[Bug 1574357] Re: geogebra needs updating to version 5
That would be nice. I am the Debian maintainer for the package, but have been unable to work effectively on it lately. There are also a few problems connected with licensing, freeness and redistribution. In particular, for sure GeoGebra is not free (as in free software) at the moment, since some components (i18n, help files, ...) have a noncommercial clause. It might still be redistributable, and thus finish in Debian contrib/non-free and Ubuntu multiverse, however that requires some careful checking as well. GeoGebra has a lot of dependencies, some of which are very old software or with rather unclear licensing. A lot of it is LGPL or Apache, which probably cause no problems, but there might also be a few things that are under GPL. That might be problematic, because the GPL-ed code would effectively be distributed and used together with the nonfree components I said above. A list of the dependencies of GeoGebra is here: https://dev.geogebra.org/trac/wiki/SourcesForUsedLibraries. However there are good reasons to believe the list to be both incorrect (OpenGeoProver is considered GPL3, but nothing in the original repository supports this speculation) and incomplete (there is a generic "Others" point at the end). So it must be fixed in order to assess what can be done with GeoGebra at the moment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574357 Title: geogebra needs updating to version 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geogebra/+bug/1574357/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1211966] Re: Please upgrade the packaged version of geogebra
Well, in theory you could. Actually, at least in Debian you should be able anyway ship GeoGebra in the non-free part (I'm not sure, I should check the licenses more carefully to be sure that Debian is allowed to distribute the resulting binary blob). Probably the same applies to Ubuntu, although I'm not completely confident with Ubuntu packaging policies in multiverse. But I have to say I'm not very motivated to do that. I don't like spending time on non free software packages. I may reconsider this decision, but for the moment I'm not doing anything (of course I won't stop at all other people willing to work on that and in case someone wants to step up I'll do everything I can to makes their way as smooth as possible). [Bug 1033815] Re: Fails to start (java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError)
Hi. The geogebra package in Ubuntu (just like the one in Debian, which is the same) build-depends on default-jdk, not on any particular JDK or version. Thus the mismatch here is between what default-jdk depends on and what alternatives are set up to launch when the user want a JVM. This is something the Ubuntu Java team will have to solve, I really cannot do anything. What I might consider is to modify the build system so it generates 1.5 or 1.6 compatible classes. I'll think about it, but would like to stress that the real bug here is not in GeoGebra, but in the management of default Java versions. [Bug 682310] Re: Copy to clipboard does not work
I tried to run apport-collect, but it failed with a Python exception; maybe the problem is that I'm running Debian sid and apport is not tested there. Anyway, I can provide you the information you require. BTW, the LibreOffice version I'm running is 1:3.5.4-5. I'd also like to stress that I'm making no claimsa about whether the problem here in OpenJDK, in LibreOffice or in the copy and paste specifications. The thing to do here, I think, is to run my Java program attached above and checking whether or not it produces valid data in the clipboard. If it does, than the problem is probably LibreOffice's fault. If it doesn't, it is OpenJDK's. But, unfortunately, I'm not confident enough with how the clipboard works to do this check. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682310 Title: Copy to clipboard does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/682310/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 682310] Re: Copy to clipboard does not work
Should my humble opinion count anything, I think that (at the moment) the proper package for assigning this bug is openjdk-6-jre. The problem is clearly broader than GeoGebra, since GeoGebra just relies in OpenJDK libraries to do copy and paste. Probably someone from OpenJDK and who is confident with how copy and paste works should help here. [Bug 682310] Re: Copy to clipboard does not work
Hi. I can more or less confirm your issues in Debian sid: what I can observe is the following. * Copying the view as an image works with GIMP, but not with LibreOffice, as you say. * But copying a text works with LibreOffice: for example, go to the Export as synamic worksheet (HTML) (or whatever is called in English) and export the worksheet to HTML in the clipboard. Then copying to LibreOffice works. These facts lead me to thinking that for some reason LibreOffice doesn't understand the image format exported by GeoGebra in the clipboard. I doubt this depends on GeoGebra, it seems more likely that it's LibreOffice's or Java's fault, but I don't know how these things work. I'll try to replicate it independently of GeoGebra. [Bug 682310] Re: Copy to clipboard does not work
Here you are a few new discoveries. With the xclip program you can obtain the content of the clipboard. You use it this way: * To know which content types are available in the clipboard: xclip -selection c -o -t TARGETS * To actually get the content for a given content type: replace TARGETS with the content type If I copy the GeoGebra view in the clipboard I have: $ xclip -selection c -o -t TARGETS image/jpeg image/png image/x-png image/x-raw image/x-portable-pixmap image/x-gif image/gif PNG JFIF $ xclip -selection c -o -t image/png | file - /dev/stdin: PNG image data, 1168 x 898, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced Then, pasting in LibreOffice doesn't work, but in GIMP does. Then I paste in GIMP and copy again from GIMP, getting: $ xclip -selection c -o -t TARGETS TIMESTAMP TARGETS MULTIPLE SAVE_TARGETS image/png image/x-icon image/x-ico image/x-win-bitmap image/bmp image/x-bmp image/x-MS-bmp image/tiff image/jpeg Than pasting in LibreOffice works. I don't know whether the TARGETS difference is significat or the problem is another. Anyway, I'm quite sure it isn't GeoGebra's fault. ASAP I'll write a program to prove this. [Bug 682310] Re: Copy to clipboard does not work
Here you are, the same problem without GeoGebra. Just compile and execute the attached program ClipboardTest.java. While the program is running, try to the same things as before; you should obtain the vary same behaviour. GIMP is able to paste, but LibreOffice is not. $ javac ClipboardTest.java $ java ClipboardTest (hit Ctrl-C to stop the test program) I don't know whether this is OpenJDK or LibreOffice's fault, so I'm not sure how to handle this bug ticket. BTW, for reference: $ javac -version javac 1.7.0_03 $ java -version java version 1.7.0_03 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.1.1) (7~u3-2.1.1-1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) Apparently with OpenJDK 1.6 there is another problem: xclip with TARGETS only decodes a few strange bytes, that mean nothing to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682310 Title: Copy to clipboard does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geogebra/+bug/682310/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This new fail is due to libfreehep-graphicsio-emf-java, which misses a few files in Ubuntu. [Bug 108654] Re: [needs-packaging] geogebra
Hi. I think that upstream developers were mainly worried by the fact that there were many slightly different versions of GeoGebra and users were confused by that. Anyway, now I'm in contact with upstream and discuss with them nearly anything I do with the package. This is also useful for me, because I receive help by the people that know the code at best. Moreover, they want that I publish on the forum the packages I upload, so that their beta testers can test the package as well. I just uploaded to Debian the last upstream version and will continue to work on it in the next few days (I'll be out of town from July 25th to 31st, without any Internet access). Some things are still missing (the thumbnailer for GNOME, for example) and there could be some bugs. Matthias, it would be really nice if you could ask the sync also for the next versions of the package. Do you have any preference between syncing each version or doing one big sync at the end? Keep in mind that first former option would permit more testing by people that test maverick, but I don't know the standard procedures in Ubuntu, so the decision it's up to you. Last question: could you explain me why geogebra is here[1] but not here[2]? [Bug 108654] Re: [needs-packaging] geogebra
Hi. I'm the maintainer for the Debian geogebra package. The Debian package in unstable still needs some minor fixes, but it's nearly to ready. Unfortunately, upstream isn't very happy about the fact that a package is available outside of their repositories. I'm trying to convince them that an official Debian or Ubuntu package cannot do other than attracting more users, make their live easier and have more testers. Stay tuned! I'm not totally sure of how the Debian-to-Ubuntu synchronization works. If someone on the Ubuntu side is interested in doing it, he may be also interested in watching out for new versions coming out next days, as I think I'll introduce some changes and fixes. [Bug 108654] Re: [needs-packaging] geogebra
No, it is a different one, with full source available and patched to be compliant with Debian and Ubuntu quality standards. -- [needs-packaging] geogebra https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108654 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 108654] Re: [needs-packaging] geogebra
I'm quite sure some dependencies are missing in lucid (but all the dependencies are available in maverick). All the links regarding the Debian package (incuding .dsc, .deb, history, ...) can be found searching geogebra on packages.debian.org and browsing from there. -- [needs-packaging] geogebra https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108654 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
