I tried the same thing on my Maverick system, using the tex-code from the webside, and then issuing $ pdflatex --shell-escape foo.tex and it worked like a charm. I have tested on a freshly updated Lucid laptop. Closing the lid makes the machine suspend, and subsequently opening the lid, the machine resumes from suspend and no password has to be typed. Bug confirmed for Lucid here as well. kdm workaround works. I upgraded to Lucid Lynx to see if it helped as it has for others here. It did not, it made things worse. I tried switching over to wicd (it helped on 9.10), but even that is hopeless now. I have 10 seconds of connectivity before I loose the connection for a minute or two. I installed kubuntu-desktop, and then using kdm, I do not have the same issues, which should mean this is not a bug in the xorg-server/nvidia- driver.
