[Bug 608907]

2011-11-24 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I would also like to help with anything that's possible.

I would even spend a decent amount of money if this can help to resolve the
issue quicker. If someone wants to tackle this task as freelancer, feel free
to contact me and we will discuss the details then.

 --- Comment #52 from Vietor Davis vie...@zettabytestorage.com 2010-10-28
15:43:36 PDT ---
I'm experiencing the same issue on a new U160-0894 (i5-470UM, working
Turbo).
I've tried current (Thu Oct 28 15:22:13 PDT 2010) versions of the
 fixes/next/staging branches to no effect.

 To be clear:
Backlight is on, no output appears once the i915 driver loads.
 External monitor works fine.
i915.modeset=0 'works', but of course the intel driver then cannot load
later.
No other framebuffer driver is compiled in and dmesg says: fbcon:
inteldrmfb
 (fb0) is primary device

In my dmesg I'm also seeing: [drm:intel_panel_get_max_backlight] *ERROR*
 fixme: max PWM is zero.

Which I did not see in either of the posted dmesg outputs. However the
backlight appears to be fine, and even responds to the Fn+Up/Down controls
while the screen is blank (more or less bleed-through), so probably not
useful.

Please let me know what I can do to help.

[Bug 689072] Re: X Crashes randomly with certain applications

2011-01-24 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I have exactly the same issue. The crashes only occur while actively
using the computer. I usually have Amarok, Kopete, Firefox running when
this happens.

After the crash I see TTY1 but Amarok keeps playing until I stop/restart
KDM.

I already used the xorg-edgers ppa to see if this helps, but it doesn't.
I downgraded again and the issue is still occuring a few times each day.

I've attached the Xorg.0.log from after a crash. I use the official ATI
catalyst fglrx driver from AMD's webpage with two graphiccards and four
screens.

fglrx version 8.801
Amarok: 2.3.2
Kubuntu 10.10

I have following ppa's enabled, but no others:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main

Re: [Bug 554569] Re: [lucid] Blank screen with KMS on Thinkpad X201 with Arrandale (i915)

2010-08-20 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I've updated my Lucid Installation to the latest Maverick alpha and
downloaded the newest packages. This *does not* help for me. The boot
splash shows up after grub but the screen still goes blank after a
fraction of a second.

I have a Lenovo U160 with Core i7 920.

2010/8/20 Cima 554...@bugs.launchpad.net:
On my machine I don't really want to test an alpha release of a kernel,
but I gave a try to #127. It doesn't boot on my laptop (core i5 540),
but I think that's not connected with graphics but something else.
Anyway, the good thing is that I can see the normal splash screen, so
the screen doesn't go blank after grub. There is hope...

 Bug description:
 Hi all,
On my new Thinkpad X201 with Core i5 and integrated Arrandale graphics with
lucid i get a blank screen (no backlight) as soon as the i915 kicks in during
boottime. Booting continues, i can hear the loginsound, but the display stays
dark. External screen shows a picture, although with wrong resolution.
Booting with the i915.modeset=0 results in working graphics, but only X with
vesa. I tried several kernel-versions, including karmic livecd and the newest
daily build from the kernel mainline ppa, both 2.6.33 and 2.6.34, all to no
avail. The only kernel that works is from this ppa
 (https://launchpad.net/~csurbhi/+archive/karmic-stable) from bug #515246, but
I couldn't isolate why. This could be a duplicate of that bug, but it has
been marked fixed, but still remains with me.
The problem seems to be that the i915 cannot initialize the internal display
 properly. Following snip from syslog:

[Bug 614857] [NEW] Lenovo U160 network doesn't work after suspend/hibernate

2010-08-07 Thread Gregor Müllegger
Public bug reported:

The network worked fine (LAN out-of-the-box, wireless after installing
drivers with jockey-kde) after installation and was reliable. But since
the notebook suspended the first time network is broken.

Neither LAN nor wireless is working any more - even after a reboot.
I tried to execute the following commands:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart
sudo pkill -f NetworkManager sudo NetworkManager
pkill -f knetworkmanager knetworkmanager

Before this happened dmesg | grep Ethernet outputted a line with the Atheros
Ethernet adapter. After suspending dmesg | grep Ethernet outputs nothing
about this adapter anymore.
knetworkmanager shows after right-clicking only one deactivated line with
networkmanagement disabled (original german text: Netzwerkverwaltung
deaktiviert)

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 64bit desktop flavor.

[Bug 148454] Re: console-kit-daemon spawns too many threads

2010-03-06 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I totally agree on syntag's post. I have from time to time very bad
performance inpacts that are caused by consolekit. It eats up many CPU
cycles and slows down the whole system remarkably. RAM is not an issue
since my system is not swaping while this happens. After I pkill -9
all the processes the system gets immediatly much more responsive.

I assume that its not because of my hardware is being slow. I have a
Intel i920 with four physical cores. As mentioned above, the slowdown is
not always the case. It happens only from time to time.

[Bug 191606] Re: [upstream] Dark Background, Light Foreground Themes Disable Cell BG Colors

2010-02-12 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I can confirm that this bug still exists in Kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.4 with
OpenOffice 3.1.1 from standard ubuntu archives.
It only appears when I have a dark colorscheme in use. It affects Calc and
Impress (displaying on screen is wrong, but on PDF generation it works as
expected).

I can set a background in Writer which shows up correctly on screen -
but the default settings for background and foreground is the same as
with system settings (which is a bit misleading ... why shall the page
show up with black background when I actually want to print on white
paper?).

[Bug 305827] [NEW] kernel log file to big, no space left on root partition

2008-12-06 Thread Gregor Müllegger
Public bug reported:

There seems to be a bug, in one of the programs that write its log to
the kernel log files.

The log files are blown up in a few hours with Gigabytes of log messages,
wasting all space on the root partition.
Affected are the files /var/log/messages, /var/log/kern.log and
/var/log/syslog. Every single file has a size of 2.8 GB!

As you can see in the attached file (which is an excerpt of the last
100'000 lines in my /var/log/messages file) there are two errors that
are logged over and over again. Look out for the two gaps in the log
file where i have made a little note about how often the error was
repeatedly logged.

[Bug 296461] Re: [intrepid] X Server crashes randomly while doing some configuration tasks in KDE

2008-12-02 Thread Gregor Müllegger
if i try to switch of compositing it seems to be more stable while
working. But if i try to log in again (for example on the next day) i

delete the kwinrc file) to be able to log into KDE again.

[Bug 296461] Re: [intrepid] X Server crashes randomly while doing some configuration tasks in KDE

2008-11-16 Thread Gregor Müllegger
** Description changed:

The X Server (i think it's the x server that crashes) crashes at random
times while im working with KDE. When the session crashes, the screen
become black and the user login screen from kdm appears (like when i'm
  pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspace).

It occurs mostly when i'm editing configurations of KDE. Sometimes when
i'm in the Wallpaper-config dialog, sometimes when i'm locking the
desktop widgets. Sometimes when i'm adjusting something in the
systemsettings. The last time it crashed i tried to start konsole from
within the ALT-F2 dialog. But all in all it occurs very often but not
in a reproducable manner. It always occured in the same moment i was
clicking on something (not only ok buttons, also the select a file
  button in the wallpaper-config dialog).

+ I think it is caused by the kwin window manager since the crashes
+ doesn't occur anymore while using the openbox wm with KDE.
+
I'm using a Intrepid installation with KDE 4.1.3 (had already the
problem with 4.1.2) with NVidia graphics and activated desktopeffects
  (compositing? the transparent stuff etc).

[Bug 295556] [NEW] Kopete doesn't show contact names in contactlist

2008-11-08 Thread Gregor Müllegger
Public bug reported:

Kopete's contactlist doesn't show the contactnames anymore. The names are still
stored and you can rename contacts by pressing F2, but they don't show up in
the contactlist.
The bug is not there since installing kopete. It just occured up from one day
to anathor and annoys me since four days.

See the attachment for a screenshot.

I'm using Kopete 0.60.3 with KDE 4.1.3 from the intrepid backports
repository. But the bug was already there with KDE 4.1.2 from intrepid.

[Bug 291434] [NEW] New windows don't get focus

2008-10-31 Thread Gregor Müllegger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Yesterday i installed the new kubuntu intrepid release. But i have a
problem with the focus' of windows.

If i open the K-Menu in the bottom left corner and open e.g. dolphin,
the currently active window will remain the same and dolphin is hidden
behind that active window. But i want that newly created windows get the
focus.

I looked through all config options in KDE but didn't found anything
that could solve the problem.

[Bug 247203] [NEW] Firefox rarely chrashes while creating a Bookmarkfolder

2008-07-10 Thread Gregor Müllegger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Sometimes when i try to create a new folder in the bookmark-sidebar
firefox crashes instantly without any error messages. I found no way to
reproduce this bug, but it happens twice to me.

Firefox crashes in the moment i click Create (Hinzufügen in the
german translation i use). I used the following commands before
experiencing the crash: right clicking in the bookmarks sidebar,
selecting create new folder, entering the name of the new folder,
pressing return to save the new folder.

I'm using Kubuntu, lsb_release -rd outputs:

[Bug 140793] Re: Starting applications as a different non-root user (kdesu -u) does not work after upgrade to Gutsy

2007-10-01 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I found for me the following solution:

There is only a symbolic link from /usr/bin/kdesu - /usr/bin/kdesudo
though you can use the following two commands to use kdesu as expected:

sudo rm /usr/bin/kdesu # removing the symbolic link
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/kdesu.distrib /usr/bin/kdesu # creating new symbolic link

So you can use kdesu AND kdesudo as you expect it.

I also confirm this. Reinstalled my system today with the Gutsy Beta.

I tried to solve this problem by using kdesu instead of kdesudo but i
cannot find it in the repository anymore.
