[Bug 1782806] Re: Typo in apache2-maintscript-helper causes MPM check to misfire

2018-11-24 Thread Hal Deadman
I was getting this error trying to install the libapache2-mod-php7.2 on
bionic using the 3.4.0 puppetlabs apache puppet module. After I added
the ubuntu test repo and did an update to the latest apache2 (2.4.29),
the installation via puppet was successful.

Re: [Bug 1447705] Re: Installation crashes in the same place each time

2015-05-05 Thread Hal Hagan
Hi, Brian - you can close/cancel this - I was able to categorically prove
that I had some failed memory sticks in my motherboard.

Those have been replaced, it's working fine now and installation went
perfectly.

I don't want you on a wild goose chase when it was a hardware problem.

Sorry for the misdirection.

Re: [Bug 1447705] Re: Installation crashes in the same place each time

2015-04-23 Thread Hal Hagan
Hi - I think I had some hardware problems that may have precipitated this.
I ran the memory checker just to be thorough, and it seems there were
problems in one memory stick (in what had been a dead stable system the
last time I used it about 3 weeks ago).

Rather than asking you to chase this down (which may not at all be a
program problem), I have replaced each stick of memory, re-run the memory
checker, and am retrying the installation (which so far is going much
further, and much more successfully).

My apologies for crying wolf without proper diligence.
As I said, this machine ran fine up until very recently, so I'm unsure what
has caused those memory sticks to go wonky.

Cheers - Hal

[Bug 1242036] Re: Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 failed

2013-10-22 Thread HAL 9000
Just fixed it myself: As it turns out, the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package
was pinned to a specific version - though I don't know how that happened, I
don't remember doing it. Anyway, I removed the hold, and the problem
disappeared.
Please just ignore this bug report.

[Bug 1242036] [NEW] Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 failed

2013-10-19 Thread HAL 9000
Public bug reported:

While trying to upgrade to 13.10, the update app fails, stating that an
unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. /var/log
/dist-upgrade/apt.log shows hundreds of broken packages. Note that I am
using third-party packages, but I have been using the same packages and
PPAs for years, and release upgrades have always worked.

I got this after receiving a file in empathy as well (via Jabber).
However, it wasn't a .crash file. (It was a PDF if that matters)

[Bug 1160638] Re: usb printer works intermittently after upgrade to Precise

2013-04-09 Thread Hal Thorne
Thanks Tim...it took me a while to reconfigure samba in Raring.
However, in the end I found that my problem was corrected by the printer
debugging information you referenced.

The two printers I was having trouble with were Canon models ImageClass
MF4150 and Pixma iP6000D. After testing, my conclusions are as
follows:

MF4150 requires usb-no-reattach=true, but does not require usb-unidir-
default=true

iP6000D requires usb-unidir-default=true, but does not require usb-no-
reattach=true

Blacklisting the usblp kernel module does not appear to be necessary for
either of these printers.

You may wish to consider updating the quirks list for these devices.
MF4150 ID 04a9:26a3
iP6000DID 04a9:1095

The above conclusions were verified in both Precise and Raring.

Thank you sincerely for your help.

[Bug 1160638] [NEW] usb printer works intermittently after upgrade to Precise

2013-03-26 Thread Hal Thorne
Public bug reported:

I have a Canon MF4150 mono laser printer...was in use on Oneric with no
problems. Testing Precise (12.04) on another machine before cutting
over found printing problems with this printer. Tried to research the
issue but have not found a fix.

When first powered up, the printer works fine initially. After a few
jobs, it stops working. It appears that after the last successful job,
the printer is left in a hung state...visible evidence is the
Processing Data indicator on the printer remains on...forever. In
normal operation, this indicator goes off immediately after the last
page of the job is completed. Once in thsi state, the printer never
prints again until power is cycled.

However, while in this state, Cups still appears to send print jobs, but
nothing actually prints. The cups log indicates that cups is sending
data to the printer in a sequence of transfers (8192 bytes each). So
cups apparently thinks the printer is accepting the job. I've compared
the log sequence for jobs that print and jobs that don't and I can find
no difference in the information reported in the cups log (at full debug
level logging).

The problem is unlikely to be related to drivers since the printer is
operating in raw mode (the machine is a samba server for Windows
printing clients).

Have tried uni-directional constraint suggested in various places. This
printer does not work at all if this option is applied.

I have tried blacklisting the usblp module. This does not solver the
problem.

Since it does not happen every time, it seems related to the sequence or
timing of usb transactions. Were there significant changes in usb
behavior that would have affected raw printer handling between Oneric
and Precise?

Need to move forward from Oneric...printer testing is my last issue.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Recently-installed Ubuntu 12.04 system with all the latest updates.

  - Expected -

This issue relates to following product:

[Bug 1067079] WifiSyslog.txt

2012-10-18 Thread Hal
apport information

** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067079/+attachment/3403340/+files/WifiSyslog.txt

** Description changed:

Recently-installed Ubuntu 12.04 system with all the latest updates.

  - Expected -

This issue relates to following product:
Bus 002 Device 015: ID 0546:3304 Polaroid Corp. a500 Digital Camera
HEDCAM HD WIDE Waterproof Wearable Camcorder
  http://www.hedcamz.com/cameras/hedcam/hedcam-wide

When this device is connected via USB, Ubuntu should automatically
recognise it and, ideally, automatically mount the removable MicroSD
storage media (4GB). This allows the user to manage the videos created
  using the device.

  - Results -
Communication with the device is not successful, and the following errors are
logged to /var/log/syslog.

[Bug 1067079] Re: 0546:3304 Unable to connect Hedcamz HEDCAM HD video cameras via USB

2012-10-18 Thread Hal
Christopher, would you mind explaining why this would be necessary?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1067079/comments/55

Anyway, I am afraid that I am not able to use my machine's current
installation for testing, for the reasons explained earlier. I hope that
the apport submission that I have made using Quantal will be adequate.

Thanks

I am more than happy to provide as much information as you need, but
please bear in mind that this is not a development machine. It's crucial
that the integrity of the system is not corrupted in any way, as I rely
on it for my work.

With this in mind, how would you like me to precede?

[Bug 1067079] Re: 0546:3304 Unable to connect Hedcamz HEDCAM HD video cameras via USB

2012-10-16 Thread Hal
Christopher,

I have received an email from the director of Hedcams. Is there anything
a company like that can do to help with an issue like this, in order to
expedite its resolution, or is it typically handled entirely by the
developer team?

Thanks

[Bug 1067079] Re: 0546:3304 Unable to connect Hedcamz HEDCAM HD video cameras via USB

2012-10-16 Thread Hal
Christopher, I am really sorry, but I still don't understand which
kernel you want me to try with Precise. Note that I am currently running
the latest general release, 3.2.0-32-generic.

[Bug 1067079] Re: Unable to connect Hedcamz HEDCAM HD video cameras via USB

2012-10-16 Thread Hal
As requested, here is the output from lsusb when the HEDCAM camera has
been attached. Note that I was unable to remove my wireless mouse and
keyboard (Device 003).

lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:009d Microsoft Corp. Wireless Optical Desktop 3.0
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 18e3:9106 Fitipower Integrated Technology Inc
Bus 002 Device 015: ID 0546:3304 Polaroid Corp. a500 Digital Camera

When the HEDCAM camera is physically removed, Device 015 does not appear
in the lsusb output:

lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:009d Microsoft Corp. Wireless Optical Desktop 3.0
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 18e3:9106 Fitipower Integrated Technology Inc

Thus, Device 015 Polaroid Corp. a500 Digital Camera seems to be the
HEDCAM camera.

Out of interest, do you know what Fitipower Integrated Technology Inc
relates to? Googling this returns details about a webcam, but I don't
have a webcam, and I don't believe there is one integrated with my
computer as standard.

My system is a Dell Studio XPS 8100. Here is the support site for it,
which includes links to the documentation. No integrated camera is
mentioned.
