Sure, but sadly I don't have either the experience, spare hardware nor free
time to do this :-/

[Bug 1326761] Re: Tevii S471 DVB-S2 card hangs on firmware upload

2018-05-02 Thread George Poulson
This issue affecting me too, just as others have said here.

I have a new system lubuntu 16.04, and running mythtv.

george@tvbox:~$ uname -a
Linux tvbox 4.13.0-39-generic #44~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 5 16:43:10 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

For me the issue is more that my logs are bing spammed

May 2 08:46:55 tvbox kernel: [155280.001493] ds3000_firmware_ondemand: Waiting
for firmware upload(2)...
May 2 09:17:57 tvbox kernel: [157141.510264] ds3000_firmware_ondemand: Waiting

May 2 09:17:57 tvbox kernel: [157141.510320] ds3000_firmware_ondemand: Waiting

May 2 09:18:18 tvbox kernel: [157162.782878] ds3000_firmware_ondemand: Waiting

May 2 09:18:18 tvbox kernel: [157162.782974] ds3000_firmware_ondemand: Waiting
for firmware upload(2)...

Everything works, although it does take some time for the tuner to change
channels and I can't say if the firmware (or lack of it) is affecting this.

I would love to see some resolution or workaround for this. I'm happy to
provide more information from my sysem if it will help.

[Bug 1104435] Re: xfce4-session crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc()

2013-07-07 Thread George Poulson
I found this page while researching a problem that has been affecting me
for a couple of weeks. I'm running xubuntu-13.04 x64 (upgraded from
12.10) on an Asus X52 notebook.

As other users have reported my session was being repeatedly logged out
at seemingly random intervals with no identifiable trigger.

As suggested in earlier posts I configured the 'raring-proposed'
repository and upgraded 'xfce4-session' from '4.10.0-2ubuntu-1' to
'4.10.0-2ubuntu-1.1' and my system now appears to be stable.

Thanks!

Re: [Bug 421824] Re: Update Manager- odd behaviour of package download progress bar

2009-09-25 Thread George Poulson
Sebastian Heinlein wrote:
Which application do you use? The KDE updating application kpackagekit

 your system?

I use the GNOME update manager - currently version 1:0.125.4 and I do
have aptdaemon installed - currently version 0.10+bzr240-0ubuntu1.

I note that the behaviour of the progress bar has changed recently; the
total amount to be downloaded is shown (though it seems to update in
stages as the checking progresses) and the download speed is also shown.
The progress 'bar' now oscillates back and forth rather than attempting
to show a percentage completed This is generally and is now much better
than previously but I think there is still room for improvement and a
gradual 0% to 100% progression would be much better.

Hope that helps!

[Bug 351863] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer INC. 900] suspend/resume failure

2009-08-31 Thread George Poulson
Asus EEE 900 - I applied latest updates using Update Manager and was advised
that a restart was required.
Machine failed to shut down cleanly and I was left with a blank screen. I had
to force the machine to shut down by holding the power button and received this
error on restarting.
I have experienced this error in the past when Update Manager tries to do a
restart. Normal manual shut down works fine.

[Bug 421824] [NEW] Update Manager- odd behaviour of package download progress bar

2009-08-31 Thread George Poulson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

This is not a major issue but does affect the user perception of update
progress.
Whan checking for updates the 'progress bar' behaves inconsistently, often
going to 100% and then jumping back to (say) 50%. Using system monitor to check
network activity also shows that although the status bar / progress box says
(say) downloading file 40 of 42, all network download activity has stopped
and the software is presumably parsing the downloaded files.
To improve user perception/experience I think that the operation of the
progress bar should be improved to show a steady increase from 0% to 100%,
without 'jumping back' to a lower value having already reached 100%. The status
messages could also be improved to read (say) Downloading file 10 of 42.. -
downloading file 42 of 42.. - Processing files..
My system: Ubuntu Karmic on ASUS EEE900 - all latest updates applied as of
today. Update Manager 1:0.124.8 - though this behaviour has existed since I
started using Karmic.

[Bug 399529] Re: automatic login not working

2009-07-24 Thread George Poulson
Sorry but I've been really busy with my work and haven't had much time
to follow up on this.

I checked and there is no 'ubuntu' account on my install.

I edited my /etc/gdm/custom.conf as follows and timed login worked as
expected.

AutomaticLoginEnable=false
AutomaticLogin=george
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=george
TimedLoginDelay=10

Clearly the problem was caused by the fact that auto login was set up
for an account that did not exist.

[Bug 401787] [NEW] Totem erroneously launches 'gstreamer-install-codec' which then crashes.

2009-07-20 Thread George Poulson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Installed 2009-7-18 daily release of karmic-desktop-remix on Asus EEE900
netbook.
When attempting to play an MP3 file(by double-clicking on the file icon in file
browser (files are on an SD card))- totem is launched but claims it needs to
install a codec to play the file (vanilla MP3 file).
The 'search for codec' dialogue is launched ('gstreamer-install-codec'), which
displays a single codec ('Gsreamer plugins for wavpack, mms, quicktime ...')
and then crashes.. totally unresponsive, unable to close, cancel or exit. There
is nothing in any log files (that I can find).
Going into system monitor and killing the gstreamer-install-codec process then
allows totem to continue and it starts to play the file. This is reproducible
every time Totem is started, but once running it will continue to play files
from the playlist OK.

That's strange. I just installed the karmic unr live build dated 18 July 09 and
all I have installed is adobe flash player and software for my '3UK' wireless

Are you saying that what I have is a different version than that which should

I can do another fresh install from the ISO if it will help to prove what's
