[Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.
I have this exact same problem too. Upgraded from 16.04 (which ran just fine) to 18.04, now get a 30 second delay before boot, with this "failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning Gave up waiting for suspend/resume" error. Not sure what help I can be at this point, but should anybody think they could do with additional data in this regard, give me a shout. I have logged a question about the problem here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1097013/error-on-boot-failed-to-connect-to-lvmetad-after-18-04-install -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768230 Title: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. [Bug 466340] [NEW] Bootup fails after upgrading to 9.1 from 9.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 I was using Ubuntu 9.04 perfectly. This afternoon I noticed a promp (in Update Manager) to upgrade to the anticipated version of Ubuntu 9.10. I did so, after which the machine now refuses to boot successfully. It gets as far as a rapidly flickering prompt asking me to login, however keyboard response is too erratic at this point to correctly enter the password. If I restart the machine and hit esc (during bootup) I am then given the option of either booting up in 2.6.28-14 Generic or 2.6.28-16 Generic. If I opt for the -16 option, the machine appears to boot OK after some hesitation. In short my machine no longer boots properly and I have no idea how to fix this issue. I have searched the net but to no avail. [Bug 466340] Re: Bootup fails after upgrading to 9.1 from 9.04
Hi chaps, my machine appears to have corrected itself (little thanks to me). yesterday evening I tried various options and attempted a (normal) re- boot several times without success. However the last thing I tried (after forcing the machine to boot using the method described earlier) I ran the Hardware Drivers option found under Administration. Unlike the earlier version of Ubuntu (9.04) it recognised that I had a Nvidia graphics chipset (ION mini-ITX motherboard with integrated Geforce 9400M graphics) and recommended installing the relevant driver for enabling 3D acceleration. I did so and, after some hesitation in the boot-up immediately thereafter, the machine now runs (and boots up!!) just fine. Again I am very impressed with the work your community has done on Ubuntu Linux. I am a recent Windows convert and, given my scant knowledge of Linux, this is the first real hiccup I have had with what is otherwise an outstanding operating system. Thanks again for your massive contribution.
