[Bug 1950859] Re: Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem

2021-12-07 Thread Gui Badoux
Problem solved!
Apparently the problem came from Windows OS: impossible to fully replace
Windows by Ubuntu.
So I decided to go for a dual boot. I reinstalled Windows 7 on the Vaio. Then I
installed Ubuntu as a second OS. I resized the disk so as to attribute a
minimum of space to Windows (60Gb) and a maximum (190Gb) to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1950859] Re: Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem

2021-11-15 Thread Gui Badoux
Hi Steve,
The version is Lubuntu 15.4. When I tried to upgrade this OS, a message
appeared saying "to old for upgrade. Install the version 15.10". So I will
download Lubuntu 15.10 and give a try.
"Nvidia pilot" means "Nvidia driver", yes indeed.
I took some pictures of the error messages appearing during the installation.
The only working installation was the Lubuntu 15.4. To get there, I erased the
four SSD disks (after removing the RAID0 from the BIOS). Then I formatted the
SSD disk0 with the option "bootable" activated.
Each other installation (like the Ubuntu 20.04) done on top of this first
installation failed. I tried the two options: "install aside of the previous
OS" and "Replace previous OS".

[Bug 1950859] [NEW] Ubuntu installation failure - Vaio Nvidia and RAID connected to the problem

2021-11-13 Thread Gui Badoux
Public bug reported:

At first, impossible to install Lubuntu 15 on a Sony Vaio PCG-3M.
By suppressing the RAID0 of 4 SSD 64Gb, I could install on the disk0. But still
very unstable system.
Then by acting on the TPM in the BIOS, a first installation was done. The TPM
actions where first a CLEAR, then a ENABLED.
In the internet comments, some people were speaking about the Nvidia processor.
So I installed the Nvidia pilot (a Nvidia native pilot, but approved by Ubuntu)
and finally, a first installation of Lubuntu 15 was done.
But It's impossible to install something better, like Ubuntu 20 for example.
The installation keeps crashing at the end.
For unknown raisons, the wifi pilot was lost, and impossible to restore it.
