Re: [Bug 1246203] Re: Mouse pointer does not appear

2014-01-13 Thread Gorgonilla
The bug is still there... I'm going to try the daily live cd image as soon
as I get new batteries for my bluetooth mouse and give a feedback.

2014/1/10 Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com

Gorgonilla, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
 /daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
 would not be helpful.

 Thank you for your understanding.

Public bug reported:

In some applications like for example software updates and winetricks

phyton3 based applications. Also resizing of the window is not possible.

[Bug 1246203] [NEW] Mouse point does not appear

2013-10-30 Thread Gorgonilla
Public bug reported:

It's a weird thing: I have an Apple magic mouse connected via bluetooth to my
Dell XPS 13 laptop. When gnome shell starts, the mouse pointer is is not shown
on the screen... however if a move the mouse, the pointer it is still not shown
but it actually moves... if fact if I keep moving the mouse towards NW (that is
where the top left corner of the screen is) the gnome shell overview mode is
activated.
In order to make my mouse pointer visible, I have to touch the touchpad. From
that moment on, the mouse pointer will be visible.
It's a minor thing but it can be annoying especially if you disable the
touchpad.

After some discussion with Kamal Mostafa (kamalmostafa), we've agreed that this

It is a kernel bug with some intel based laptops (not only Dell) in UEFI mode.
Some patches are currenlty being tested...

[Bug 1243539] Re: Black screen on Dell XPS 13 (L322X) with Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 x64 live media

2013-10-25 Thread Gorgonilla
...as additional information, I booted with a live media (Ubuntu 13.10 x64
Gnome edition) and I have connected an external monitor (screen mirroring).
The interesting thing is that if I press fn f4/f5 keys, the hud indicator (that
is also displayed on the external monitor) shows me brightness icon and the bar
going left and right but nothing happens on the laptop screen.
Also I tried with:
cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness
that initially gives me 4845 and then values change while pressing the fn keys
and repeating the above command.
So it seems that device is recognized by the system but changes have no effect
on the physical device.

Also echo 1000 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness has no
effect.

...again additional info: if I boot the live media in legacy mode, the screen
brigthness works!
My problem now is that I need (for work reasons) to keeo a dual boot with

WHen I did my dual boot in Raring, I installed ubuntu in UEFI mode and used

[Bug 1243539] [NEW] Black screen on Dell XPS 13 (L322X) with Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 x64 live media

2013-10-23 Thread Gorgonilla
Public bug reported:

I've booted from a live USB media of Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 on my Dell XPS 13
(L322X) and the laptop screen is just black. Nothin happens if I press the fn
key to adjust brightness.
I've connected an external monitor and the desktop is there, up and running
(I'm using that session to report this bug right now).
On the same laptop, by upgrading from Raring (and staying with kernel 3.8) the
laptop screen and brigthness adjustment works fine.

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-05-17 Thread Gorgonilla
Got it. It works, thanks!

I'm wondering how this goes with normal users... I mean, the sputnik ppa says
that for raring the ppa it is not required as the path is in merged to main.
But this is not actually true as it is in raring-proposed (that is not enabled
by default).
So the problem is that it it doesn't flow into main, sooner or later the patch
might also disappear from raring-proposed or from next Ubuntu 13.10.

Also Dell seems having a partnership with Canonical and is selling
Ubuntu pre installed pc/laptops as well and without this patch, it makes
the laptop unusable.

So, IMHO, we should ask Canonical to get this path into main. Don't you
think so?

[Bug 830926] [NEW] Evolution can't load Google calendar anymore

2011-08-22 Thread Gorgonilla
Public bug reported:

I have a Google calendar entry in my calendars. When I click it I get
the following error:

Error loading calendar

It was working until July then it stopped working.
I've tried removing and recreating it (and in the creation form it correctly
retrieves the calendar list) but when then I click on it I still get the above
error.

[Bug 803748] [NEW] Always error message while sending a mail

2011-06-30 Thread Gorgonilla
Public bug reported:

It cames with a fresh installation of ubuntu natty 64bit.
Fresh evolution profile.
Every time I send an email I get the following error message:

Error while Sending message.

Failed to append to
maildir:/home/lviggiani/.local/share/evolution/mail/local;need-summary-check=no#Sent:
 Cannot get folder '/home/lviggiani/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/Sent':
not a maildir directory.
Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead.

BTW the mail is actually sent and saved in Sent evolution folder.
However this error is annoying as you always have to check whether you
have this (fake) error or something else.

Same issue here with nVidia GeForce 8400M. I'm using nVidia dirver 270.41.06 on

I've read that someone seems to have fixed it by using nvidia-173 but to me is

Re: [Bug 659699] Re: Evolution crashes while dragging an email attachment to an appointment in the calendar

2010-10-13 Thread Gorgonilla
Dear Pedro,
just to make sure I'm doing right:

I do enable apport
Restart
Re create the bug in evolution
Click on Report bug from evolution menu
Fill in the informations etc...

Then, will the .crash file be added automatically, or do I have to search
into /var/crash folder and attach the .crash file manually?

2010/10/13 Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the
crash report you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash
in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to
 report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will

[Bug 659695] Re: emails are not automatically marked as read after opening them

2010-10-13 Thread Gorgonilla
I'm using POP.
I've created a new account on Ubuntu and set up the email for him. It works.
So I discovered what the problem is: in my real account, while migrating to
Maverick, the email setting saying automatically mark message as read after
1,5 seconds was lost. So I had to re-enable it and now it works.
I'm sure it was set before upgrading, so perhaps there is bug in the upgrade
procedure.
