The problem did not disappear for me. It even worsened with the update maverick - natty. Kontact and other windows started to misbehave and crash twice. I can confirm the bug with kde4.2.1 as provided by deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main in /etc/apt/sources.list. I reacently upgraded for 8.04 to 8.10. There are at least theses 2 bug reports, which seem to be related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262748 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268951 Temporary workaround (see link in comment 3 and 4): End kmail (or whatever is supposed to ask for the passphrase) and from a console: $ eval $(gpg-agent --daemon) $ kmail Permanent Workaround (untested): Put $(gpg-agent --daemon) into /.kde/env/gpgagent.sh In my humble opinion, all the bug reports, including this one, are assigned to the wrong packages (kdepim, gnupg, enigmail). As nobody with another desktop environment than KDE seems to have a problem (??), some KDE-package (kdebase* or kdelibs*) might be more appropriate. As the issue seems to be unsolved for more than 3 months and the bug renders the system unusable for sending signed and reading encrypted mails for a 'normal' user, being a regression from 8.04, one might consider to change the importance of the bug. [Bug 157050] Re: octave2.9-forge doesn't work in Gutsy!
It seems clear from the above that the provided octave2.9-forge package is built for a different API version then octave2.9, i.e. 22 instead of 24. My solution for gutsy works OK, so far: 1. Add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list deb-src http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main multiverse universe 2. Type in a shell the following 3 lines cd /usr/src sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get source -b octave2.9-forge octave2.9-forge The last line starts the build of the package and generated the file mentioned below. I had to install some build dependencies before it could start. It took 20 minutes on my PC. 3. Type in a shell the following line to install (or rather upgrade) the octave2.9-forge package: sudo dpkg -i octave2.9-forge_2006.07.09+dfsg1-8_i386.deb 4. Add the following 2 lines into /etc/octave2.9.conf or ~/.octaverc: addpath (genpath (/usr/lib/octave/site/oct/api-v24/i486-pc-linux-gnu/octave2.9-forge), -begin); addpath (genpath (/usr/share/octave/site), -begin); With this, only 6 warning messages (warning: autoload: `' is not an absolute file name) appeared instead of over 100. I tried imread and imwrite and both worked fine. I hope this will be fixed for hardy as octave2.9-forge does not work in gutsy and might be considered a critical bug. -- octave2.9-forge doesn't work in Gutsy! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157050 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The system worked fine with the old feisty kernel. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- source-2.6.22/+bug/141435 reported similar problems. Removing the not needed evms package solved the problem. I do not know why I had it on my system in the first place. # uname -a Linux gue710 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Wed Oct 10 05:26:36 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evms broke the upgrade from feisty to gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151978 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83748] Re: USB khubd oopsing when attaching usb-storage device
I can confirm the bug and the workaround (thanks to on rbiscosi) on Linux gue704 2.6.20-16-386 #2 Thu Jun 7 20:16:13 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux I connected my external Freecom Classic HD twice: 1. [Bug 120389] (feisty) cdrom missing since 2.6.20-16 on 82801BA IDE U100 (ICH2) Intel chipset
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 With kernel 2.6.17-11 (feisty works fine with it) the cdrom is automounting OK. On 2.6.20-16: # mount /media/cdrom/ mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb, missing codepage or other error (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
