I now cannot re-create the original issue. I switched back to the original xorg.conf file (i810 driver) that gave me problems and now it works fine (for the last day). I can only guess that one of the many package updates/changes this last week fixed it. I'll leave it running a little while longer to see what happens. Re: [Bug 197158] Re: should not have to manually do sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg after upgrade
I just tried adding Driver i810 to the new xorg.conf file and it did not have the problem. I'd be willing to try a few more things out this evening. Is there anything in particular you want me to try? If the intel driver is now becoming the new default (at least in my case) should we spend our time on the i810 driver? One interesting test would be to switch the new xorg.conf to use i810, and make no other changes. That should test this theory. Would you like to try that? [Bug 198627] [NEW] No sound in Alsa after recent update
Public bug reported: I have no sound at all. I assume this is after update in last couple of days. Between hardy alpha5 and 6. This is using an Maudio 2496 card that I've used with both gutsy and fiesty. The strange part is that I get no errors and it looks like it is working, for example I can see the VU meter of envy24control working and programs do not complain about no audio. I have tried many programs including hydrogen through jackd, vlc, youtube and amazon.com flash in firefox. I know the sound card is okay since i booted up a 64Studio Live cd and it worked fine. I have tried a few older kernels that I know worked with audio in the past and they do not work now. [Bug 197158] [NEW] should not have to manually do sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg after upgrade
Public bug reported: After an upgrade from gutsy to hardy alpha5 my monitor would not resume after it had been put in power saving mode. This is only the monitor, the rest of the system worked fine (as confirmed using ssh). This was solved by manually running the command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg and then restarting the xserver. Now the monitor will resume when using the keyboard or mouse. Looks like the xorg.conf file has undergone many changes as it is much smaller now. I don't think the ordinary user should have to open xorg.conf files and run commands to manually reconfigure this stuff. [Bug 113896] Re: Openoffice base unixodbc Invalid cursor state
I am also experiencing this on a Gutsy 32 bit machine (NOT 64 bit), openoffice 2.3.0. I have the problem using the ODBC connector to a Postgres database (no problems with connecting to mysql db). Only have the problem when using 'serial' data type as the primary key so that it will autoincrement (which is highly desirable for me). No problems with using smallint, int or other datatypes as primary key. I also tried the SDBC driver, but it has a different set of issues. I have used openoffice with mysql and ODBC successfully over the past year with an earlier version of this database. -- Openoffice base unixodbc Invalid cursor state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 147347] ethernet network does not start at boot, assume driver r8169 problem
Public bug reported: I just did an upgrade to Gutsy and was hit with this bug. I never had this problem with Feisty. This appears similar to bug #86798 (r8169 driver does not detect link) Start computer (in this case a desktop) with cable connected (as usual). At boot the ethernet card light goes off (it was on before booting). I then have no network access. I then can resolve with: sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop sudo modprobe -r r8169 sudo modprobe r8169 However, this is not a good solution if my wife or others reboot the computer as they would need the root password to run these commands.
